Wednesday & Leaving Florida

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday & Leaving Florida

Postby JudyJB » Wed Oct 05, 2016 5:39 am

Yup, I am actually up. Have been up since 4 am because I could not sleep. Extremely windy here in Amelia Island--another storm coming in from NE, but Hurricane Matthew is headed our way, so we are headed west into the panhandle and probably into Georgia Lake Seminole COE campground. Anyway, all ready to go and waiting for sun to get up so I can back up safely and dump my tanks on the way out. It was so windy here last night I put slides in because I was facing sideways to wind and was getting a bit dizzy.

So, had some OJ and waiting for breakfast until later. Was originally planning to head to west coast of Florida, but decided I really did not want to get caught against the Gulf. I filled up gas tank yesterday and have a full tank of propane and half a tank of water, and a ton of food so I think we are in good condition! I also have a couple hundred dollars in cash tucked away.

Anyway, hope anyone else here is Florida is taking precautions. I will keep in touch.

Good morning
I'm so very tired, have been up most of the night, unable to sleep.
That never used to happen, so I don't know what that's all about.
We have early release at the schools today, means I'm on the clock
all day, no going home for a nap.
Fall is definitely here, chill in here early morning and I turn the
furnace on, then ac in the afternoon. Only two more days and
I'm off for fall break. Definitely cleaning and getting camp driveway
prepared for the winter. The back yard needs doing but its mud
right now. Hopefully by the weekend it will be dry enough to
get some work done out there.
Nothing else is on my mind, so, y'all have a great day, be safe and
hope no one has any damage from this hurricane coming in.

Good morning everyone I am also evacuating over to the West Coast of Florida I am right smack-dab into where it's probably going to be at landfall... there is mandatory evacuation across the river from me and that's only about a mile I'm very very nervous about this storm I've never been through anything like this before but I'm heading out as soon as rush hour is over I think prayers are needed all up and down the Florida coast and on into the George of the Carolinas

Cypress Landing RV Park in Alabama is reducing their rate for rvers forced to evacuate. That said, where ever you go, be safe.

Off shortly to the store. Here's hoping I can finish the inventory and recording of it today.

Good morning gals! :D

Woke up early since I gained an hour yesterday crossing into New Mexico. Want to take some pics around town this morning before heading out. Lots of refurbished places here but also lots of abandoned places too.

Will be going thru Albuquerque during their hot air balloon Fiesta today so am hoping to see some balloons later.

The weather looks like it will be perfect again. Sunny and 75 and less windy. Looks like I am a day ahead of rain and storms the whole way west this week.

I still wake up in the mornings with the panicked feeling of "what the hell am I doing??" but as soon as I get on the road it turns to excitement. Am having so much fun on this trip but it will be nice to finally get settled into my new place and get into a routine. I think it will be good for me to not be living alone and having other people (and animals) around me.

I try to imagine what people who drove out west on Route 66 were thinking and feeling as they headed into the unknown hoping for a better life. I am sure they were feeling similar feelings as I am. It was a lot longer, slower and more difficult journey for them. The roads were much worse and their cars were not as reliable. Of course, way before then, covered wagons made the same journeys in even harder conditions. My great grandparents came this way in their covered wagon with 12 kids in tow. They got some land in Texas but discovered some black oily stuff in their well water, so they moved on... oops! I know my parents drove Rte 66 several times to California and back to visit my grandfather in Los Angeles. So there is some family history along here as well.

Anyways, time to get ready here and head out...

Hoping those along the east coast find a safe place to stay until Matthew has passed thru. Looks like a nasty storm!

Have a great day! :D

Sitting here in Crab Orchard Campground in the Wildlife Refuge near Carbondale, IL. Meeting up again with BJ this afternoon and then making my way back to Ohio starting tomorrow. Watching the weather but it isn't looking promising for a kayak out on the ripply waters and the weather predictions. Either way the lake is beautiful and watching the birds is nice.

Dogs have eaten and are waiting for their walks......

Good Morning,

Glad to see you gals in Florida are moving west! I may have to do the same by the weekend - just will continue to watch Matthew's path. Niece's family will probably not be coming for the weekend. :(

Barbie, I'm looking forward to seeing Route 66 through your eyes! Glad the trip is going well. Beth, great to hear everything is working and you can go to Pat's. Cheryl, enjoy your camping! Nice there are so many gtgs.

More chores, but I'm gettin' there! Hoping the weather is as good as predicted next week so I can play.

Make it a great day and stay safe!

I know I already posted, but I ended up calling the scheduler and explain
I hadn't slept all night. They will send a relief driver on my route. Layed down
for awhile, dozed for a little but then got hit with a migraine. Haven't had one
in a very long time. Am laying up in bed with extra window covering and just
relaxing. Hope I feel better later, I hate wasting a sick day being sick but it is
what it is, and something is very off in my system. I might see about scheduling
a visit to the doctor if things don't show any improvement.

Just got settled in for the evening in Grants, NM.

Weather was perfect again. Not as windy so that was nice! Lola was pretty unsettled tho for most of the day. Not sure why. She got a little freaked out this morning because she got under the bed that has a wood pedestal for a frame so I had to get the owner to help me move the box spring to get her out, so maybe that was why she didn't settle down so quickly when we left.

Stopped a few times and did some souvenir shopping at Flying C Ranch and Clines Corners. Just got some earrings and a top and a Rte 66 book. Got some more cool pics of old cafe's, gas stations, trading posts, and other building that no longer have signs. There is a sign for a old cafe in Tucumcari and at the base of the sign is an old rusted out pickup truck with a homemade camper on the back made of wood. Took several pics of that!

Was surprised to see and drive thru mountains just before Albuquerque. Loving the red sandstone rock! Got off I-40 about 20 miles before Grants and took that up thru the hills and around the red cliffs and it was beautiful! Also came across some ruins of little cabins so got some good pics of those. There were a few other places I wanted to see but had to pass due to time constraints. Hopefully, another time...

I stopped also at the Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post just west of Albuquerque next to a humongous Camping World. They have old vintage trailers that you can rent for the night if you don't have your own. Took some pics of those. Have any of you stayed there before? It looks really nice but probably expensive. Also saw someone pull in with a 40+ foot diesel pusher pulling a matching enclosed cargo trailer that was at least 20 ft long! :o

Just east of here are large black lava beds! I was so surprised to see that! Don't you need a volcano for that? Maybe there is one around here that I haven't read about?

More adventures tomorrow! Will be meeting Liz in Winslow!

First motel I have been in that is less than impressive but it will do for one night. Lola is happy tho, to be able to run around again!

...just read that there is a volcano near here called the Bandera Volcano. Who new?

Barb, we have stayed at Enchanted trails at least twice. People were nice and if I recall prices were not outrageous. We were there in our 40 ft bus. Sounds like you are making good progress. Hug Lola for me.
