Winter Solstice Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Winter Solstice Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Dec 21, 2016 7:50 am

Good Morning,

Well, we have reached the shortest day of the year and it's all uphill from here in terms of daylight. Course it will be a few weeks before we notice it. Sunshine for the morning here which will brighten the day for awhile, followed by a little snow later. Temps are heading into the 30's for a few days, which will definitely drop the snowpack here.

Got my spare bedroom painted yesterday, so that's done. Now to put it back together. Bed is temporarily apart and in spare bathroom and pictures in the closet etc. But it's "Payday" today, so off to bank, store etc., this morning. Then I'm sure a dog walk this afternoon. Y'all have a great day.

Good morning Sue and all... 63 here but no sunshine a very cool breezy day totally overcast very appropriate for the first day of winter here in Florida... I don't remember what I've said and when I haven't said but I got all my Christmas obligations packed and sent and everybody received them... went to a little Christmas GTG last evening with the church Bazaar ladies we just had hors d'oeuvres and snacks... Tuesday night is usually the night we get together and work on our own projects and then Wednesday all day projects for the bazaar ...well that's going to change around after the first year since we found another church in Palm Bay to go to ....they have room for us and only about half what we're used to so we had to downsize a lot of our craft supplies.... I guess I'm going to clean up the house a little bit so it doesn't look too bad since I have stuff strewn all over the place for the for the estate sale on my stuff... straightening up a little just in case somebody might come buy for the holidays very much doubt that because I don't know anybody here in this town well enough for that to happen... I have decided one thing though next year I'm not going to spend Christmas and New Year's and Thanksgiving alone even if I have to go to a campground to spend those days at least they'll be people around hopefully some potlucks so that's my story for next year Lord willing... have a good one & B safe...do nna

Good Morning
Just a quick check in today. Not much going on - just trying to finish up some year end medical appointments this week. Still wheezing and sneezing a lot, some days better than others.
We have sunshine back but with freezing fog to start winter. Good chance it will be a wet Christmas but not white. No plans here so doesn't matter much.
Happy first day of winter to all

I am ready for longer days. Between short days and the time change I have to pay attention to the time so I'm not feeding in the dark. We have skunks wandering around when it gets dark and I don't want to run into one of them. Our warm up has started so it won't be bad for the next week.

I posted my version of Cowboy Cookies. This is a recipe that I made up from several recipes so hope it works for everyone. I am almost through with my cooking and I hope I can get it delivered this afternoon.

Good Afternoon,

Yep, longer days would be great! Cool and cloudy - love it! I can usually have a few hours without A/C, but hasn't happened here. Gave me cabin fever so I went to WalMart yesterday - enjoyed the ride!

People just pulled across from me and caught me on my way back from taking trash out. Seems we were parked next to each other at Organ Pipe NM earlier this year!

Barbie, glad you get to go back to CA - might as well be where you are happiest. Alice, glad the retirement meeting went well! Carolb, at least you are still having GTGs in the cold! :) Martha, video of CC was priceless. Reminds of the one of my great niece and the musical toy I sent her. Hope you are ready to head out, Linda. Sue, guess that knee is better or at least not keeping you down!

Make it a great day!

Been out gallivanting around this morning. Stopped at the Celery Fields, which is now a bird sanctuary, but used to be (obviously) a celery farm. You could not guess because it has been turned into ponds and wetlands, so normally lots of birds, except today, of course. Then I went to the Save Our Seabirds sanctuary and visited with some of the birds. When I was there a couple of years ago, they had a whole pen full of birds with artificial legs, but very few now. I was told that they no longer outfit birds with those legs because the lady who originally made them is no longer around and catching each bird to change the bandages holding onto the legs is stressful to the birds. So the only birds left with the "peg legs" are getting very old and have been dying off.

I did say hello to the black vultures, however. Last time I was there, one hopped off his perch and brought me an orange pumpkin dog toy!

It is chilly and cloudy today, but that is fine. I also will be glad to have the days getting longer because that means more time to get to a new campground and more time to be outdoors.

Oh, and I was smart enough this time to turn down a third class for winter semester! They money is nice, but I just can't stand that load, so they are having someone else teach it, and I will work with them to understand the newly revised course I had worked on with an online designer for the past six months.

Good afternoon! Just got home from work. I worked at a different shop today. Was pretty busy and I made good tips so that was worth the extra drive. My last customer just lost his wife last night from a massive heart attack. Felt so bad for him! She was only 41!. This shop was very dirty. I am not the cleanest person in the world but it was very noticeable to even me! It wasn't busy when I got there so I spent half an hour cleaning to make it a little more presentable. I don't know how they get by with that. My manager insists that our shop be spotless, as do pretty much all shops I have worked at. You never know when the State inspectors will show up and the fines are very expensive! Not to mention it just doesn't look good to the customers.

Ava, what kind of rocks did you find? I would love to go rockhounding sometime!

Rained here overnight and cloudy today and upper 60's. Not much else going on...
Have a good day! :D

Just got a call from the GC's in California and I am all set to start working there on Feb 7th. I will be starting at $2/hour more than I am making here and working 36-40 hours per week. With my rent of $725 per month, plus my bills, gas, food, car payment, insurance, etc, I will still have about $500 left over each month. Will use that to pay my car off in a year which will then save me $300 more per month! Yay!

The new minimum wage laws going into affect all over, have an exemption for those who make tips. However, California does not have that exemption so everyone makes the full minimum wage. Plus California also made it a law that all employees get up to 48 hours per year of full sick pay. Hair stylists never normally get that, so that will be great if I ever need that! Gotta love California! I am SO excited to move out there again!! :D

Barbie, that's great news. You deserve to be where you want to be.
