Good books?

Everyone has pretty much discussed what they are/have been reading already. ;)
IMHO I think we all need to be reading the same book in order to generate some great discussions.
I bet if we google 'how to start a book club' we'll find lots of outlines, think?

I'm not much of a book reader unless it really sounds good or highly recommended
by others. But last year I read a book called "The First Council" sorry I can't
remember who the author was but it took place in the white house. Several
drivers at work had read it and it sort of made the rounds which is why I read it
too. It was a suspense novel, and if there was a movie based on it I would really
like to see it.

Lenora,
I would know how to do it, but don't have the time. But you're right and that's exactly what I asked for - someone who's willing to be the organizer to pick the books, etc -
Ava,
That's why not everyone would participate every month - as I'm sure some books will "grab" the attn of different people. But I think we'd all be checking to see what the book is. Now, me, I don't buy books anymore, but if I could get it at the local library, I'd probably do so.

Again - anyone want to commit to take this on???

Sorry Beth, I misread your post, substituted an "or" for the "and", my mistake! :(

Diana,
I'm more than willing to start a room for books, reading, etc - just thought the book club would be a good idea also. But maybe we should take the baby steps first. I'll figure out where I want to put that room- and get it added this week.

Well I can't commit long term, but I would be willing to lead a discussion on Suze Orman's "Women & Money" if anyone is interested. She gave it away free on the Oprah show a few weeks ago, some of you may have it. Let me know if you are interested.

Your copy is legitimate, but I wouldn't post that you're willing to email it - that's against the terms you agreed to when you downloaded it :) Not sure why, since she gave it for free, but I got it also, and it said you can't give it to others. I wouldn't post otherwise on a public board. (Just to be safe.)

Lori, I have a book for you if you haven't read it yet. "Here, There Be Dragons" by James A. Owen. Olivia and I just got done reading it and it was quite enjoyable. Also, don't know ifyou have read any of the Deltora books...Tales of, Quest. They have been good ones too.

Beth, what about if we had a volunteer each month to keep the book club going? I think I would be willing to do it occasionally, but know that I couldn't keep up with it all the time. That is, if the ladies want a more typical book club. If not, then just the listings of books read and a synopsis would work too. Maybe list them by title and author?

I would appreciate a listing and synopsis with title and author. I love the idea of a book club, but I'll have to rely on libraries, and don't want to take a chance the 'featured' book is not available.

OK, here's what I think we'll start with - I'm going to make a "Book Review/Book Talk" room - where people can start threads about books they read and liked (or disliked) and why- and we can discuss them in their threads.

Now, we can also do a not formal book club type thing by starting a thread - say Paulette will take September and in the next week, give us a book to read - then we don't discuss that book in the thread until a specified date - say the first of Sept. Paulette, in choosing the book, can lead the discussion? And while we are discussing that one, someone else can select another book for us to read in Sept to discuss in Oct?

How does this sound? And, of course, keep up anytime with giving reviews, recommended or not-recommended books?

Informal, but I think something we can try out and come in and out of as we can - and with a month to find/read the book, maybe more will be able to be part of it?

Comments everyone, before I start this?
