Thank you everyone. It's been a strange day. Have talked to sister in law several times. Mel has brokered a reconciliation between his sister, and our younger son. The younger son has offered to fly from Minnesota to Oklahoma and represent our side of the family and has been asked to stay at sister in laws home. That's a huge leap and it's just too bad it took this to make it happen. It will be a beautiful military honors burial as they lay to rest one of the remaining WWII Purple Heart veterans, who we called Dad/ Grandpa/ Great grandpa. Now to get through Thursday until Mel's ear surgery for tube placement on Friday. On the good side, today he took vision and written test to renew his license. I may be running out of excuses to hang onto the steering wheel as I've done since his first surgery nearly 3 years ago. And I picked up my new glasses from Costco and it's a huge improvement.
Appreciate everyone sending thoughts and wishes. It's been a tough day. Even when you know it's coming it's not easy. I guess we lose our 40 year status as the California kids now that we are suddenly the elder generation.

Tough news, and even tougher when you can't be there. (((Hugs))) and prayers for you and the family. Also pray that Mel's mass is benign.

so sorry Velda to hear the news about Mel's father and that of a new mass...prayers that your family
find peace and comfort and that this mass isn't bad...good luck with the tube ..is it similar to the tubes

Yes Sheila, it's a PE tube like they put in children's ears, only sized for adult. I told him he's going back to his second childhood! they put one in left ear in fall of 2013, 6 mo after his original surgery and it's still there. I did not like that they do it in office without much pain relief but that's the way they do it, outpatient in office. I dread this. Fortunately Mel does not recall how awful it was first time. I do and told the senior resident he had better do a better job with pain relief or I'm not going to be happy.

So sorry to hear of this latest news and also of Mel's ear issue. I had a friend who has tubes in her ears too and she's in her late 60's. Hope and pray and all goes well and it's nothing really serious.
