My Computer Has Been Delivered! Guess Where??

Postby JudyJB » Mon May 16, 2016 5:42 pm

As you regular readers remember, I ordered a laptop from Dell 11 days ago. They promised me overnight delivery to Page, AZ, Wahweap Campground on Monday or Tuesday, May 9 or 10th. I spent 20 minutes on the phone spelling out the address and even talking to a "supervisor" because the original guy could not understand me. (You can no longer speak to anyone in the US at Dell. They all are in India.) I was assured they had the address of the campground in Page right and repeated it to me. The address also appeared on the invoice they sent me via email.

However, instead, they shipped it to my billing address in Ohio by ground. I discovered this when it did not arrive in Page. I was planning on being in Grand Canyon from Wednesday through this coming Wednesday, so I gave them the new address, which they promised to correct with Fed-Ex. New delivery date was Friday and then today, because of course they shipped it by ground. (I will spare you the multiple phone calls and yelling and spelling to people who were reading from scrips and did not speak fluent English I had to do to achieve this.) They assured me they had corrected the address with Fed-Ex and it was on its way to me in Grand Canyon, so I have been checking all day with the campground booth about my package.

Then, just now I got a phone call from, guess where--the hotel in Wahweap in Page, AZ, about a package they had just received for me. They are holding it for me. It is expected to rain tomorrow and I have done most of my sightseeing, so I am going to leave here a day early and drive to Page to pick it up. No way am I going to let Dell ship it again to who knows where!!! :x :x :x :x

When I actually get this laptop, I am going to write a letter to Dell's president. I teach business writing so I can write a very polite but nasty letter when I want to!!

Judy, you can tell them you know other women who will never order another dell computer. I like the computers I had but their service sucks.

That is terrible!!!!
Makes me pretty concerned about sending mine in for them to look at. Guess I'd better be prepared for longer than 3-5 business days for it to be gone.
Hope this is the end of this saga - just wish you didn't have to backtrack to go get it. :(

Good. grief.

I agree with Martha, let them know there a whole forum of women who've followed this saga and none of us would order their products after this fiasco.

It is a 200 mile detour I did not want to take.

One nice thing is that Trailer Village here in Grand Canyon does not charge your card until you check out, and there is no penalty for checking out early! But, I cannot get into any of the regular Page campgrounds, so am going to try NFS Lee's Ferry, which has no hookups, but is first-come first-served, and pretty much out of the usual tourist areas. although I am told it does have Verizon access. I will leave early and get there before noon, then drive over to the hotel to pick up my package.

The Dell people were mostly reading from a script and had no concept of me traveling in a motorhome. The one young girl who really irritated me was the one who cheerily told me, even after she knew it was shipped to Ohio instead of Arizona, that the nice thing was that it was being delivered the next day in Ohio! I asked her if she knew where Ohio was and where Arizona was.

I will have to say they were all polite when I was ranting. Even the guy who told me the delay in delivery was due to the change of delivery address--as if I had changed it, not that Dell had made a mistake. Also, I was told they were not allowed to send out emails confirming things like new shipping addresses. And they also told me that getting the tracking information updated for Fed-Ex would take 48-72 hours! That is pretty late when something is supposed to be sent overnight.

I am so sorry you have had to deal with all Dells mess! Sounds like nothing has changed with them since the 90's when I first heard horror stories about dealing with them. I join the others in saying tell Dell another has joined the Never Dell club!

Made it to Lake Powell and picked up my new laptop safe and sound. This area is really booked, so I was lucky to get a no hookup site. SPent last few hours loading all my backed up files and buying and downloading Norton and the Office 365 University software, which I got for $79 for four years! Yea.

So tomorrow, I am headed to Gallup NM and will finally be able to use my new computer. I really like the feel of the keys and how everything works. Really glad I got windows 7!!!!

Geez Juday, after all that, next time you need a new computer, better find a store selling them instead.

So glad the laptop has finally arrived! What a relief, eh? Dell is such a stupid company in so many ways. I swore off them decades ago when they required all that proprietary software -- that kind of thing sends me into a rage. Of course now many companies are doing it, so I'm angry quite a bit.

I have a small form factor Octaplex that I picked up from university salvage that I quite like. It's a real workhorse. I hope your laptop serves you as well as this one has served me.

My old desktop was a Dell and I really liked it but think I will stick with my Aspire laptop. No more Dell if that is how they operate now.

I spent several hours last night downloading software and transferring files from my backup hard drive. I prefer Norton, so I had to delete their McAfee and disabled their Defender. Also, uninstalled their cloud backup stuff, as I will not put ANYTHING on the cloud!

Also got a real deal on Office University--four years for $75! Also downloaded something called SnagIt that does wonderful screen captures and lets you do things like capture a scrolling window and also blur things in photo. Still need Photoshop and a couple of othr things.

Hardest thing to get used to us new keyboard. Because this is 15.6" computer, it has the accounting numeral keyboard on the right, so I am having problems finding keys. I think I will put something fuzzy or with a texture on the backspace key because I keep hitting NumLock instead! o my typing is going to be lousy for a while. I really like the nice big screen, however. The developers at the college have set up tiny boxes for inputting information and reading discussion postings from students so having a bigger screen will be nice for my old eyes.

Now I am working on adding all my favorites. I am so glad I got Windows 7 because I hated how 8 and 10 worked. I am also using IE and still need to download Chrome, but have not had time.
