Sue, I've never had the pleasure of meeting you, but always read your openings most mornings to Morning Coffee. So I've been following the story about your house sale and the offer you made on another. I'm sure we all here hope it all works out well for you. I just have to say that the number of things that have been determined so far that need fixing seem quite daunting in terms of time, expense and inconvenience. And those are just the ones discovered so far. I know you say its location on the lake appeals to you a lot, but I don't think you should let that over-shadow all the work it needs. In addition there's all the stuff from the previous owner that you'd have to go through and get rid of in some way. I wasn't going to comment because I was worried about "pouring water" on your dream of the house. But, here I am doing just that but only because I care and hope you won't rush into something that could end up being a money pit. I suppose they could lower their price, but even in that instance there would be all the time, inconvenience and the possibility more problems may become evident. Please don't get me wrong. I only want whatever you choose to be the best choice for you. Good luck!

Just and FYI for anyone who needs to clear out "stuff" they are not interested in.....When I had my father's house and workshop cleaned out before the property went on the market. I called my brother and my niece (she and her family had been living in the house for two years and when they moved out She had left piles and boxes of stuff that she was going to go through and clean out "later," and her husband had all his tools. Later never did come after three months. After some gentle reminders of the need to clean up so the property could go on the market I called Got-Junk or a similar company and set a date. Told family that anything not picked up and carried out would be removed. My brother, my nephew and myself worked all one day placing "stuff" in piles. Some of my dad's workshop "stuff" (most of the tools and cabinets had already been distributed) went home with my brother. My brother made a pile for my niece and I took a small selection home. For $500. two very strong men carried everything else out the a very good sized truck (including the old piano). The men also very carefully sweep the basement floors, etc. and sweep out the now empty cabinets on the car port. When the property sold, I climbed in my RV and headed to Florida. I had cleaned up my portion and didn't feel at all guilty for the remaining belongs that had to be cleared out by my brother and niece......

But the truck and two strong men were not as expensive as I had thought and it was completed in half a day and cleaner and neater that I had seen it in years. They said that they turn useful furniture and equipment to non-profits organizations. But, truth was, I didn't worry about it too much. Neither my brother, who is 4 years older than I, nor myself had make a thousand trips up and down stairs or back and forth to the truck. All we had to do was point to the right pile. Our both our backs still worked at the end of the day. :)

That is what we plan to do with my dad's house someday. For $500 you just let them clear everything out for you (after taking what you want beforehand). Much easier than doing it yourself or having a sale. We just want it done and over with as fast as possible! It is called 1-800-GOT-JUNK
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
