Put my house on the market

Postby Getupngo » Mon Apr 20, 2009 9:46 pm

Well, everyone, I made the decision to let go of the house I shared with my late husband. I signed the papers with my real estate agent tonight ... and the sign goes in the ground in two weeks. I'm ready to make a new life.

Now all I need is a giant garbage truck. I'll rent a storage unit and put my "extra" stuff in there until after closing. THEN I'll have a garage sale.

I originally wanted to put an offer in on a beautiful foreclosed home around the corner from my son's house ... but was told the bank won't accept if I have a house to sell. The good news is that I have a smaller home surrounded by larger homes in a nice neighborhood, and everything on the market in my area in my price range are short sells and foreclosures. So I'm feeling good that it'll move in the a month or so.

I plan to get the house painted, staged & ready to show ... and then get in the MH and LEAVE TOWN until it sells. I am not a white glove housekeeper, and and keeping a house in "show" quality is something that I cannot do. Then once it sells ... I can make a decision as to whether I want to full-time. HAH!!

That is SO exciting. What a decision to make. Are you relieved that the "should I, shouldn't I" part is over?

Congrats! I understand the tough decision you just made - and yes, it was tough. Now that it's made, I bet you're sighing with relief. Here's hoping that it does sell quickly. You can take a lot of time in deciding whether to buy again while you travel. No hurries - houses will still be there :)

Very excited for you. Hope it sells quickly and at your asking price.
Have you decided where you are going to travel while it is on the market?

Congratulations, Janice! It's the 'shall I, shan't I' decisions that are the hardest to get through, and you have made it!

Your plan to have a small home somewhere near your son some day sounds like a good plan, too, if it should pan out. Although I some day wish to travel the country whenever and wherever, I know in my heart that I will always need a 'rooted' home somewhere, too. Although my trailer feels like 'home' now, and probably always will to me, this HOME I am in right now is like my nest from which I can fly any time I choose, after I retire. I still need a home-based nest, I guess is what I am saying. I realize that not everybody needs this, and many are perfectly happy to be from everywhere yet nowhere in particular. I have a need to be from somewhere in particular. Perhaps because we moved so much when I was growing up. Our summer camp in Connecticut was my 'home base' back then, until Hurricane Carol took it away.

You will have plenty of time to test yourself to see how you feel about a home on wheels! I can feel your relief from here!

I certainly understand the "should I, shouldn't I" feeling, 'cuz I'm in that stage still. It must be a great relief to have made a decision. Congratulations!

Oh, Jan, what exciting news!!! I hope it sells quickly for you... ;) I agree that "roots" are needed, especially, when you have kids, and a small "cottage' somewhere close is looking to the future. Ernie & I have a plan that when this lifestyle grows "old" or we grow "too old" for it, we'll finds us something small, like a single wide trailer in a park...but right now, we so enjoy being "gypsies"......so there's no hurry....Also found out that we are appreciated more when we're gone part of the year..... Here's to a quick sale..... ;)

I'm lowering my stress level by hiring people to come in and do the painting, handyman work, etc. And instead of renting a storage unit (with all the requisite shuttle trips to and fro) I'm going to have one of those storage "pods" delivered to my driveway. I'll fill it up & have 'em take it away. What a wonderful service!! I'll just need to make a list of what's in there, 'cuz I KNOW I'll forget. The valuable things I'll store in my son's basement. Probably just a box or two.
