Ah, good men have finally chosen to not do nothing... (mitch reply in red)

Yes, the people have spoken - the Elector College is the law of the land, and of course, the people know that going into this, right?

I do not believe, though, that the First Amendment covers the "right" to riot, assault those with differing opinions, loot, and destroy personal property.

Social Security and Medicare - two political fear-mongering hot buttons.
I'll lay my money on "those two institutions are going nowhere".

Mitch:

You have been a long-standing, and very much admired, contributor to WomenRv.

You have certainly been a member here for far longer than I have, and I sincerely admire you for that.

You are a leader here. For that I salute you.

One of the pleasures of this board is the “Quote” function, whereby a member can instantly quote a previous post that another member has made, without the tedious business of cut-and-paste.

I have just noticed that you have mis-quoted me, in red typeface, for something that I did not say.

Doubtless this was in error; a slip of the keystroke, so to speak. Such things do happen.

Nonetheless, in the interest of continued, and accurate, discourse on this thread, I most respectfully request that a correction to this error be made.

Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

The RED indicates my reply to your quote - to separate your words from mine.
It is common usage.

But to clarify further for those following this thread, you quoted Edmund Burke, and I replied to Mr. Burke's quote, in red, as it applied to your post.

There - that should do it. I hope.
If you require further clarification, just let me know.

Just to clarify on "the people" -- almost half - 45% - of voting-age citizens did not vote. Independents collected a few; Clinton collected most; Trump collected slightly less than that. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/11/politics/ ... nout-2016/

Let me repeat: ALMOST HALF of eligible citizens did not vote! I take this to mean that about half the citizens of this country are completely disillusioned with the way politics work and have decided that electoral results will do nothing for them, no matter who is elected.

Indeed, the people have spoken.

My Social Security was drastically reduced altho I had more than the required 40 credits because I retired from the City of San Diego and they are not part of the social security program. I had ALL my SS credits BEFORE I went to work for the City.

My fear is that now that the Republicans have a majority in both the house and the senate they will be able to pass a lot of legislation that will be harmful: defunding Planned Parenthood which provides so very many services to women other than abortion; going on a witch hunt against LBGT people and people of different ethnic backgrounds rather like Hitler did when he came into power. Paul Ryan wants to stop Medicare and give us vouchers to deal with insurance companies who only want to get richer and richer.

Yes, I don't agree with many of Trump's ideas but my main objection to him is his personal behaviors which, in my opinion, are gross and so disrespectful. I remember a time when it was a big deal to elect someone who had been divorced and now look what we have in office. Many conservatives went crazy when Michelle bared her arms. Now the whole world can see pictures of our first lady naked in soft porn. Sad! just don't understand how someone who has declared bankruptcy on most of his companies and cheated so many of his subcontractors is going to help this country. The last I read, Clinton had won the popular vote by about two million. So obviously, the majority doesn't rule.

Since the hijacking has progressed,i have decided to join in.

I will confess I am one of those who, until this election did not vote. So yes, right or wrong I was completely disillusioned with the way the system works. But this election certainly got my attention.

Why did this election get my attention??!! Because I am a hypnotist and hypnosis works by accessing the unconscious mind. I realize the power of the subconscious and that it can be reached by different methods. I think the excerpts I have posted below will explain. If you care to read the complete article, I have added the link. If you want to read just the part about how any unscrupulous, effective salesman can use your brain against you, to get you to buy what he is selling, by doing mind manipulation, scroll down to the section on How Trump Uses Your Brain to His Advantage

https://georgelakoff.com/2016/07/23/und ... g-trump-2/

All thought uses neural circuitry. Every idea is constituted by neural circuitry. But we have no conscious access to that circuitry. As a result, most of thought — an estimated 98 percent of thought is unconscious. Conscious thought is the tip of the iceberg.

Unconscious thought works by certain basic mechanisms. Trump uses them instinctively to turn people’s brains toward what he wants: Absolute authority, money, power, celebrity.

Even if he loses the election, Trump will have changed the brains of millions of Americans, with future consequences. It is vitally important people know the mechanisms used to transmit Big Lies and to stick them into people’s brains without their awareness. It is a form of mind control.

People in the media have a duty to report it when the see it. But there are constraints on the media.

Certain things have not been allowed in public political discourse in the media. Reporters and commentators are supposed to stick to what is conscious and with literal meaning. But most real political discourse makes use of unconscious thought, which shapes conscious thought via unconscious framing and commonplace conceptual metaphors. It is crucial, for the history of the country and the world, as well as the planet, that all of this be made public.

And it is not just the media. Such responsibility rests with ordinary citizens who become aware of unconscious brain mechanisms like the ten we have just discussed. This responsibility also rests with the Democratic Party and their campaigns at all levels.

Is the use of the public’s brain mechanisms for communication necessarily immoral? Understanding how people really think can be used to communicate truths, not Big Lies or ads for products.

This knowledge is not just known to cognitive linguists. It is taught in Marketing courses in business schools, and the mechanisms are used in advertising, to get you to buy what advertisers are selling. We have learned to recognize ads; they are set off by themselves. Even manipulative corporate advertising with political intent (like ads for fracking) is not as dangerous as Big Lies leading to authoritarian government determining the future of our country.

I can't see much difference in having Trump's wife as first lady or having Bill as first "lady."

Well, unless he gives up office or they impeach him for something, we're stuck with him for the next four years.

Well Martha the difference is that Bill stuck with consenting adults and wasn't grabbing women by the PUSSY whenever he wanted and could "get away with it because I'm famous". Yes, Bill cheated on Hillary and she has been villified for sticking by her husband. Trump has cheated on EVERY wife he's had. Trump's mocking of a disabled person was reprehensible. He said yesterday that he would only round up aliens who had warrants and criminal histories. Our laws do that anyway. So, just like Hitler, he wants to round up and either deport or "put behind fences" anyone who looks different that him. Don't any of his followers see the similarity to Hitler. That's exactly how he started rounding up the Jews and the German people allowed it to happen and look how it ended up for them. SHAME.

Folks, just a reminder though I am not an administrator.....but. :? And yes those of you on FB already know that I also have my opinions but I did sort of like it that the forum was one quiet place where I didn't hear the rehashing of everyone's thoughts on the current state politics. Adventures in SS# okay but please don't turn this into FB. Yes, there may be points and reasons to be expressed on all sides and everyone to their credit is being polite and civil but I can find all these opinions someplace else. I would prefer to sit by the camp fire and hear the crickets and stories of friendship and travel adventures. They strengthen my spirit and my heart so that I can go back out to the other world and have enough positive energy to speak up and stand for my personal beliefs and face the constantly changing world of uncertainty. But there you go that is just another one of my opinions. Thanks for listening......I will be over in the hot tub, with my glass of wine watching the campfire, listening to the owls hoot and waiting for Nan tell another of her of so special stories...... :)
