Last Tuesday of August

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Tuesday of August

Postby Colliemom » Tue Aug 30, 2016 7:50 am

Good Morning,

Sunshine starts the day here. Looking like a great weather pattern coming up for rest of week and perfect for Labor Day weekend. Might have a shower or maybe a thunderstorm this afternoon, but scattered. Going to get a little cooler though starting tomrrow for a couple of days. Highs in the 60's and low 70's and up from there. Going to be great camping weather.

I'm getting the trailer loaded slow but sure. Going to pick up a few things from the store this morning and then will put rest of stuff in that I want to take. This evening I will load the fridge. Have an early appt. in town tomorrow morning and then will come home, hitch up and be gone. Only going to Indian Lake State Park near Manistique, in the Upper Peninsula, about two hour or a bit over drive. Then will move on to Van Riper State Park, near Champion for remainder of weekend. Come home next Tuesday. Want to avoid the Labor Day traffic. Can watch everybody else leave. School bells ring on Tuesday. This will be Piper's first camping trip and first time in my trailer, so don't know how she is going to react, but I'm sure she will be fine.

Donna, so sorry to hear about your dad. And I agree with the others, you need to ask questions and make it clear to the doctors that you are his caregiver. Don't know if he every made up a POA for health care, but now is when one should have been. Alice, been wanting to say congrats on the earlier than planned retirement. I just know everything will work out. Sounds like you are doing your research and getting your ducks in a good line as you say. Sheila, congrats on the new to you truck. Now you can be mobile again. Can't remember what else I read, but I know some of you have been busy and others enjoying time on the road. I won't have Wifi tomorrow night but will on Thursday night, so will miss Rabbits Rollcall on Thursday.

Well, time to be moving along here. Wash is in the washer, bed needs to be made as I changed the sheets, got to get cleaned up and mosey on to town. Y'all have a great and safe day.

Good morning all. Another beautiful day here. I'm looking forward to the lower temps too, Sue. Or at least the lower humidity! Hope you have a good time on your well deserved trip, Sue. Anita and Liz, enjoying seeing your pics and commentary of your trips. Donna, I hope you were able to get more information on your dad's condition. Thinking about you and sending good thoughts to you.

I am going over the mountain today to help a friend put together a storage unit(s) for her shop. Hope there are good instructions! Not my favorite thing to do but doing it together will make it go easier or at least I hope so! In fact I'd better get to it and get myself ready to go! Hope you all have a good day and travel safe.

Good morning everyone as far as whether here we are preparing for this unnamed tropical storm so far we will get a lot of rain from it and maybe some wind but I don't think we'll get too much of anything else is going through Northern Florida I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression yesterday about my dad the doctors and nurses and therapy and everyone is very very informative the problem is with the brain swelling and bleeding the doctor told me yesterday it can do that up to 10 days yet so that is why they don't have a prognosis they don't know what the brain is going to do it's not that I'm not informed I'm very much informed and they know everything and I inform them of my dad that this is not the man lying in front of you who it is I tell them on Thursday he was standing in front of the stove cookingg hamburger for goulash just to give them an idea that he could do things and wasn't this crippled man laying in the bed no he was very limited and he had to be watched in case he fell over or anything like that but anyway when I went in yesterday he was able to swallow a little better and he does respond and he does talk back to you in a slurred manner not sentences or anything but he says words and knows what he's doing where he's at and what happened to him but he said I don't believe I had a stroke but then that would be my dad..lol.. the doctor said to me yesterday he's very serious and and in a danger zone yet... so the physical therapist came yesterday and when he said I read his chart and I came in here and he responded to my evaluation exercises I was very surprised I thought a person with a massive stroke would not have been able to do what he can at this point in other words he tried in some instances even on his left side was able to respond to exercises .. anyway it's going to be a long haul as long as the brain stops swelling and bleeding have a good one everyone & B safe...donna

Good Morning, It is supposed to cool down after today with lower humidity I think everyone will be much happier! This has been the worst summer in a long time and I hope it is a long time before we get another like this one!! My 18 year old Maytag stack washer/dryer had to be replaced as they couldn't get the repair part it needed. To fit the space I had to get the smallest one that is made. What a piece of poop in comparison. It is a Whirlpool, the brand the repair people suggested and they work on all makes. It is so loud, only fills with water part way ( it is a top loader), supposedly to save water. I'll have to wash such small loads it will probably use more. :? It is also so light it moves a bit when I open the dryer door. I think with adding all the technology they forget the real purpose of appliances. I'm going to have my friend who can find anything if it is out there look for the part. I had to wait until they moved it out so I could find the model number. Which makes me wonder now how did they look for the part without the model number.... The old one is still in the garage so if it can be fixed will bring it back and sell the new one!
Hard to believe it is almost Labor Day!! Have fun and be safe.

Good morning gals! Still in bed but getting up soon. Lots to do!

Donna, like I said, I know it is a waiting game with strokes like that. Sounds like your dad is making some progress tho. Will probably be a long road ahead with recovery tho. Hoping for the best for both of you!

Storms over night so supposed to be cooler and dryer (less humid) for a few days now. That will be a big relief! I don't like the humidity!

Got a therapist appointment at noon and then dropping off a ton of stuff at the Goodwill. Then more sorting and purging this afternoon. It is scary getting rid of so many things. Went thru all my kitchen stuff last night and am getting rid of most of it but in reality, I haven't even used most of it. I don't cook much but I have an obsession with collecting kitchen gadgets! Go figure!

Didn't sleep too well again last night. New stuff on my mind now to worry about! Lots of things left to do in just 4 weeks!

