Thursday, May 12th

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday, May 12th

Postby Colliemom » Thu May 12, 2016 7:28 am

Morning,

I need a reality check here, so posted the date for all of us who need it too. Been so busy with so much going on, know what day it is, but couldn't remember the date  Life comes at ya fast sometimes ya know.

Had a wonderful afternoon yesterday. Spent it with friends who came up to look over my kitchen table. They want it. The we talked about the lake house and went down to look at it. After that off to town for lunch, errand and some grocery shopping before they dropped me off at home and headed home themselves. They live about a half hour south. Was nice being out with them and enjoying having somebody else do the driving for a change . When one is alone, one doesn't get that chance often as those of us who are only drivers know. The girls go a short walk and a chance to go play with doggie friend yesterday while I visited with their owner and then we stopped for a lake wade on way home. The spring hatch of mosquito's is occuring and they are getting pesky especially this morning as it's a bit humid and calm. That time of year.

Received the inspection report back and it has more issues in it, nothing really major, but adding up. Some are safety concerns. Seriously thinking of walking away from this house, lake or no lake. It would be a good place for somebody who has more capital than i have and is looking for a renovation fixer upper. Some of issues are electrical in nature and would require an electrician, some a brick mason, plumbers, crawl space insulation contractor etc. etc. i don't want to be on a lake that bad that i need to spend all my time gettng all that taken care of. After reading the report, I am sure that the inspection of my home on Monday is going to reveal a couple of the issues in venting, because I know they were installed that way, but it's no big deal. A lot of home have vents from bathroom fans and even stove vent fans which just go up into the attic. This is not good as it can cause moisture and eventually lead to mold. They should be extended to vent outside. I think mine are into attic too, but like I said, it's minor stuff. Sp will probably be thinking up a Plan B here. BJ, saw your comment on buying turn key. Yes, that's a good way to do it. However it doesn't mean that there won't be problems there either. Even a new place can have issues if there is shoddy workmanship, defects in materials etc. etc. But it is easier to just move in and settle. I can buy my neighbors house next door and have nothing to do except move in and then repaint, recarpet or whatever I desire. Don't like the blue house color as I am not a fan of blue, so would have that changed too. It too eventually needs a new roof, but not an immediate issue.

I need to attend a seminar from our Commission on Aging today. Blue Cross is going to be making some changes and I understand that the policy that I have is going to be discontinued or something, so all of us who have it are going to this meeting. They are going to explain what is going to be taking place, the options we will have and I don't know what else. Called yesterday to remind me and said to bring paper and pencil. So guess I am going to a classroom lecture like in the college days  Couple hours this afternoon. So will make up my meatloaf this morning and put it in the refrig, so when I get home, can just shove it in the oven and let it cook.

Sounds like the rest of you are doing okay, getting gardens ready, maybe getting ready to or wish you were hitting the road etc. Don't remember what all I read yesterday. So guess I will just let it go at that and go wash my hair and putter around this morning. Don't have much to do in here for the time being. Weather is supposed to be a little wet later today and the next few days have chances of showers on and off. Tomorrow is Friday already and Molly is heading to groomer for a good bath.

Have a nice day all, if you are in areas where there are storms, be safe, on the road, enjoy your travels, working, well what can I say. :)

Good Morning,

It's going to be a beautiful day so I'll get the chores done I planned yesterday - truck wash, laundry, a couple of errands. Another issue with the dang trailer - one tire seems to be 'leaning'. Afraid of what it might be.

Yesterday was a mixed day. Aunt and I went to see uncle in nursing home for rehab. He is not a happy camper, but I was totally surprised by his reaction to me. We had our afternoon beer routine last year and when I would leave, he always wanted to know when I'd be back. Yesterday he asked my aunt why she didn't come alone! I won't be going back except for his birthday or when my cousin is going to be there. Apparently uncle doesn't act up around him. You gals who are dealing with difficult dads, I know it's rough and I saw it first hand yesterday.

I finally sent my daughter a message (the one here who is ticked at me again) about the high school awards last evening. Guess they weren't even planning to go. My aunt and I went because of course she knows other families in the area. Guess I spurred my daughter on because the whole family showed up! My grandson got several awards so I was glad we went - mostly scholastic. Beforehand there was a display of student art work and my granddaughter had several drawings on display. Friday evening will be their music concert.

Sue, I'm sorry the house on the lake is turning out to be such a list of problems!

2nd cup is gone so I'll get with it. Make the most of your day and be safe!

Have been reading but not posting for a while. We are on the road in our new smaller Class C RV. It is a 29 foot with a back bedroom slide and two slides in the living area. It is taking some getting used to. When we get home there will be a lot of re arranging to do. Or maybe sooner if things continue to make noise or be in inconvenient places. We are in Williams, AZ - elevation 6500 - so haven't done too much. Today we are headed to Monument Valley, UT - one of our most favorite places. Weather is beautiful. In Vegas it is already in the HIGH 90s.
I also have changed the URL of my blog it is now - seeings how we no longer live in Brown County http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/
This is just a short trip to get things set up. Have spent most of the time since we've been home from Mexico running to doctors. Not fun.
Any way Hi to all the new comers and to all our "old" friends.

Sue, sorry for all the ups and downs. The lake house does sound like a larger bite than you might want to chew. Just sticking my 2 cents in, but you say you have considered storing things and living full time in the trailer. Perhaps you could do that for a short time and see if another house on the lake might go on the market later in the season. I just wonder if there are all those problems that can be seen now, what hidden problems will you discover later? I had home inspections on a couple of places I was serious about and still discovered issues after I moved in on the one I bought.

