Quaking Aspen Tree

I just think this picture is pretty. I took it at the Smokey the Bear park - and I didn't know that the Aspens are called Quaking Aspens.

I just love the aspens, we had a few groves of them at our cabin in colorado.
Each little grove is all connected, the roots send out runners under the soil and
another tree pops up from that. It won't be long and those will start showing
leaves.

They are called Quaking Aspen because of the unique leaf structure. The leaves have square stems and are hinged so that with the slightest breeze they quiver. At Kaibab Lodge we have a cabin that is set in its own grove of Aspens. I'll take a series of photos at each seasons change. I took a Fall one last year and it is framed and hung in the Lodge.

Aspen are very pretty trees, cousins of the cottonwood and birch. Thier fall color in the high country is legendary! There used to be groves of Aspen here but we've not seen any for years. I fully intend to reintroduce Aspen to our property.

I just remembered I had the Fall photo of the Deerview Cabin.

Quakies are about the only broadleaf tree I knew growing up we had lots of them. And they are so pretty the leaves just shimmer when they are moving

WOW!! Spectacular picture! And where is that Deerview cabin?? It looks like my kind of spot, for sure!

Soos, that's one of the cabins at Kaibab Lodge where I work in the summer. It's on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Beautiful fall pic of the aspens, Sparkle. It's my goal to go west to see them that time of year someday.

What a beautiful spot...guess I might have to travel out there and see that place. Are there any camping sites there, too?

Right down the road from us there is BLM land. You can camp for free. There is a campground next to the Lodge, but it costs 18.00 for drycamping. Doesn't make sense to me. I usually whisper advice to people who comne into the Lodge asking about the campground.

I really need to start a book of sites I want to visit when I get free. I keep saying this, but so far, have done nothing about it!