Hope you all have a great day! Those in Florida, batten down the hatches for the storm! Those on the Gulf coast will be getting it hardest.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

BJ - I know exactly what you mean! The government has stuck their environmental noses into our laundry! Unless someone has bought a new washer and dryer in the last few years they won't know what we are complaining about. "They" have decided that a full tub of water is actually only 2/3 full; a medium level is less than half; and a low level is laughable. "They" have also decided that hot water doesn't really mean hot - I mistakenly thought choosing the hot setting would give me water only from the hot water faucet - wrong. "They" have decided on the right temperature for hot so they mix cold in. Their hot isn't my hot. Because the water level is lower, "they" have made the agitator action stronger so my clothes twist tightly around and around and things are turned inside out. I wash on permanent press cycle all the time because the machine beats up the clothes so bad on normal.

So my question is - why give us dials with all these choices if you aren't going to let us choose?!?

Don't get me started on washers. :x It was a saga after the hurricane until I got the one I have now. I feel like the washer has too many choices and not the choices I want. What kills me is when it want to be cleaned. What the heck is it doing every time it washes a load of clothes. I don't buy anything to clean it, I just run a cup of vinegar through it.

Harold just left with the horse. He is going to have a heart attack because he gets so upset about the weather. He is on his third shirt this morning. I told him I would follow him in one of the vehicles but no, he's mad at me because I'm not jumping through my a$$ getting ready to evacuate. The storm is still an unnamed depression predicted to go to Florida. Last night he tripped and fell in the living room when I was out feeding the cats. By the time I came back in he had managed to get up. He is going to break a hip one of these times he falls.

Barbie, I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets. Any time I'm near a kitchen store I have to see what they have. I try not to buy anything else but sometimes I see something I can't live without.

I am back in Michigan, camping along Lake Erie in Sterling SP. Yesterday was a meeting with lady who is helping me program stuff I have put together for my updated course and then an annual doctor appointment with blood tests. Got a mammogram scheduled for tomorrow and a stress test scheduled for Thursday. Then back to Ohio to my son's house so he and I can do some maintenance on my RV and reorganize my bins.

I have been worried about being so tired and not able to walk as far as I wanted, plus I am out of breath with exertion and have, not pain, but a little chest pressure. So, had an EKG at doctor's office. As usual, it shows some skipped beats and small amount of arrhythmia. (It will skip a beat and then sort of "catch up" every once in a while.) I have had this weird stuff show on my EKGs for decades but with no other symptoms and have passed several stress tests, but somehow the idea of my heart not quite behaving normally is bothering me now. One doctor told me I have probably had this since I was born. Anyway, I will feel better after the stress test tomorrow.

Going to be only 82 today and drier, and then in 70s for next few days before it goes back up to 80s. One really nice thing I like about a camping spot right next to the lake in this state park is the nice breeze that blows the bugs away!! I left Michigan because of the winters, but I think this summer has been miserable all over the Great Lakes area this summer!! Heat and humidity have really bothered me, so I guess I have been spoiled.

Also, all I want in a washer is two load levels, three temperature settings, and maybe a gentle cycle. When I leave RVing, I will buy one without all the electronic controls, if I can find one. Cheaper too. Hate my kids front-loading monstrosities with 50 settings and don't get clothes clean anyway!!

Funny how things work out... I was just getting ready to load up my car with bags full of my kitchen things for the Goodwill when the maintenance guy told me about a lady that just moved in across the hall that might need some stuff. She came over and took all 6 bags of kitchen stuff and wants to buy almost all my furniture! Wow! That will save me a ton of time and effort and put some much needed money in my pocket! Things are starting to really fall into place now. No turning back now!

At work, we have gone thru 4 washers/dryers in the past 6 months with something major wrong with all of them! They don't make stuff like they used to. Everything now is cheaply made and disposable.

Almost 3 years ago I replaced my 15-year old washer and dryer. I got a bundle deal at Lowe's for a top-loading washer and the dryer. When I was babysitting my grandkids I used to wash their clothes in their front-loading washer. I never liked it and it would smell moldy inside. My new ones are made by LG and so far have been great. Based on the load, the washer sets the water level. Everything seems to get clean.

If a front loader smells when you open the door, it is because you latched the door while it sat unused. They have a tight gasket and sealing door allows stuff to grow. Leave the door slightly ajar between and no more smell! I learned that like the first week I had mine. I LOVE my front loading set. They get clothes cleaner than ( removing stains etc) than any top line top loader I've owned over 40 years of washer ownership. Its so simple, leave door just ajar and no more musty smell. As to not thinking water is hot enough, most fabrics today say use warm or cold water, they are not made for hot water. each to their own, of course, but a front loader can be great. Yes use less water but that's not a bad thing. Mine weighs clothes and uses water necessary to get clothes clean. At end it spins so well clothes take less time to dry. I find the normal setting works for almost every load.

If I ever purchased a washer again, it would be a front loader. Got my first when it came with the house I purchased. It was over 15 years old and it was in the house when I sold it (still working) several years later. But I learned I loved front loaders. That said, I don't need all the bells and whistles, either. But sure wish they would make everything more and more cheaply! As to the smell - top loaders will also do that if left closed.

Barbie, how serendipitous about the new neighbor needing what you have. Great news.

I don't know. I've always had top loaders in my adult life and my parents always had top loaders - always kept closed and never a moldy smell. I think my parents had Kenmores and so did I up until I got the current LG set.

I learned taking care of laundromats, washers should never be totally closed when not in use. That said, the top loaders don't lock when you close the lid and therefore probably have air getting in, whereas front loaders close tightly. But, for the laundromat, we're supposed to make sure they are kept open. They'll be less troublesome.

Yes Beth that is exactly it, a front loader has a locking gasketed door, so when shut it becomes a airtight and water tight chamber capable of growing nasty stuff. A top load just shuts by its weight and is not air tight much less water tight.
