stack or vent??

every so often reference comes up about needing to clean
the not sure of the term vent or stack whatever as they can get clogged
and you will end up with odors...and odors I have...not constantly but enough
that it bothers me...had the tanks pumped out in Aug... or early Sept....not full
so the question where is that vent??? and how does one clean it?

Mine is on my roof. Can you get a young relative to go up there
to check it out?
I had odors once when the seal in the bowl had debri and wouldn't hold
water. Good cleaning took care of that. Also make sure all your drains
are holding water in the p-trap as well.
Also, I don't run the bathroom fan either as that can draw up the fumes.

my problem is I don't know which one it is up there to have someone look at it
thanks for the ideas ...so need to have the seal changed as it doesn't hold water...even when cleaned

Depending on what toilet you have,,,,,
It was cheaper for me to replace my toilet than to do
the seal. Doing the seal required a service call + parts.
The new toilet was only $78 and had a friend do the
swap out.
But, most definitely if the bowl isn't holding water now
that's where the odor is coming from.

I agree with Ave, sometimes it's cheaper to just change the toilet. I replaced one myself some years ago. When I had the toilet replaced in the motorhome I have now I got the tallest one I could find. We have the tall toilets at home and the old one was like sitting on the floor.

when my husband got the seal it was 35 dollars in Q don't know what it is now and he could do the
work last time it was done he talked his brother in law into doing it for him as he was starting to fail..
so guess now I need to find out who my friends really are...or see if I can find it up here and have son in law do
it...
want the toilet seat replaced as well...

I just had my seal replaced. The part was cheap and 1/2 hours labor, not too bad. I researched it first. Sometimes the seal just needs a good cleaning and lubricating. Put on your rubber gloves and give that a try. If it still won't hold water, then the seal needs replacing. For me it was cheaper than a new toilet.
