Mid August Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Mid August Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Aug 18, 2016 6:46 am

Morning all,

Can tell we are in mid August as the seasonal change is slowly starting. Days are gradually getting shorter, the nights cooler and morning fogs are starting to pop up. Daytime temps are fluncuating too.

Am watching Weather Channel showing the aftermath of the flooding in a LA neighborhood. Piles and piles of household items all along the streets. Feel sorry for all those affected. And the fire in CA is gobbling up land, homes and whatever fast. Such extremes form one end of country to another.

On the brighter side, Liz has been showing us some great traveling, Birdie is moving right along too. Hope Donna and Margie had a good day yesterday. Wondering how Lyn is doing as wasn't she on her madian voyage? I'll be heading out in two weeks too. Anita soon to hit the road in her SS. Hope others of you can venture out soon. Winter GTGs are being planned too.

Off for my every 6 week Chiropractor checkup this morning and then some serious shopping. Cupboards getting bare. Want to paint window boxes as well to see if this shade will look better. So going to wish you all a nice day and get myself moving.

Good morning Everybody from hot and humid CT. My open heart surgery went as expected and I am home and on my way to getting stronger every day. Just Tylenol for discomfort; no pain med needed.
I've been reading all the posts, but can't comment on them all, Catherine hope your house sells quickly and Martha I think about you and all the people in LA.
Enjoy today. Peggy

Good morning all. I want to turn off this rain! We really need it but everything is so wet! On the upside the yard is greeening up again and actually needs mowing! Maybe in the next day or so I 'll be able to get out there and take care of it! it's been great for pulling weeds though!

Peggy, so glad to see your post! Happy you're home and on the road to recovery. Before you know it you'll be back to travelling! Thank you for letting us know. Sue, hope you get the right color this time! At least the boxes will have a good layer of paint to protect them! My outside paint job is on hold until everything dries out! Sure hope I can get to it before it gets to cold for painting!

My friend and I met up at the fairgrounds yesterday and got some things done with setting up the tent. We tried to set up the awning for in front of the tent but even between the two of us we couldn't figure out what we did wrong, the tarp just wasn't fitting right. So we tore down what we did and figured we'd let her DH do it but will watch what he does! Some day we'll laugh about it!

Not much else happening but need to get my morning going. I need to run yo the store too. I'm out of milk and a few other things so guess I will have to go! Travel safe!

Yay, Peggy. Love seeing your post and knowing you're on the mend to better than ever.

We're having a major cool down this weekend. Highs only in the 50's tomorrow! Brrr lol. Luckily it's only for a couple days. As it's to be cloudy also, I imagine it'll feel even colder.

Sturgis was a washout this year and now we're in the slowdown. We need good weather, especially on weekends or it'll be even slower.

Still unsure of what this winter will bring me. Decisions, decisions.

Good morning, I hope y'all don't mind a newbie jumping in here. ;) Beautiful morning here in SW Oregon, 58° now but weatherman predicts 102 for the high today, 110 tomorrow. We are heading out early in the morning for a week traveling around the Olympic Peninsula to escape the heat and hopefully the temp will be back down to normal when we get back. We're sort of spoiled out here, we rarely get extreme weather so we do tend to whine a bit when it gets over 100 or below freezing for more than a couple days.
Wishing everyone a lovely day and safe travels!

Hello all from still hot SoCal. My patio thermometer must be stuck in the 100's! Peggy, so great to see your post and that you are mending nicely. And welcome, Dianne.

El Nino didn't deliver what "they" expected and our drought continues through another season. The fires have been terrible! And to think they are usually set! What with the flooding, tornadoes, and violent storms around the country; the fires, riots, terrorists and shootings; it's hard to feel hopeful about our country or our world. What kind of crazy brains are out there? It's really hard to keep things in prospective and remember that in this instant world we hear about the bad things immediately, but there were millions and millions of places that DIDN'T have a disaster today. Let's celebrate that! To all of you traveling - have a safe trip.

Good to hear from you Peggy. Glad you are feeling better and not much pain. We are just waiting and watching to see what the river is going to do and hoping for no more rain. We were very luck so far.

I am on a mission to use things out of the freezer. I say that every summer because of a chance of a hurricane. The flooding makes us realize how much food we could lose to a power outage. I am thinking about making a goulash recipe from Facebook. I don't know if that is something my grandson would eat. I have just about given up on finding something he will eat. He is leaving on Wednesday and we won't see him until next summer.

Dianne, about all I do is whine about the weather. Two days of freezing weather and we think we are dying. I'm not happy if I have to wear a jacket.

Anita, have a good trip and I hope you don't run into all the rain. I hear thunder now. I was hoping we would miss the rain today.

Peggy, I'm glad you're feeling better! Martha, glad you didn't get washed away! :D

We've had a little flooding here, but it's very minor, just closed roads and so on. The university is grumbling about damage to their intramural building. Why did the silly people build it on a flood plain, anyway? They have this problem about 1 year out of 4. The library is in no danger, and that's what I care about. Yay library!

Taking a break from driving the Ohio Turnpike. Headed to near where my son lives so I can visit for a few days.

Peggy, how wonderful that you can manage with only Tylenol! That is fantastic. :)

Also, Sue when you get your house all painted on the outside, how about posting some photos?? And I am looking forward to cooler nights. I bought a new lightweight down comforter, but it has been too hot lately, so I have to use a lighter throw at night. I much prefer the warm days and chilly nights of the desert, but I am looking forward to Florida soon.

Sounds like a lot of the ladies are either out traveling or getting ready to head out for a last of the summer trip soon. Nice to see a newcomer post, Dianne!! I've been to Oregon twice but will be looking for some new places to check out next summer. Would love some recommendations!

Peggy so glad to hear your recovery is on track!
We are having a warm August with mostly at or near 100 lately. Fortunately not much smoke from various fires as my lungs are only moderately irritated.
Scans on September 6 to make sure Mel is still in the clear, praying he is, anxious until we know. Then he is scheduled to see a Dr about stretching his eustachion tube to allow drainage vs having a tube put in which becomes a mess. Hearing test tomorrow. I can pretty much say anything I want now and count on him not hearing it!
Wishing all who are traveling happy travels. Dreaming of a day when we can. We had hoped for a trip this fall bit Dr apps fast filling in.
Praying all stay safe in the horrible flooding and that no one here is affected by the fires in more than just CA.
I'm off soon to lunch with a friend. Have a good Thursday all.

Peggy, hoping for a smooth and quick recovery!

Dianne, welcome! Newbies are always welcome to post anywhere, anytime!

I am reconsidering moving south this fall again. Either SoCal or Arizona (or maybe even Oregon!). Arizona is much cheaper but would rather be in CA. Need to figure out where I can stay cheap in either place until I get a job (lots of opportunities with Great Clips so that isn't a problem) and figure out a more permanent place to live. My bills are paid off now so that gives me a little more room financially to work with. Anyone in those areas need a temporary roommate? :D

Hot, muggy and rainy today. Storms later and then cooler and drier for the weekend. I have three days off for a long weekend with nothing to do! Looked into a camping trip with the group I go with but they are going way up to northern MN which is a 5 hour drive and it is supposed to rain and storm all day on Saturday. Don't want to spend that much time driving just to spend the one day stuck in my tent in the rain and then pack up and drive 5 hours back on Sunday. Will look for something closer to home to keep my occupied this weekend.

Hope the rains stop down south and the fires get put out in the west! :o
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
