Simple question, or not

Ok, I'm having a brain fart I guess, I finally got the keys sorted out
and going through what supplies came with the motor home. There
are several adapters for the electrical connection, but no extension
cord for 15 amp(?). Not referring to my 30 amp power cord, of course
that's there, but if I wanted to just plug in regular house current with
a normal extension cord,,,,those standard orange kind? Is that gauge
on the cord sufficient? Or should I get a heavier gauge? I know I can't
run the ac but I could run the microwave and chill the fridge, right?
Just looking at possibilities when I don't have 30amp available and I
don't want to run the generator.

You can't use one of those orange cords because you need to plug into your RV. You need one of these 30amp male to 15 amp female adapters: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/it ... male/27986 You plug your regular 30 amp plug into it and then plug it into a wall outlet. I have one that I use very occasionally to plug into my son's garage. Probably can't run AC on it, depending on how much power your AC takes and what else is on the circuit you are plugging into. My son had a refrigerator on the same circuit and had to move it to something else. Anyway, it will definitely run your refrigerator and microwave, and maybe AC.

That extension cord is expensive, but it will come in handy if you want to pull into a campsite so you are facing a river or lake and need more cord to get to the electrical post.

Anyway, no orange extension cords!!! Not safe.

Yes, I agree with Judy. Get a 30 amp extension cord and a heavy-duty adapter to be safe. I would not try to run my AC on a 15 amp outlet. Maybe a 20 amp if nothing else is running. That's just my opinion, not that I am an electrician.

And you only need the extension cord if your regular cord is too short... The adapter takes care of the 30 amp to 20/15 amp change.

I used a 30 amp down to 15 amp adapter while I'm plugged in at Dad's Garage which is been for six years now... I use it to keep my batteries charged the microwave if I'm out there and want to use it and a fantastic fan I do use that in the afternoon here because it's and it does keep the inside not so hot...you could get away ac with it if you know the wire running to the outlet is a heavy-gauge wire from the box to the outlet and just use it for short periods of time that worked for me for a long time.... I take an extension cord when I go camping because I like to put lights in my clam and I like to cook outside on my electric hot plate sometimes so that's why I have that...

I bought a heavy duty extension cord for when I plug into my house. Just didnt trust the orange one, mine is a lime green higher rated one.

Alice, but you'll ONLY need that if your 30 amp cord isn't long enough. If it is, you only need the adaptor. I rarely have needed my extension cord for that purpose.

Walmart generally sells the 30 AMP cords.

About four weeks ago first time I saw the 30 amp chords here and our Walmart so I bought one... I'm sure it will come in handy when I have to park further away from the electric post...
