Last Day of May

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Day of May

Postby Colliemom » Tue May 31, 2016 6:31 am

Good Morning,

Well, here we are, saying good bye to May already. Before we know it, we will be saying goodbye to summer too. It's been beautiful here the past few days. No humidity, pleasant temps, nice breeze and plenty of sun with some clouds mixed in. Perfect weather. The air smells of lilacs around here as a lot of us have them, plus the pine, spruce and whatever else if fragrent right now. Trees are leafed out and grass is green etc. My favorite time of year I think. That old saying, "what is so rare as a day in June" holds so true for right now, although won't be June till tomorrow.

Accomplished what I set out to do yesterday. Grass is cut, truck given a good cleaning inside, recycles gone, flowers up to the cemetary and walked around a bit looking at grave markers. I see they are starting to put markers on some of the older graves of those who were settlers here when this area was first settled in the 1880's after the Civil War. The first white women to set foot in this country is buried there as is her husband. Lots of history there. It will become my final resting place eventually too.

So today is off to store, bank and wherever else. Also need to call utility companies to arrange for service transfer in a couple of weeks. Probably do a little packing up too. My electrician is supposed to come and do the work on my electrical box. Said parts should be here tomorrow. Then that will be done. IL"m going to get back to packing as well. Made reservations for my favorite resort in the U.P. for late next month so will be a nice break. Then coming home and getting ready to head out with the trailer. Got to get in there and clean it and get things put where they belong, plus restock for summer. Sometime this week. thinking we need a fall GTG someplace, any ideas out there?

Mornin' Sue and all that follow ~~~

I started thinking about were to go in the fall (north is the idea), but am open to suggestions Sue. All may depend on any go live dates for my project (the one from he _ _ ).

Back at work (bummer) and seeing 200+ emails to get to. Punkin was happy to come home. Jumped around like a silly dog and ran to make sure all his toys were still there. Zorro was happy to see his (my) bed I think.

Not much else happening here. Have a good day ladies and stay safe on the roads.

It sounds pretty pleasant in northern Michigan. The UP is featured in "The Cat Who..." mystery series. It always sounded like a place worth visiting and staying for awhile. My Rand McNally points out there is a touring circle worth driving, but when I look on the map, it looks like the roads are very small represented with thin black lines. Not like regular paved highways marked in red along the northern shore. In person, it is probably not like that at all. Hard to tell from just a single page map.

I miss lilacs. Here on the Gulf Coast we have wisteria, but it doesn't have that marvelous aroma. It is too hot to work outside in the garden after 8:00 am now that June is beginning. This time every year I dream of heading north to find cooler and maybe dryer weather. By July we will be pushing through pea soup to move around outside. Maybe next year, now that we plan to move into the rv.

It sounds like you have a lovely summer planned. I look forward to reading about your travels.

Today is one of those choppy days. Doctor's appointment, then pack a suitcase, stop the mail etc. Have to catch the shuttle at 6:30 tomorrow. Why did I schedule such an early flight? But then -- five days with the kid! Yay!

Good Morning All - Coffee is ready. We are also into summer here - only summer on steroids! Most of May was wonderful. Way below average temps. That is over yesterday it was 96, to day 98 and up and up until the weekend when it is supposed to be 107. And yesterday our AC decided to just blow air - not cooling air. Will call home warranty people this morning when they open up. Sure hope they can get to it before the 105+ days. Otherwise we'll bring the RV out front and stay in it. OR do a lot of mall walking. Speaking of walking we took a walk in the wetlands protected area behind our house yesterday morning. Very pretty, creeks and ponds and even a waterfall. Now the only time to walk is by 6:00 in the morning - by 8:30 it's too hot already.
Today I'm going to work on a Christmas quilt and think COOL.
After my next 2 docs appointments we plan on taking the RV on another trip. Unfortunately we plan on going south to the Mexican border to get the paper work for the RV as there are rumors that the 10 year permits will not be issued much longer. Hope when we go it will have cooled down a little.
Got some pretty tile yesterday to tile one of the walls in the kitchen of the RV. That will keep Bill busy for a while.
Keep safe on the road.
Our walk in the wetlands is in the blog - address in my signature. Very un Vegas like. Image

I'm late. I'm late. And so on. Just a quick check in. It's storming with thunder and lightening. The only way to keep both dogs calm is to get on the bed so they can snuggle up and sleep. Olive prefers to be nearly under me. I pull her up to my chest, roll my weight against her and put a leg over her back until she settles.Maddy is curled up under my arm, almost on Olive's head. When I sit up to read or type, like now, he snuggles against my hip. Whoever said dogs don't like to be hugged or held close hasn't met these two when there's thunder involved. No TV; disembodied voices freak out Olive. Combined with thunder they just might send her over the edge.  I do wonder how they manage to go so long without peeing. I toss them outside, and they sit by the door and wait to come in. Will not move. I've tried putting them on a leash. Nope. They plant their bums and dragging isn't an option for me. So, no peeing until there's a break in the downpour.

Found out a few days ago that house needs a new roof. All the roofers are tied up repairing storm damage, as are the carpenters who could replace the fascia board. Every time I make up my mind to sell, something related to weather puts the brakes on. It's rain or allergies or temps over 100 or something else. Usually rain or pollen or mold or or or.

Whoa, thunder shook the house. Both dogs woke up, looked at me and went back to sleep. I'm their super hero. I need a cape.

Sue, I am going to be in Michigan at Sterling State Park from Sept 7-14. No time for heading up north, but Sterling is a really nice place, right on Lake Erie and lots of bike riding trails in the wetlands, plus a beach to walk on. It will probably be fairly quiet during the week with more people on weekends. They have both full Hookup ($31) and water and electric sites ($26). Only problem is non-residents have to buy a $31 annual pass or a $9 per day pass for every vehicle.

So, if anyone wants to join me there, we could have a mini-GTG. I have not made my reservations yet, but usually pick one of the sites on the north end overlooking the beach--often site 78. No trees in campground, so every site has a good view of lake.

Am in Alamosa, CO, today and tomorrow and taking Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad tomorrow.
