I’ve been a little bit MIA since the end of April, reading and posting when I could. Lots has been going on and I can finally take a rest and fill you, my RV friends with the happenings.
As you may remember, the jerk boss was continuing to make my life h-e-(double hockey sticks) and I was also starting to do some things to start getting the house ready for possible listing next year. Well, as ‘they’ say, the best laid plans…
After the install of the new roof (thank you insurance) after more damage from yet more tornado winds, I had the house (inside & out) painted. Then decided that the blinds in the front room / dining room area needed to be replaced, so did that too. In the midst of the house chores, the jerk boss just kept making my life more miserable (as well as to other long timers too), so I said, what the heck, let’s put the house on the market this year and see what happens.
Found a realtor, and with her contacts, found someone to install full house carpeting real cheap (not the best carpeting but at ½ the price of carpet alone from Home Depot, I went with it. Carpet installed the next day.
At the same time, BIG rumors going around that work was going to mess with our pension again (they did 10 years ago). It was brought up at March board meeting and tabled until convention board meeting at the end of June. Although pensions are protected (to a point) by government, work could have 1) stopped contributing to it, so whatever was there was the final total, or 2) given us a one-time payout that was pennies on the dollar. There goes 40 years of working at the same place, only to possibly get screwed (pardon the language) on my pension.
All of this was occurring just as I was getting ready for my Spring vacation and meeting up Eileen, up at Rock Cut SP.
Anywhoooo, the first day of showings was the Sunday I left on vacation. 15 showings and 4 offers all at or above listing price! All the contract negotiations were done while camping (big thank you to Eileen for the use of her laptop since mine did not want to connect).
Contract, inspection and appraisal is complete. Just waiting for the final underwriters stuff on the buyers loan. House closing is July 13th.
Oh ~ and did I mention that 2 days before leaving on vacation, I gave my notice?!?!!!!! Well the jerk boss has not said 2 words to me (not even ‘good riddance’) and senior management and my old boss are in charge of transitioning my work to other staff. Funny how for the last 10 years I’ve been telling bosses I need backup, and now I’m training 6 different people for all the work I do. They are scrambling because I am the only person that knows most of the year-end processing. (nyah nyah ) I always joked about retiring at 60 and doing it before year end madness, and here I actually did it!
So the last 5 weeks has been mad downsizings (thank goodness I’m not a pack rat & have no problems throwing or giving things away. Made some $$ on selling some furniture, and the rest is being picked up by charity this coming Thursday. The house is very echo-y at this point. I think Zorro & Punkin are wondering what's going on
I’m not quite hitting the road yet, although thinking about doing the Lake Michigan circle tour for a month or so before the October GTG. I’ll be moving into my Dad’s house. Which will give me a home base for a while (he goes to Florida for 8 months in the winter), while I start driving Mom around looking at retirement communities (with transitional care).
So in a nutshell, as of this week June 16th I’m retired! As of July 13th I’m homeless more or less. I’m exhausted, but in a good way.
Phew! been holding that in for a while. Fingers crossed, saying prayers, etc that the sale goes thru. Then on to the next stage of my life at some point.