May is moving right along and tomorrow is going to be Friday the 13th. I have to bring Harold for his checkup in Opelousas tomorrow. I would rather stay home on Friday. It seems that everyone getting off work for the week is crazy.

Carol, I'm sure changing from a Class A to a Class C will take some getting use to. When your engine is almost in your lap is a lot noisier. Something is always rattling in mine but some of it is due to our bad roads. I probably should get more of the shelf liner to pad some of the cabinets. My microwave has a metal shelf and sometimes it gets so bad I have to take the shelf out. Probably a good thing it's not glass.

I filled up the Hummingbird feeder yesterday and didn't see one bird yesterday and this morning. Harold says the neighbors have a lot of birds at their feeder. I think my neighbors stole my birds.

I might go by Chase and see what happened to the checks they were suppose to order for me over a month ago. I have had nothing but trouble with them. The only reason I have a Chase account is because the bank has changed hands so many times over the years.

Good Morning All, WOW, Sue. That house on the lake sounds like trouble! The only way I would buy it is if he owners would lower the price drasticly to cover all the repairs and cleaning out of junk. That's just my opinion. I know whatever you decide will be the best decision for you...

Tomorrow is the day I pick up the new trailer! I'm excited, scared, overwhelmed.

My daughter, with whom I am living, gets mad at me too, Anita. I think I must be annoying her in some way. I know she is depressed about the loss of her husband. I suggested she "talk" with her doctor about her depression...that was the wrong thing to say! Her husband, a "house husband" was a meticulous house keeper....I'm not that way at all...that is part of the problem, altho I'm trying!

Good morning, all.

Sue. It sure is a good thing that you're discovering so many of the house's issues now, before you've handed over your hard earned cash. And you know there'll be more repairs down the road because for every one you've found there are two you haven't....yet. And it only gets worse. Just my experience. Yep, mosquitoes are on the move. Six bites on one leg.

Anita, sounds like you have some talented grandchildren. That must be a real joy.

Assirimarco, feels odd to say it because you've been here so much longer than I have, but it is nice to see you in MC. Sorry about the need for Dr. visits. Glad to see you and DH in one of your favorite places.

Slowly but surely I'm emptying out the house. Progress is counted in items, not rooms, not yet. Yesterday six more pieces of clothing jumped into the donation bag. Of course I also placed an Amazon order for an over the door mirror and a microwave egg cooker. (Curse you, Mitch. Curse you and your fascinating gadgets! ) Same old story: three steps forward, two steps back. Maybe it's just one step. Yeah, just one step. Soldier on.

Martha and Lynn cut in line ahead of me. Don't tell anyone, but that's just how they are. Evil line cutter inners! Hah! You've been unmasked! Ahem, down girl. Obviously, but not so straight forward, I agree with Lynn about Sue's lake house. Run, Sue. Run like the wind.

Martha....Hi! Sounds like life as usual. Neighbors steal birds. It's a known fact.

Who put stupid juice in my coffee? Time to go.

Ladies, stay safe and tail up.

Sue, sounds like you have a lot to consider. I know you love to putter with projects but these might be a bit overwhelming. Any chance the house could be torn down and build a new one there? I suppose that would be very expensive but would last a long time and be worth a lot more down the road.

Cloudy and windy today. Not sure what I will do. I think I need to get outside tho. Have been feeling very tired and depressed lately, and hanging out in my apartment all day isn't helping. Have a meeting tonight with my brothers to figure out what to do about our dad. That whole thing is weighing me down.

Hope you all have a good day...

Sitting here in my recliner looking out my front window at the next door neighbors. About half of the motorhomes here at Grand Canyon are rentals, many European. Anyway, there is about 10 feet in front of my rig, so of course, they use it as a path to the restroom, even though these are all full hookups here at Trailer Village! The worst thing is that they look in my front windshield window, literally staring, as they walk by, as if they want to know who is inside and what I am doing. They need to post a campground etiquette sheet in these rental units!

OK, I will get over it, especially as they are leaving. I ordered a new camera and it is waiting for me at the local post office here, so I will go out exploring later. I have been here several times, but it is still a "grand" place. Want to do some bike riding tomorrow.

Computer is still in Ohio but heading back to Memphis, hopefully to be shipped via air this time. Might be here tomorrow.

Sue, I agree with the head for the hills comment. And Chalet, maybe your uncle has the beginning of dementia. He may be slightly paranoid and also sometimes might not realize who you are.

Good morning :D
Sue, doesn't the seller have to take care of the major stuff? I always thought
that's how it worked, if they want to sell. The mortgage companies won't
approve it. Other issues seem so minor and more of a personal preference
thing.
Upper 90's today and triple digits next couple of days.
Trip to dog park yesterday with daughter , Gs and pup. Pup is growing fast
and such a handsome guy. ( a flash red boxer) Then an invite
for a taco dinner. My sarcastic side of me wanted to say its not Tuesday, but I didn't.
Daughter doesn't appreciate my sarcastic humor. So, we had taco Tuesday on a
Wednesday
Nothing else is new for me, 10 school days left.

And, Sue, shouldn't all those major things have been listed on the disclosure sheet? I remember putting even little things down on that and thought it was a legal requirement to disclose problems especially if they were structural and hidden. It would bother me that none of that was listed.

Also a lot of places in Michigan on lakes were built as cottages and did not go through permits and inspections way back then because they were seasonal and building codes were not so strictly enforced.
