I'm curious though, when you get to forests, etc, do you ever worry about bears? How do you know what wild life (bears, moose, elk, wolves) could be in the area? Something I'd learn sooner or later, but would love to know.

I wasn't looking for diesel but I doubt if those tiny stations had any. Fill up before you go. The distance I traveled really wasn't that far, so probably wouldn't be a problem.

Usually the cgs will have signs and bear proof food and trash containers if there are bears around. I was definitely in elk country back in northern NV, but only saw their tracks. I don't worry about wildlife, but I am aware, and not stupid. If I see any of those wild animals, I get my pictures with my zoom lens, and don't get close. If I did encounter an animal out on a trail at close range, I would follow recommended advice....make noise, make myself look big, wet my pants, etc.

Loved this scenic road tour !! what a beautiful ride through the country side, so sad its been deserted but many areas out west have been. Still laughing about your description of what to do when meeting a wild critter Beautiful area you've found, and thanks for sharing, really enjoyed the ride.

Funny Liz. Wonder what Thistle would do if he saw huge wildlife?? I've often wondered if you are at all leary of doing those long desolate hikes by yourself or even with Thistle. Oregon sure is beautiful isn't it? Again, thanks for sharing your pictures.

Thanks Liz, That is a beautiful area. Sometimes the only way to see an area is to hike by yourself. I used to do it all the time too. The only time I was a little concerned was years ago when I went on a long hike in the desert. I was returning to my car when I noticed large foot prints following mine. Never saw who ever made the prints. lyn

That's always been my fear Lyn. I know you can't live in fear all the time, but past life experiences can influence how you view things.

That's what I thought too, Marda. But the State Park notices about them called them voles...so I figured they ought to know.
