Chilly Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Chilly Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat May 14, 2016 6:33 am

A Hearty Good Morning all,

Brrrr, who turned the heat off outside. Guess mom nature's furnace gave out  She's gotta get a new one. Heck, it's even snowing in the western U.P. I understand. Oh well, it's May in MI as O'Sharon said same for PA too. I don't have anything planted to don't care, but hard for farmers and those who may have planted sensitive plants. My two pots are keeping comfty in my garage for a couple of days.

The final chapter of the saga of two houses was closed yesterday. My agent came over and we reviewed the inspectors report one more time. He having had his own Contractor and Property Management business, was able to estimate the cost of the repairs and said it looks like at least $20-30,000 in repairs needed at the lake house. Also said from looking at the pictures, that the septic tank was going to need replacing as well. So we filed a Mutual Release form and I am now done with that place. Will be getting my earnest money back. I'm sure the owner is very disappointed, but..... So will see where I go from here. Might make an offer on house next door but can't do anything till after my inspection on Monday and the buyers release the inspection contingency. No problem. Hey, I can always become a full timer for awhile as I said

So today I think is going to be a relaxing day although I might give this place a good cleaning in prep for Monday's inspection. I walked around outside yesterday, checking the house over, found one corner of one of my shutters was loose so fastened that down. Now will double check inside as well. Agent said my house is in good shape, so should be no problem. Also said inspector is not going to check my septic system since I had it cleaned and inspected last fall.

Enjoyed the horse stories yesterday. I too used to ride a lot when I was growing up and like all kids, wished for my own horse. There was a riding stable a few miles from here and when we used to come up here on weekends, dad would take me over there, so I could go on the trail rides.

Decided I am not cancelling out on my June camping reservations till I see what pans out with all this house business. If I should wind up buying the house next door, it won't take much to move over there from here. So maybe not need much time to vacate here. Neighbor is leaving on June 14th and my reservations are for June 19-21. Shall see. Could be tight or maybe not, who knows, plus I have 21 days to vacate anyway. Right now, hard to get excited about camping with possible snow flakes on the forecast

Enouht jabbering here. Starting to ramble on about nothing. So all I can say is Have a Nice Day.

Sue, so glad you're giving the Lake place a pass, must be disappointing, but probably better in the long run.

The horse stuff made me remember my 8th birthday, I came running home after school looking for the horse I just KNEW my parents had bought me, no horse in sight I went in and threw open the shower curtain because it just HAD to be there! It did not occur to my eight year old mind that we lived on a military base, we moved every single year, and my dad was heading back to Vietnam in a couple of months... of yes, of course there was a horse waiting for me.

Off to the antiques market this morning with old friends. No buying, but lots of looking! It's going to be a great day.

Good morning. Getting ready for the rain and no, can't say it! Knew I shouldn't put the shovels away! Actually, it shouldn't be much just don't want to see the frozen stuff! I only have one plant that the kids gave me for my birthday that I've been babying along. Covering and uncovering! So far it's survived!

Sue, sorry about the house. Sounds like a wise decision on your part though. Maybe things will work out for the house next door. That would be an easy move!

I went to Sam's Club yesterday and as usual got more then was on my list! Got the car a bath to get rid of the yellow pollen on it. I put it in the garage last night instead of leaving it out! I will be so glad when this part of spring is over! Lola will need a good bath too! At least this year she isn't sitting right under the trees.

Not much else happening here. Like Sue, can't get to excited about camping with all this cold weather. Last year at this time Carolb and I were up in Allegheny Forest enjoying the nice weather. Got colder at night but days were great. Hope you all have a good day and travel safe if you are on the road.

Good Morning All, I drove/pulled my new trailer home yesterday...During rush hour on the freeway! It is called "rush hour", but the traffic is moving quite slowly! I changed lanes without misshap too!
I too enjoyed the tales of horses. I was raised at the beach (Mission Beach), so did not have any exposure to horses. I was a very good swimmer, but am afraid of horses. Some night around the campfire ask me about renting horses.
My day will be filled with moving stuff into the trailer.

Lyn - congrats of the safe journey! I'm a water/beach person too, my horse fascination left as soon as we moved to the beach. :D

Good morning Everybody from a sunny, but cool CT.
Sue, sorry you're not getting the lake house, but that's a lot of repair work.
Sharon, I read weather updates that you and Sue post so I know what to expect. I found a nice young woman who will weed, so I am putting in a little vegetable garden again this year. Still trying to plan an outdoor sitting area.
Lyn, you go woman, right out there on the CA freeways. I try to read all the posts and keep up with what's happening, but I can't comment on everything. Enjoy today. Peggy

Good Morning Everyone !!! Loved reading about the horse stories, have loads of my own I could add, but like Lyn might make good campfire conversation and lots of laughs. Sue, sorry the lake house deal fell through, but there is a new home for you somewhere that will keep you busy getting it just the way you want it.

