Judy - will agree with Velda - try ice and/or alternate ice and heat. What I was told was that ice shrinks inflamation and heat might add to swelling. Works and worth a try!!

Thanks, I have been using the heating pad. I have strong feelings about chiropractors, so even though I know others like them, I use only medical doctors. Luckily, I have taken flexeril before and it does not knock me out. I just have to be careful to take a low dose and only at night and when I am not driving or doing other such things.

Muscle is getting a little better each day and I am cutting back on my driving.

Was just checking in for afternoon, and read what was said about Barbaras situation with her Dad. I know very little about elder law but I don't think it matters that your brother is The one with power of attorney. A Dr can declare someone incompetent and I'm pretty sure anyone involved can petition court to have him put under guardian and if the one he chose is not doing that job, that person can lose decision making power via court. Talk to his Dr and a state legal advocate for elderly. Also make sure you protect yourself as you don't need something to happen and be found to be part of a neglect charge. Authorities need to see you did all you can do as well as your siblings. Praying for you each day.

Judy, I trained as a nurse under a system which all but called chiropractors witch doctors. Then one day I injured my back picking up my baby ( the one who turns 36 in two weeks) and hurt myself so bad that I ended up crawling through sharp gravel holding my baby under my body to get to house and phone, from out front. I was crying when Mel raced home. We had Champus military insurance but nearest Dr I could see with insurance was 60 miles away. Mel drug me kicking and screaming to the chiropractor he had already seen. I could barely make it to the office from car. I walked out of the chiropractors office standing up and only a little sore. But it was at least 10 years larger before I really came to change my thinking. I now know what they can help with and what they can't. It's been lifechanging for my bad neck arthritis and mild scoliosis . My chiropractor has enabled me to be drug free and surgery free. Regular Drs have suggested both as only solution. A couple of years ago I began having episodes of numbness in my left jaw. Immediately I thought heart attack or stroke, even though the episodes only lasted seconds. Dr could not see me until next day but I had a chiropractor appointment that afternoon. He witnessed one of the episodes. He freaked, took my BP and did a neuological exam. Finding nothing he said see the Dr next morning. At Dr EKG was run. It was normal. Then I was sent for a ultrasound of my neck and other tests. All negative. Dr did not know what to say. I took results which had actually confirmed the neck arthritis and nothing else. In fact said my arteries were cleanest they had seen in someone my age. Chiropractor began treating my neck. Immediately the numbness episodes began getting less. Within a day they stopped and have not returned. I can tell when my neck is out and I go see my chiropractor and am good again. No pain meds, occasional ice packs. All I can tell you is, there is value in correct treatment by a good chiropractor which no MD is knowledgable about nor qualified to do. I would prefer no drugs and no surgery when it makes sense and works for me.

I can't comment on the doctor vs. chiropractor except that my parents would only go to an osteopath and would never go to a chiropractor. But I just want to say just be careful that you don't mix some medications together. It seems when we hear about deaths of some movie stars, singers etc. often it's because they mistakenly or on purpose took opiod medications along with things like Xanax. I don't know whether there's any danger of mixing flexiril with other medications, but seems we should always be careful and ask our doctors if there's any danger if we're thinking of combining any together.

Remember Chiropractors ARE Doctors. They are Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine. Then there are MDs- Medical Doctors and Doctors of Osteopathy. All are Doctors in their fields. Different specialties for different treatments.

Former paramedic here and mom was an RN, BIG time anti-chiropractic. Now I work at a chiropractic college and cannot believe what these young people have to know, and in many ways it exceeds what med school covers. Still was leery about trying it but my job offers unlimited chiro-care as part of the benefits, started last week and am amazed at how much better I feel. My out of control asthma was being heavily impacted by muscle spasms in my ribs and mid back, two sessions and I can breathe much deeper.

Thankfully, this works for me, I was getting very tired of every MD visit being "let's do more surgery, or hey, here's another pill for you".

My husband saw a chiropractor for years for his back and he helped him. That chiropractor passed away and Harold didn't see one for years. The year he had his knees replaced there was a chiropractor in the same office as the physical therapist so Harold saw him for his shoulder. That guy ended up hurting him and he hasn't gotten over it yet. I have never see a chiropractor but I would have to have many recommendations before I would see one. I have a friend that hurt her back as a teenager and she sees one regularly to keep from having back surgery. I would consider seeing the one my friend goes to but none of the other ones in town.

I haven't been to a chiropractor but like Martha I would need to have a lot of recommendations if I did see one. Probably I would go to a Osteopath though. However, I highly believe in trying an alternative method first if available,

For myself, I go to for acupuncture to a Chinese woman who trained in China as a medical doctor and also trained there for acupuncture. If I had done what the medical doctors suggested instead of doing acupuncture I would be on at least 3 medications. She also worked on a nerve pain that the dentist said took many months to hopefully resolve, it took her 3 sessions and I was and remain pain free.

To keep me going, I do self-hypnosis and reike on myself, have a massage, from a well trained massage therapist, twice a month, do yoga, and watch my weight by eating mostly real food and not possessed foods.
I believe a lot of people, not just seniors, are suffering by taking too much medicine because many doctors do not suggest diet changes and exercise instead, they just hand out pills or suggest surgeries.

I was going to edit but think I'll just leave it at possessed instead of processed, Maybe it should be called Frankenstein Food

I'm with you, BJ. That possessed food will get you every time. Gotta love auto correct. Thanks for the giggle.
Guess I'll go over to today's thread and rant. Would hate to rant where no one will read it.
