Quiet Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Apr 05, 2017 7:43 am

The calm before the storm today. Winter storm watch takes effect tonight. Wet snow for tomorrow. They keep moving the storm watch border and snow totals east so maybe it will just graze this area. Winters last hurrah. O'Sharon, you better get that dog food today  But I'll send you some better weather by the weekend. 60-70's predicted by Sunday into Monday here.

Babie, good luck on the house sale. Would you get enough from it to buy yourself a truck and look for acgood used trailer like I got, park in a seasonal campground for the summer, then move down to CA and maybe do same? Give you a chance to live out your dream. Maybe you can find a work camping opportunity to make some green and keep your current job for now.

Gues I betrr get moving here. Might get into a little outside work later, garage is a mess from taking the stuff out of my old trailer. Cover is n floor waiting for warmer again, so I can lay it out in drive in the sun to finish drying in a couple spots, before I roll it up and put it away. Lus some other things that need to be put away. So have a nice day everyone.

Good morning all. Supposed to have a fairly nice day here today before the bottom drops out tomorrow. Yes, Sue, I did get the dog food yesterday! Sun was out but it was windy. I didn't realize how windy until I got on the open road! I have an Outback and the wind was really pushing me around. Saw later on the news that it was hitting 38-40 mph! Sure glad I wasn't trying to drive the rv! I would have been looking for a safe place to park for the duration! I texted my friend that I think we should hold off taking our RV's over to Jim tomorrow. Another week or two won't make a difference to either of us.

Barbie, hope the house sells quickly and you can decide what you want to do. Colleen, the photos of the blue bonnets were beautiful. Looked like you had a fun time. Thanks fir taking us along! And Sandi, the visit to San Diego looked like a fun time too! I've been watching a live cam of a giraffe in NY waiting to have her calf. Glad to see some parks interested in conservation instead of just showing them off.

Coffee is done so need to get moving. I think today will be an outside day. I need to get things cleaned up on the back porch, darn leaves are still blowing around! And the dogs them in on their feet or at least pieces of them! Have a good day and travel safe!

Donna, I don't know how anyone can post on here from a phone. I'm doing good to send someone a one sentence message. I'm still saying I need to go to the doctor for my foot but I don't want a shot. There are only so many steps I can make in a day and I was about done by noon yesterday. Harold picked up his mower yesterday and only made a few rounds and the tire was flat again. It was coming off so it couldn't be loaded on the trailer. My son and I got the tire off the mower and Harold went to town with it. My son had a doctor's appointment so he wasn't here to help put the tire back on the mower. I helped Harold put it on and he insisted on getting down on the ground to put the nuts on. He had double knee replacements so is not suppose to be crawling around. He ended up laying on the ground and I still had to put the nuts on. Then the circus started trying to get him up. He had to use a rope on the 4-wheeler and still fell once. He almost fell again getting up the hill. I ask him if he was ever going to listen when someone tells him not to do something. He won't wait for help. When he thinks of something it has to be done right now. Sometimes in the middle of the night I will hear the 4-wheeler start and he is going to the barn for some reason.

We are under a wind advisory later today. My son has to go to Alexandria which is about a 100 miles and he drives too fast in my opinion. Hope he has sense enough to slow down. I want to wash my camper so probably better do it this morning before the wind starts.

Sue, tentatively, I am thinking of getting a used Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V-8 so I can pull a little bigger trailer like your new one. There are very few campgrounds around here (mostly way up north), and none that offer long term stays. I might have found a place for me and Lola to stay this summer here. When I do get a trailer, I might plan to stay in it out in California until I can find a little place to buy there (condo/mobile home). I really want a place of my own there and finally settle down. A little yard would be really nice since I love to work outside with gardens, etc. I will probably get about $175K by the time everything is said and done here, so not a ton of money, especially for California/retirement, but I can make it work. Will probably invest a good portion of it. I need to sit down with a financial planner and figure out what my options are before I do anything.

Today, I will just putter around here doing some little things that I thought of last night. The drone photographer guy should be here soon. My brother was happy with the little landscaping things I did yesterday.