Yesterday was a bummer for me, I made several calls, have quite a few repairs on house, property and rv, and the calls I made I didn't like the answers or results of them, so kept myself and mind busy and today is better. Some of the yard problem is getting done, the whole back of my place had really grown, I can not walk back there, copperheads (lots) here in North Carolina, and I know they live out there :o  I have so much to pick up and take to burn pile, well it is out back and no way am I going to walk back there. Have trees to trim, one wants to rub my rv when I back out, couldn't do it, because what would I do with the mess from it. Well, called neighbor and left a msg and here is young guy with tractor, hopefully fixing one problem back there. They only mow some of the front , when I am gone and back needs to be done too each time. Hard to figure how to pay, for only part of a job, and then I have to pay bigger for tractor use, so puzzling over that while he works and hope the sister gets over with the lawn mower, half way to knees in front now too. A mess and I , who used to keep all this stuff up have no mower or means or able to do so much of this anymore. Disheartening, to say the least.

Now, some of you are saying time to downsize and move, But , Where ???? and How !! I've almost decided to get small storage for some things I feel I should keep. My huge problem is finding help to move such things as I would like to said storage  :D Then if I can't get a thrift shop, and I have tried, to come get the rest will leave it here for next owner and just leave and hopefully it will sell. I'm going through, seriously, small items that I can haul to thrift stores each trip into Murphy. but furniture will just be left. I know I am going to end up in Fl. where my DD lives or general area, not to bad down south of her, reminds me somewhat of the old Fl that was so pretty, area where I grew up and lived sooooo many years, breaks my heart to even visit there. Big problem is I don't want to live in Fl.!!!
Just went out to check on my bushhog job, well, now mower has to be run over whole area, still way to tall. I must get my mower fixed or running, whichever.

Guess I have set here and bellyached enough  time to get busy in here, and just hope other guy I have called makes it here at least by first of week. He was painting a huge house just a ways from me, and hopefully I am next on his list. So with fingers crossed and determination I will get to doing what I can to make this day worthwhile.

Its beautiful outside, little coolish and going to be even cooler tonight but that's ok. My heater isn't working another call to make, I do have my gas fireplace. Oh well on to what I can do.
Have a great day everyone, I know others are having worse days then I am, so I will try to enjoy my day and I know all this crap will work itself out :D

stay safe all, Enjoy your day,
CArol

Good morning gals! Cold and sunny today. Am working all day so doesnt matter to me. MN fishing opener today so might be quiet around here.

I started English riding lessons when i was about 8 years old. My dad wouldnt buy me a horse so i rode the school horses. I loved jumping a lot more than dressage and was good at it and did well in shows. I had to quit riding when i was 17 and went to live with my mom. I tried to get back in to it about 10 years ago but decided i am too old for competition. Would still like to get a horse someday just for pleasure riding.
We had a neighbor who bought a pony for her daughters 2nd birthday. The lady asked if i would ride the pony to keep it exercized. I rode Blacky every day that whole summer and we had so much fun. We formed a really close bond. The lady replaced him with a bigger pony the next year. I was heartbroken. The new pony was nasty and i refused to ride her.

Fun to reminisce! Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It is really brisk here this morning. Actually down right cold out there, 53 with a strong north wind! But, DH and I will still go out for strawberry shortcake and ice cream at one of the local orchards. Will go again during peach and apple season for cobbler and ice cream. Anyone who comes to the GTG, this place is close enough for a visit. :)

CArol there are several people here who will come in and clear your place out and take to an auction house or tag everything with a a price and have an on site sale. Or could you take out a few things you want to save, call your kids and tell them to come pick out what they want? Then just walk away from the rest, put up a for sale sign and take off in your RV to look for a place where lawn service is provided. I haven't opened many boxes in our basement since I moved here 18 years ago. I neither know or care what is in them now. It sounds like you are totally overwhelmed with trying to take care of your property. I understand it is very hard to get people to work and those that will, are swamped with calls.

Sue, glad to hear you walked away from the lake house, sounded as though it was a total rehab and no telling what might have been missed on the inspection. I'm sure you will find something you like and in the meanwhile, if needed, you can travel around and look for that perfect place in your tiny house on wheels. :)

Oh, Mickie, sorry about your missing horse on your 8th birthday! You must have cried all day.

And, Carol, I hope things work out with all your yard stuff and RV. Getting rid of stuff is hard. I wish I had gotten rid of more stuff than I did because since then I have given a lot of it to my son and am hoping I can get a consignment shop to take some other stuff. August is going to be my cleaning out the storage time. I hope to get it down to 10 boxes.

