Wet Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wet Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Mar 09, 2016 7:51 am

Rainy morning here in northern MI. Foggy too. Snow is going slow but sure. Bare ground showing here and there. Dirty mess out there. Piper is having fun checking out and finding things as the snow melts. Two balls have reappeared so far.

Had an interesting day yesterday. Voted in the morning, then came home, got back into cleaning again. Took a few things down to basement and found little puddle on floor. Leak in water line running from my Pump to pressure tank. Little leaks can become big leaks if not stopped, so called my HVAC/Plumbing folks. Sent somebody out. Seal around pipe connection going, need to replace a section of the pipe, but don't have any with him. Has to go get some. Fortunately I happen to have short lengths of it from some of my projects and just happened to have a couple connectors. Got it all repaired :) Had to stop on my wall washing too as no water while he was doing that. By then, dog walking time. On way back in house afterwards, knob on storm door came off, so took latch off and fixed that. Screw came loose. Has done it before. So one minor repair, one bill, and one dog walk, end of day. Today, back to work.

Martha, am watching the weather and see you are getting lot of rain down there. Hope you haven't had to buy a kayak yet. Judy, you should have GS roadside, they could have sent somebody to you. Ava, have a great time on your adventure. Also tracking weather because cousin and wife on way to TX and heading right into that stormy mess. Stopped in Arkansas last night. Warned then to check weather ahead as cuz is one of those get from one point to another ASAP and will drive for hours. As was they left at 3:30 a.m. To start out :o Told him he's retired, got all the time in the world.

GypsyRose, see you are headed to IL GTG too. Hopefully we can meet this summer sometime too.

Time to get moving. Back to cleaning. Hope to finish walls this morning and then tackle last closet and kitchen cupboards. Have a good day everyone, keep safe in the storm and rain areas.

Wicked Wednesday

Postby Birdie » Wed Mar 09, 2016 7:53 am

Morning ladies! We had some nice rain, thunder and lightening last night and a little more on the way today! Tent campers next door are probably dry but bet they aren't happy. Took a walk along the beach yesterday and then a quick run to grocery for milk. Nice to hear the ocean roaring in the distance. Time to sip on that coffee. On the road, be safe. Sitting in a cg have fun.

Cheryl, Whooping Cranes normally travel in family groups. You mostly probably saw Sandhills as they travel in large groups. Sandis are on migration, but the Texas Whoopers most probably won't head out for another 2-3 weeks. Whoopers are mostly white and Sandis are mostly gray.

Gmorning all:)

Two openers today, but posting here...Yep, between visiting Lyn, Catherine, sister, cousin, & reading the book Lyn gave me, exploring Death Valley, & a trip into Pahrump to visit Patty--yes, I've been "lost" in the desert! Having an absolutely wonderful time!

Glad to hear that spring seems to be making an appearance for so many, & now all the summer travel plans getting closer to reality.

Funny thing: driving from Havasu to Parker yesterday, I was stuck in construction traffic. Noticed a SS about 10 cars ahead--yep, Anita! All morning I had contemplated calling her to see if she'd be in the area, but my "schedule" was so up in the air. Anyway, we had a great but short visit in the WM parking lot:)

Have appts for Ape & Tigg to have teeth cleaned by "Doggie Dental" in Blythe on Friday, so I'm hanging here in the desert. Then I'll head back to Mesa... don't know which "camp driveway" I'll be in when I get there ;) Alice/Honey, you got yourself a good guy!

Okay, need to pay bills now. Y'all have a great day & be safe always

Good Morning,
What a small world! Carolb stuck in construction and seeing Anita! So glad you got to gtg even for a short time. Wondering what this book is that Lyn gave you. I just finished listening to Free Air by Sinclair Lewis and enjoyed it to the point of missing a few hours sleep. I love the free books on the Audible App, it's a bit of a pain if you don't upgrade but I can live with the constant blurb at the beginning of each chapter.
Spring is coming on too fast and I'm sure all the orchard owners are very nervous. Tulip Magnolia trees are bursting into bloom and the weather says heavy rain for several days. I picked a bunch of the neighbors Easter flowers, neighbors are gone so I'm sure they won't mind. :)
Should walk another dog before the rain...

Good Morning !! I could have used a more restful night, but here is the day with many things to do. Have had a sick grandson home this week, think he is better. Had to drag him with me down to shopping center to run gen, as I stayed in DDs drive too long and ole grump across the road didn't dare crank it up there, as it is I have to take up both spaces in front of garage at back of house and DD and GS have to park in big circle drive in front. It works but no gen or electric there.

Not sunny today, but that's ok, probably hurt my poor ole tired eyes :D hoping everyone else has a great day, know mine will improve as time goes by, always does.

Need to run into store, make it short this morning. Sure a lot of traffic on hwy 60. I know Strawberry Festival has started might be reason for some of it. Hoping I can get fresh ones soon.

Stay Safe , Have a Great Day !!!

