Silly Question

As I type this, I feel so ignorant, but truly I don't know this: when you are traveling, do you have to pick up everything on the counters? Like a coffee maker? Or is there a way to secure it so that it doesn't slide off? Thanks so much.

I secure or put everything away so they don't at best break or at worst become a middle into the back of our heads. Esp make sure fridge is latched so you aren't cleaning up a mess! Yes I did that once!

I put away anything I don't want to end up in the floor. Needless to to say, sometimes things get forgotten like a big glass of tea that didn't get put in a cup holder. Then you get to stop and clean the floor. My coffee maker goes in a bottom cabinet. I have 2 wire baskets along the wall on the kitchen cabinet. They are held in place by something I got at Hobby Lobby. I think it is called earthquake putty or something like that. I put small things in the basket to keep them out of the floor. Don't put heavy things in an overhead cabinet because it could fall out and hit you in the head. I live about a 1/4 mile from the highway and I seldom make it that far before I have to stop and lock something, the refrigerator, a cabinet or a drawer. I have a motorhome so I can tell when something is open. I don't know what people with trailers do. I guess they have to be more careful than I am.

no question is silly !!! I have such a small counter area, that I have found a place for most of my items to stay off the cabinet. I have a mh and there are times, that I have had to stop very hard and fast and have had some things I thought were riding under the table safely come sliding up to the front. Which has been no big deal, the other drivers on the road, however are, so put things where you know they will not be flying in the air towards your head.

We use museum or earthquake putty to hold our coffee maker to the counter. Had one on the counter for 12 years in the Alfa and now have new coffee maker on counter here in Jayco.
I take the glass pot off and put it in the sink on a dish towel when traveling.
We also had a computer monitor and speakers on the counter in the Alfa. Getting it off when we got rid of the Alfa was very hard, it wanted to stay.

I don't drink coffee so don't own a coffee pot, but I do have a toaster velcroed to my counter. I also have a clock that I use the clear museum gel to hold it on the shelf. The rest of the stuff gets tossed into my dishpan. Forces me to do dishes the night before!

And yes, I also sometimes forget to latch a drawer or put something away and then hear it crash as I am driving. Even stuff on the couch or dinette needs to be put away because it will end up on the floor otherwise.

I tow a fifth wheel have lots of stuff on walls husband put them up to stay (if I ever leave this one don't know what I will do )
some stuff gets put away have bins that I put them into some on the counter stay on the counter...have no skid stuff you can find it everywhere
I prefer one over the others..have container that has my utensils in and it's only once gone flying and that time lots did...jewelry box on bed
plants in sink do what makes sense...I even have an aquarium although haven't filled it for a couple of years hope to this year...but have never had a
problem with it on the stand it's one and bungie cord...

My Keurig is secured with a bungee cord - attached to spice rack. Putty stuff from office dept at WalMart keeps a few things secure on the table. I have a plastic soup bowl that sits on a silicone hot pad on the counter with some small odds and ends in it - so far it has stayed put.

I stopped at my sister's to unload her and her stuff one time. The refrigerator didn't get locked back and a few miles down the road one of the big bottles of wine rolled out and broke. That was a mess. A small area rug kept it from getting into the permanent carpet thank goodness.

Sometimes it seems like no matter how careful you are, and how secure you think everything is, there are those times when a rough road shakes a door latch loose or the museum putty unsticks, etc. My DH went over a curb and all the Corelle came flying out of the cabinet. Boy does that stuff shatter! And the time the maple syrup rolled out while bumping along with a tent camper. That small bottle of syrup managed to get the throw rugs, the curtains, and all the other supplies in that lower cabinet. I bet there was still stickum in that trailer when we traded it years later!

It sure is hard to know what that thunk or bang was when you are the lone traveler!