Still having back problems if i do much walking and standing. I guess I should not have been so ambitious a few days ago and tried to wash my rig by myself. Getting on the ladder to do windows did not help either. So yesterday, I just stayed home all day, but today I am going out and doing some more sightseeing at this grandest of all canyons. I had hoped to get my bike out, but I think that will be postponed. Will ride the shuttles instead.

Laptop is on a truck in Flagstaff and will be out for delivery on Monday morning.

Good Afternoon,
Sue, I think you have made a wise decision though a place on the lake would be nice. CArol, sorry things are overwhelming! I can come help in October, but contrary to what I say in Arizona, I do not want to see snakes! Lyn, congrats on getting the trailer moved - I went through that in the Seattle area a couple of times! Nikki, I love your take on things!

I don't expect to be this cold in Kansas at this time of year! Crazy weather still.

It was a joy last night to attend the high school concert! Three of my grands (2 here, 1 in Washington) are so grown up - nostalgia time. Grandson Spencer, the graduate this year, plays sax, sings in the choir (very brief solo) and played conga drums for one number. Granddaughter Sophie (junior) played a beautiful flute solo. They both carry heavy subjects so I'm glad they have time for their music. Sophie has been told by the doctor she can't lifeguard this year due to being in the sun and some of her meds for Crohn's. :(

JudyJB, uncle does have dementia and only real sign is repetition of questions. He definitely knew who I was because yesterday he told my aunt, 'Anita doesn't need to come see me.' He's mad at the world and probably especially that I'm here and he isn't.

While my aunt visits at the nursing home, I'll visit a step aunt in her apartment nearby. Tonight will be cousin night on the other side of the family for a little girl's birthday. Hmmm, guess I better find a card for some cash!

Make the most of your day and be safe!!

Not morning any more, but first chance I've had to post. Crazy weather all around. Thunder is booming and dogs are panting and whimpering and as close to me on the bed as they can get. I join the chorus that you're better off without that house, Sue. Sounds like you have a good realtor. And the other chorus congratulating Lynn on the safe arrival of her new TT. It should bring you many years of joy and frustration. Lots of entertaining horse stories, some more dignified than others....ahem. Carol, I too am sorry that you've joined so many of us in the frustrations of downsizing, or wanting to downsize. How? Where? Overwhelm. Yep, very familiar. Anita, sounds like you are enjoying your family. Big hugs or hearty handshakes to all.

Thunder passed. Dogs asleep. Oops. Guess not. Kaboom! and the sky opens.

It's coming summer here. I was going to walk down to the pond about noon but had a better idea when I stepped outside. It's 92 in the shade. I decided to go get some potting soil. I ran out yesterday when I was trying to repot something. I think I have been to town almost every day this week.

I think I had just as soon go through Houston during rush hour when everyone is doing 40 or less than when everyone is doing 70. It's ok if there isn't a wreck. I have never checked the milage but it seems like 100 miles from when you get into heavy traffic and come out the other side. Some people complain about Baton Rouge but that is nothing if you don't try to do it on a holiday weekend. I'm sure none of this is as bad as California traffic.

I had a collection of horse figurines that I loved. My favorite was a white horse that was about a foot tall. I think it was an advertisement for some kind of liquor. My brother would hide my horses just to be mean. My sister says he hid her dolls. He was a little s**t.

Nikki, if you are getting storms I guess they will be here tomorrow.

Hi all,
Just dropping in for a minute...
Sue, good decision on the house - the right one will show up when you least expect it.
Lyn, wow! you continue to amaze me. Hauling that new trailer on the highway & thru rush hour (although I prefer to drive busy highways when they're going slow)
CArol, You've got a big task ahead of you - I BJ's idea - we can all come out & help! It'd be a blast! I'll be doing the same when I go back to KS in July or Aug - deciding if I sell or rent the place - but either way, it needs to be claared out & fixed up.
No horse stories from me - but I can only imagine how disappointing for an 8-year to expect one & not get it.
Anita, enjoy your family time & cool weather. I loved see your progression across the country - dreaming of the day I can do the same.
JudyB, hope that laptop finally gets to you. I spilled coffee on my work laptop this morning. (should teach me not to try to work on Saturdays) - I'm hoping fast action saved it from major damage. Although it's functioning & passed all the diagnostics, Dell still wants me to send it in to be looked at (thankful for complete care :)) I'm checking with work on Monday to see what they can send out to me to use while mine gets checked out - the keyboard probably needs to be replaced but hopefully that's it.

Well, better get back to cleaning - hoping everyone stays safe & enjoys what's left of today.
