Chaser: Unlocking the Genius of the Dog Who Knows a Thousand

Postby havingfunnow » Wed Sep 07, 2016 10:44 am

While I'm babbling about my new Border Collie, let me recommend my current book, Chaser: Unlocking the Genius of the Dog Who Knows a Thousand Words by John W. Pilley Jr. Ph.D. It's excellent.

I'm going to have to track down the original scholarly paper about Pilley's work with Chaser. It doesn't surprise me that a Border Collie could learn so many words, but I am amazed Pilley could devise experiments that would convince the scientific community! Impressive!

I have read of his work and seen a couple videos in the past. Good science is a joy to find!

I love to watch Agility competitions. Border Collies always win. I have seen a little tiny Poodle compete, and, a Cocker Spaniel compete....they did well, but are no competition for the Border Collies. Now, as far as Service Dogs go, many breeds are qualified. lyn