Good morning Everybody from the beautiful state of Florida. The sun is shining, but the wind is still a blowing! Birdie, I was driving hard to get in front in those storms. Sorry, to have missed you, but we decided to avoid Spring break on the beaches. I had a wonderful visit with Martha in Abbeville. Picked up Spanish moss, some home canned figs and lots of beans and rice. I'm a happy camper. We had a nice gtg with Carolyn at Indulge, and indulged we did with Hugh pieces of cake. I'm sending a photo to Beth and asking her to post in the gtg section so you can drool. Enjoy today. Peggy

Good morning. No storms here today but sure is windy and air so full of pollen that my sun glasses need window wipers! Needless to say, it is going to be a very low step count day. . At least some of my afternoon needs to be devoted to getting what dust and pollen I can out of rig. Anyone have a recommendation for a hand held van with good suckion and attachments?
CArol, hope your GS is doing much better.
Peggy, I assume you are just skimming north FL on your way home but if you are going to be in FL a while let me know. I'm in Melbourne for a few more days, then will start slow track northward.

Got my new tire yesterday to replace the one with the slit--hated spending the money, but tires are really important. Then picked up a small crock pot to cook a brisket in. Can you believe I have never owned a crock pot? And then got myself some Boston Chicken and headed back to campground--long drive to get all this stuff, so hoping not to have to move for a few days.

Am at Gilbert Ray campground west of Tucson--only $20 per day for electric, and best part is that it is within bike riding distance to Sonoran Desert Botanical Garden and Old Tucson. Going to ride to the desert garden today and then Old Tucson tomorrow. Actually, I could walk the half-mile to the latter, but will probably ride my bike as my energy level is still low from being sick. I did lose three pounds, which is nice.

So, got to run. Only going to get up to about 74 today, which is perfect for walking around a hot garden!! Usually I have been there when it was in upper 80s and even once many years ago with son, who would not tell me how hot it was. Turned out to be 105! He spend a summer working for the US Wildlife Department doing vegetation surveys on Mount Lemmon in about 1996. Lived in a tent area with 5 other college students at 8,500 feet so not hot up there, but down in Tucson was really HOT when I visited him!

The rain hasn't gotten here yet but the wind sure has. The line of rain is from the state line in the South and angled across the middle of the state. The front is moving slow so where it is raining they are getting a lot. I was carrying my umbrella this morning but I don't think I could have held on to it if I had opened it. The weather channel is showing the South Texas coast and it is a mess where the water is washing over the road. If I had thought about it I would have driven down to Intracoastal City when I came home. I bet there is some coastal flooding because the wind is blowing so hard from the South.

I got up at 6:00 this morning because I had to do some blood work and wanted to get that over with so I could have coffee. Then went to Lafayette for my scans. The bone density scan is probably a wast of time because I don't know that I would take the medicine for that. The doctor suggested the twice a year shot. I just don't see how that could help build bone.

Judy, glad you got your tire fixed and the cut was on the outside so you could see it. On my last trip to Texas I had a slow leak on one of the inside dual tires so every couple of days I would have to put a little air in it. I just hate to have to find a tire place on the road. When we got home I had it looked at and I had a big slit in the side wall. We were darn lucky to make it home on that tire.

Martha, I have a small lighted mirror that my son got me. The idea was to use it to check the inside duallies and inside of front tires, but it does not work very well because the mirror is so small. I am considering the lighted cameras that Camping WOrld sells, but they are $125, which is a lot of money.

The thing is that my slit was very small. The slit like you had was much worse than mine because it was bigger and already leaking a bit. You indeed were lucky. Having already had two sidewall blowouts two years ago, I can tell you they are very scary--huge explosion followed by vibration, and that was for a rear dually. Front tire could easily cause the driver to lose control, causing a crash or running off the road. So, based on all of that, $125 doesn't seem too expensive. But the monitor on the one CW sells is also small, so I just don't know.

I have thought of getting a tire monitor, but those are really, really expensive and they would not likely catch a blowout before it happens. I try to get them checked often, but that is hard to do.

Judy, I have had had so many tire problems over the years that I finally got a monitor. It keeps me from checking the tires every morning when I'm on a trip. I can see at a glance that the pressure is good. I have to have valve extenders to use the monitor. There is no way I would go down the road not knowing what my tire pressure is and being able to add air to the inside tires. I think it also warns of high temperatures too. It is a pain to program when I need to change a sensor and gets on my last nerve but I finally get it. Usually after I have un-programed the wrong sensor.

Another good test on tires, besides pressure, is a little thermometer gun. They are digital and cost between. $20 and $50. Hubby got ours at Harbor Freight but readily available on Amazon too. All tires should remain about same temp. If you are traveling and you do a rest stop, walk around and point the temp gun at each tire and compare temps. If not close to same, that off tire may be lower pressure than the others, therefore may have a beginning problem. Less air=softer tire= more drag/friction, producing higher temp in that tire. We carry ours in RV and Mel or I walk around and check at each stop. Takes maybe two minutes at most.
