Heading Home Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Heading Home Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Jul 03, 2016 5:53 am

Good Morning,,

Well, vacation is over . Dogs and I are heading for home. All good things must come to and end as we know. And funny thing is, they are so tuckered out, that they aren't even up yet  Had a totally outside day yesterday with just a couple short naps, trip to the state park, walk here to the access site and back, laying out on the porch, lots of wades in the lake, playtime etc. Full day.

So time to get dressed, gather the loose ends and load the truck, then have a potty walk, so we can get going. Sunny day, going to be great driving. Next time you hear from me, it will be from the home front. Have a safe, blessed Sunday all :)

Canine companions are such a joy and sometimes a pain.

My little pooch used to be a restless traveler, but now he loves the new system. He gets a one minute walk every where I stop, even just for gas.

When I shop for groceries, he waits inside the RV until I return then we do cart return together, all the way back to the front door of the grocery store. This is his reward for waiting quietly.

It slows down all my stops, giving him this one minute break, sometimes we can get over to a patch of grass for him to sniff and water. He knows it's a quickie, but it sure makes him immensely happy. It also means he never has to tell me to pull over because he gets so many breaks along the way that he is a happy rider.

We survived a crazy microburst yesterday that spread outside camper accouterments all over the place. One camper had just set up a brand new pop up awning only to see it thoroughly destroyed when the sudden storm swooped down on us.

Another group had lavishly decorated for the 4th then left to go to another town for a fancy restaurant. Well the weather there was perfect and they returned here after the mess. They were in a bit in shock to see their decor spread far and wide, even their flag pole was snapped in half.

I had my awning tied on one end to the 6 foot 6 ton picnic table and the other end to a collapsible water bag that weighed 22 pounds. Amazingly the storm moved both, never had that happen before.

Well, we woke up alive and that's good enough for us!

Be safe.

Gmorning Sue, Ms M & all to follow:)

Caught up on reading--nice to see so many check in for Rabbit Role call:) I had an opportunity to meet up with a Trek friend to do a whirlwind tour of Maine this past week--had a great time! Didn't take laptop, so couldn't post--my phone doesn't let me post on the forum for some reason?

Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying a lovely holiday weekend. Too bad for the campers who lost their decorations & an awning :( Sue, glad you were able to check out the cg you'd booked for later. Would be a downer to have gotten there to find it unsatisfactory in so many ways. Alice honey, what's a road trip without a few bumps  CArol, glad yours went smoothly...

Neighbors did their big fireworks display last night. Fortunately there was a slight breeze that carried debris to his other neighbor's yard. Don't mind the cardboard pieces, but plastic tips & the ends of cardboard tubes with powder still in them? Nope, don't want that stuff in my yard! Did a cursory inspection & found only a few:)

Y'all be safe this holiday weekend. Nice to be retired to not have to be out there with all the ones who only have holidays to get away.

Have a great day 8-)

Good morning to All. We are still in our friend's yard in Idaho. The weather here has been calm but HOT over 100 but today starts a cooling trend. Glad we weren't in Las Vegas a few days ago. What a mess. And I have to go back to the maps to change the way we were going home as the I-15 from Arizona border heading to Vegas is closed. Pavement washed out. Will take a couple of weeks to repair. Hope all gets fixed quickly on the 93 or 95 as they both were closed for a day or two.
The insurance adjuster will be here on the 6th. Then hopefully we'll be able to take the awning off and get on our way. The whole thing needs to be replaced - can't just do the bent parts! We'll get it fixed here IF they can use the actual awning material. Otherwise we'll go home and do it. As they have to order the material part from the factory - 2-3 weeks.
Also Bill's knee is giving him a lot of problems. so he is limited in how much he walks around. Went to visit the Old Penitentiary here yesterday.
Be careful of even more bad weather heading for the midwest. Glad we're not in Indiana. Here in Idaho the heat is making everything really dry. Been one fire on the outskirts of Boise already. Hope people are careful with their fireworks.
Safe driving.

Good morning ladies
Am finally in relax mode, dropped off the grands Friday night, did one last visit yesterday morning and headed down the road.
Came back to a little town called Goldfield, overnighted in a brand new RV park, first customers!! Its actually still under construction, but I love the area cause I'm really into the geology of the land. There are lots of little shops to explore. This whole trip has really been a learning experience for both of us. For me its mostly what what I remember to bring next time, for him its mostly how stuff works. Yesterday morning I took the big dog out for his potty and he saw another dog and proceeded to a greeting but instead ended up ripping the inside tendon on my right knee. Needless to say I couldn't drive yesterday and moving pretty slow today. I'm afraid this is a real injury. Won't be able to walk the shops like I wanted to but Bill will drive me to the few I want to check out. We hit a bad storm Friday, marble size hail and extreme rain. Lots of water came in at the front cap, and we did pull off a couple times fearing a break in the windshield, we finally got through it but it was scary. The wind took one corner front fender off and one cattle caused us to lose a hubcap. All in all we have really enjoyed this very expensive trip.
If anybody is traveling through Nevada, along highway 95, this is an interesting little town to stop in, shopkeepers are very friendly here. There are 3 RV parks here, this new one having the most ammentities.Ok, I'm done rambling but just letting y'all know I'm alive and well minus my knee. Y'all have a great day and be safe.

