For our trip to Big Bend, we actually stayed in Terlingua Texas which was an experience all by itself.

It sounds like you are having a wonderful family trip Colleen. I noticed in the cemetery picture near the back were odd looking forms that were shaped like igloos. Were those also graves? Made me think of all the books I've read about the settlers moving west and how they buried the dead along the trails and covered the graves with rocks.

Yes, B.J. those were also grave markers with a low stone fence around them. I think the black part was a marker. It is very definitely a unique cemetery with both old and new graves in it. There were also way too many graves of young people in there. There was recently a TV series show on about a murder in Terlingua. I missed it but my kids followed the episodes because it had actual Terlingua residents in it and my son and husband were down there in November on their motorcycles. A bar owner and longtime resident was killed over a local issue. We saw his grave there too.

I always tell people to visit there. I enjoyed my short time there. And enjoyed your post about it.