A little cooler today and cloudy... the drone guys are here. Way cool! Gotta watch!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Storm here today also. We already had an inch of rain, but luckily I planned for this yesterday because I have to leave tomorrow morning. I filled my water tanks and put away my hose, then washed off the small door mat. It is "drying" on the picnic table.

I've been here a whole week, but little relaxation. Mostly, I have been sorting and cleaning, plus getting my new class ready and putting together a resource book for my aunt and uncle. I went through my extensive map collection and tossed out duplicates, plus put rubber bands around regional areas, pulling out the ones I will need over the next month or two.

My aunt and uncle live here is Georgia in an enormous home in the mountains, but they also have a lovely 2,400 square foot condo in Venice in an independent living community where they can get meals and some transportation, but no other help. (They have owned this condo for 9 years, but have not spent more than a month in it at one time because they are afraid to leave their Georgia home. Need to put it up for sale.) So I have been researching and getting prices on home health care resources, including on-call nurses at all levels, even RNs. Also, cleaning, help with running errands, and things like food and meal delivery. I even found a company that will count out your meds and give you a contraption that rings a bell and opens a compartment on a timer! I think they would be much happier in their own condo than in assisted living, which is something they are considering. They are not really ready for assisted living, to my thinking since they are driving and doing nearly everything themselves. Maybe in a couple of years, but not now, but they could use some extra help. I have printed stuff out and put together a binder with tabs for everything.

My next project was all my dad's slides from the 50s and 60s that I have been carting around for 6 months. He had them nicely organized in drawers with dividers but then dropped the whole thing just before he died. I bought a viewer and have been going through every lousy slide, tossing out the ones of trees or taken of things that will not mean anything to my kids or grandkids. I pulled out a bunch of cousins and their weddings and have them in packets. Also pulled out a bunch of my deceased brother as a child and teen and have them ready for my niece and nephew.

Neatest find in the slides is one I have never seen, for obvious reasons. It is of my mother in a bra and girdle, fastening nylons to the hose in their bedroom! It had to have been taken in the early 50s. Talk about 50s sexy! :o Anyway, it is cute and priceless.

Got more class work to do today and the other half of the slides to go through. Whew!

Today is another Curves day so will head there in a bit, I skip the crowded morning group because I'm retired and I can! It's sunny but clouds will be on way in. Rain supposed to start tomorrow evenng and they say a pretty good rain but even more snow adding to record snow pack- which for those not familiar with California is our frozen reservoir of water storage. We always hope a warm spring storm doesn't cause a sudden big increase in snow melt ESP with record snow up there. Some ski areas hope to remain open through Memorial Day which helps make up for lean years for the businesses up in the mountains. I will make my usual Wednesday run to the health food store as Wednesday is senior discount day. We use a lot of herbal and spices things from there because they have such rapid turnover stuff is very fresh and much is organic including competively priced organic produce. We use a lot of turmeric and several anti cancer herbs in Mel's smoothie meals. Friday is stress test at VA for him. Having had a conversation with the nuclear med DR herself I'm now more comfortable with her doing it there. I'd like to know his heart is ok because heaven knows he has enough other stuff going on and has had a lot of stress! Had a happy thing happen with getting Mel new glasses at Costco yesterday. Last year when I went they put my order through on my insurance and said I had a $125 copay on my very complicated trifocals blended lens with Toric for my bad astigmatism vs the $600 AFTER insurance for the Eye Dr office shop estimate. I happily paid my only $125. When we tried to get Mel's they had trouble putting it through and said we would have to pay and request reimbursement. We talked a while but they said sorry we can't do anything. Even the manager said that was correct. So we walked out and got home and called insurance. They said we had two seperate coverage policies and both could be billed, one by Costco the other by reimbursement. When i said I did not know why Costco had a problem this year but not last year with mine, she said oh I see that order, they only billed one insurance, I'll put through the claim and reimburse you the $125 from your second policy!!! we went back to Costco, paid the copay and will end up paying nothing for two pair for Mel after reimbursement. That made for a happier afternoon!
Have a great day everyone.