"...one cattle caused us to lose a hubcap..."

Ava, please explain! :o

Tired today. Taking Advil PM at night to settle my brain down. Too much on my mind lately! Get thru this day at work and then try to relax tomorrow.

Hope you all have a good 4th!

It took me a few minutes to figure out today is Sunday. Tomorrow being a holiday will throw the whole week off too.

Ms M, glad the weather didn't damage your awning. The weather has been so crazy all over the country. I bought my motorhome used and it has the brackets for an awning but it was already gone. People have so much trouble with them that I doubt I will ever replace it. I look at the screen rooms but I don't have any place to carry one. I keep looking at the shelf things you can put in your hitch but I haven't found one wide enough for my 3 wheel bike. I don't make that many trips a year so don't know that I will ever get one. When I bought my last car I got one that can be towed but have never got it set up to tow. I have been reading your blog for a long time and love your stories about Harley.

Carolb, birdie and another friend are up your way somewhere. I think they were headed to Maine but don't know where they are now. I was camping with them in Texas in April and heard the trip plans but didn't retain much of it. I haven't heard any fireworks yet. The young neighbors with the dog you visited with moved about a mile down the road. They are the only ones close to me that would buy fireworks. My son said he is going to take Jeremy somewhere tomorrow that is having 4th of July activities. A small town East of here has a 4th of July Festival every year. I don't think Jeremy would be interested in a Fais Do Do and a Cajun band. lol I would be interested in some festival food but hate trying to find a parking place for something like that.

Some years ago fireworks set the Parish maintenance barn on fire and destroyed some equipment. I don't remember if they found out who did it. Fireworks do make a mess. The campground my sister and I like let people shoot fireworks off the boat launch. Some of the fireworks have a spike to stick in the ground so all of that needs to be picked up. We decided not to go this year. The campground has added more sites and they didn't get enough electricity before. On weekends I can't run my air conditioner until about dark. The old campgrounds are grandfathered in and don't seem to have any electrical code they have to follow. It is pretty to watch all the fireworks up and down the lake and across in Texas.

Carol, hope you can get your awning fixed soon. I saw all the street flooding in Las Vegas on TV. I have some friends that are there for the weekend. Don't think I would have chosen a holiday weekend to fly somewhere.

Ava, sorry you hurt your knee. Hope it doesn't mean surgery down the road. Your trip sounds like some of mine, it's always something. Barbie, I think she means a cattle guard.

Guess I better get lunch started soon. I told Harold I would cook a stuffed chicken so he doesn't have to cook steaks outside. My grandson loved chicken and dressing last year. This year he doesn't know what dressing is. It's so much fun to talk to a teenager.

Not much going on here. Back at Napa EXPO and son is going to come over today to replace my water filter. I just have a terrible time getting the cover off, so will let him do it.

Otherwise, got laundry in the machines and work to do, so will relax otherwise today. Sounds like more of you are on the road. Hope you all have better weather than Miss Mermaid and Alice! Very pleasant here with a nice breeze, as usual.

Not much happening here. Heat finally pushed out with temps in 90's. Mel will grill burgers and put beans in smoker, while I fix salads. Trying a new recipe I found for Watermelon ice cream with just a few ingredients. If its a success, I will post recipe later. Found it on Pinterest and it's pretty in photo dark pink studded with mini chocolate chip "seeds". Will meet neighbors in cul de sac after dark for safe and sane ( can not leave ground or explode" type fireworks. Always fun and really one of the few times our whole 7 families get together. Have a safe 4 th all.

Velda, I am looking forward to your recipe for watermelon ice cream. A company in the eastern part of the country, Friendly's Ice Cream, makes a wonderful "Wattamelon Roll" which is watermelon sherbet with chocolate chips to imitate black seeds and then covers it with lemon ice. Yum. So you might want to try adding some small chocolate chips or chocolate flakes to your ice cream.

I have been on the hunt for some peach ice cream. Doesn't look like Blue Bell is going to make any this year. I found some Sam's brand peach cobbler ice cream at Walmart. It kind of tastes like peach ice cream. They didn't go over board with the peaches. I didn't know Sam's had a brand of ice cream.

Do you get Schwann's down there? They used to have really good peach ice cream! Maybe still do.

Thanks Barbie. I looked on their web site and they don't show peach ice cream but they do have Watermelon Sherbet. I haven't seen one of their trucks down this way in years. They use to have a chicken dish I loved but I don't see it anymore. At one time we had 2 freezers so I would buy food from them. The freezer we have now is too jam packed to get very much.

That's too bad. Their peach ice cream had big yummy chunks of peaches in it and was so creamy!
