Sunday Driving

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

October's 1st Sunday the 2nd :-)

Mornin' ladies ~~~
Guess everyone is busy today, church, Brown County, or on the roads some place. Not much happening here, just trying to get my act in gear to head to WI on Tuesday.

Since I can't seem to find a BBQ grill I like for camping, and right now do not want to spend a couple hundred on another one, I bought an electric 2-sided griddle for camping so tried it out this A.M. Plenty of bacon, sausage, pancakes and eggs to share. And do I didn't eat all of them, but wanted to try most breakfast things. Tonight trying dinner on the flip side.

Sorry to hear about your friend Beth and Donna, hoping you are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Ava, how funny that you had to have training when you are on the final countdown.

Have a good day ladies & stay safe on the roads.

Sunday Driving

Postby BarbaraRose » Sun Oct 02, 2016 10:02 am

Guess I am the first one on this morning!
Just getting ready to head out. Didn't sleep well so slept in a little longer. Also have some "system" issues so took some Pepto Bismol and waiting to make sure that it is working before leaving. I think it may be from the spaghetti I had at the local diner last night. A little rich and spicy!

Lola must know we are getting ready to leave. She keeps trying to hide under the covers! Next stop, Tulsa. About a 5 hour drive.

Hope you all have a great day! :D

Kathy K just headed off towards home with several jello options depending upon how she feels. I extended my sat an additional day and am hoping to get the kayak wet on the small lake as the sun is expected to actually shine for awhile to day. It is just now (11:45) making its way through the mornings fog. Dogs have completed their three mile walk earlier in the fog and it is time to check e-mails. Yippee, BJ has some visit time so I will head off to Carbondale tomorrow. Continued safe travels, Barbie and hope everyone has a great day!

C just sent me a video of three puppies, all making that high whining noise that puppies sometimes make. Drew was alarmed at the puppy whimpering. He ran around the back of my worktable, trying to find them, and stood on his hind legs to look for them on the tabletop. Then he sat behind me and whined with them! I'm pleased that he thought the puppies needed attention, even if he couldn't find them! My chuckle for the morning.

Good morning
A little rain this morning but not a heavy storm. Have laundry in
the works and getting ready to re-arrange things in here.
Had dinner at daughters last night as I took all my Christmas stuff over
for her to pull out what she wanted. We also had a nice long
conversation, something we seldom get to do.
Not much else on my mind so y'all have a great day, be safe.

I don't have room to carry a BBQ grill but would like to find a griddle small enough to fit in a cabinet. When our house came in the stove was damaged so we did all of our cooking on a griddle and in the microwave for several months. I hate to get out the griddle we have because it takes up too much room. It smells so good when someone is cooking bacon at a campground.

I was right about cooking Mexican food in a slow cooker. It was mush but tasted good. I'll have to think of something else. Might just take a dip or cake. I'm not much for cooking on the road.

My son is still cleaning and organizing. I ordered some roman shades for the living room while he is on a roll. We are finally rid of the mini blinds the cats had torn up. There are only 3 windows that don't have new blinds. I should go ahead and order new shades so I don't have to put them up.

I finally got my suitcase emptied and put away. Hope I don't have to use it again soon. Now to get things back to the camper. It is easier to have things that stay in the camper all the time so I don't forget things.

It has warmed back up to 90. It is actually getting a little dry since it hasn't rained in a few days.

Martha, how about a rotel, hamburger meat and cheese sauce /dip in crockpot with a bag of chips and containers of sour cream, green onions, olives, diced tomato, etc for on the spot nachos? You could have burger precooked and velveeta cubed and just dump in crockpot to heat. Everything else could be in baggies ready. My sister in law used a mixture of sausage and burger and heated in crockpot for new years eve each year.

We don't have many plans today other than putting some pork on smoker for both eating and freezing. Tried to get flu shots yesterday but when pharmacy tried to put insurance into computer, the medicare computers were down! As she said, they should do better, Medicare should know pharmacies do work weekends! Will call her in a bit to see if its ready.
Fun news here. I get group emails from my high school friends. This morning I opened an email from our classes foreign exchange student for our senior year. She was from Germany and now is in France. She wrote a nice newsy note about her life and apologized she did not get news in time to join us but hopes to come visit in future. She had been on our list of can't find until recently!

Looks like clouds moving in here and sprinkles predicted by end of day. Yay!
Have safe travels and fun day all.
Just heard from pharmacist, insurance went through so we will go at 1:30 when she returns from lunch!

Just got in to Tulsa and settling into our motel room. Lola was not a happy camper today. She cried for almost 2 hours before she finally settled down. I had my hand in the cage for most of that two hours (unless I was on a tricky freeway, like going thru Kansas City! OMG!!).

I took enough Pepto to keep me stopped up for the next week! Good thing too, because from Kansas City south, there are no wayside rest, no truck stops and practically no turn offs for tens of miles! Not a good thing if I had needed a bathroom quick!

The weather was perfect altho a bit windy so I slowed down some today. Just after Joplin, MO, I passed a fatal accident going the other direction. The freeway was completely shut down on that side. I stopped just a mile down the road for gas and a nice gentleman knocked on my window to ask which direction I was headed. He saw I was from MN and thought I might be headed that way and wanted to warn me about the accident. Oh, and gas is down to $1.89 around here! That saves me some money! Checked my gas mileage and amazingly I am getting 19 mpg! That is with the wind resistance from the cartop carrier and pulling the trailer and having the AC on, and driving about 65 mph. Good little Jeep! :D

I turned onto Route 66 just at the Oklahoma border and followed that all the way to my motel in Tulsa. Stopped to take pics of old motels, cafes, gas stations, etc. Pretty cool! Also stopped to see the Catoosa Blue Whale which I have really wanted to see.

Lola is being very affectionate right now. I think she is very happy to be off the road! Me too, and very hungry! Need to find a place for dinner and hopefully something that agrees with me better. Will probably stick to fast food since that is what my body is used to!

I think my next stop is somewhere around Elk City, OK. Will see how far I get by late afternoon. There is a lot to stop and see along Rte 66 that way. Hoping the weather stays cool.

Barbie - glad you are making good time. Wouldn't it be perfect if you had an RV - that way you would have your own potty,
bed and stuff along with you!!
Travel safe,

Barbie, hope your system clears up. I hate to have to take Pepto as it takes me just as long to get over that. I hate that so many states have closed rest areas. At least Texas has some places to pull over without restrooms. Louisiana doesn't even have that. Hope Lola has a better day tomorrow. Maybe she will be tired.

Velda, thanks for the dip idea. I was really surprised how fast I was able to get my flu shot at Walmart on a Saturday. The store wasn't very crowded like it usually is.
