Online photo storage?

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Mar 04, 2016 3:37 pm

I am trying to decide which online photo storage site is best for me. I want to get all of my personal photos uploaded and organized and want the most userfriendly (uncomplicated) site out there.
I don't like Photobucket, so was thinking about Picasa but just learned they are closing down and replaced by Google+. I checked that out and it doesn't look very user-friendly to me.
I also checked out SmugMug but it seems too complicated with too many features I probably don't need.
Any other ideas? What do you all use?

Hi Barbie,
We use Picasa and love it. Your post made me search it and sadly I will have to move my photos elsewhere (also not a fan of google+)
I also hope someone on this forum can recommend a user friendly photo site!
Thanks,
Kelly

You might want to take another look at Photobucket if you have not tried it lately. I think it has become much friendlier at least as far as uploading pictures goes.

Photobucket seems so slow for uploading photos and sometimes it just shuts down on me in the middle of it. Also have problems sometimes with editing photos. Still haven't figured out how to move photos around to different locations. (Maybe it is just me that is slow! )

Why not just buy an external hard drive and keep things on that? I am probably old-fashioned, but I do not trust online storage because of the potential of them going out of business and losing my stuff.

I'm like Judy. Don't want my stuff where it could be lost or the terms of service could abruptly change. I also don't like anything that locks me in to internet access. I have two external drives and I keep them in different locations.

I keep ours on an external drive for the same peace of mind mentioned by others but I like the online photo storage to send photo albums to family. I take way too many pictures to email them :)

I absolutely hate Photobucket. Every time I go there, which is not frequently things have changed and I have to face another learning curve. I don't post pics here because it is just too dang hard for this old lady. Facebook is so easy so will stick to that for now. For now I have my pics on an external hard drive backed up to another external hard drive because they can also crash. I have been a little slow in the picture taking dept this last year but hope to get back to it.

As Karen says, external hard drives can crash. Mine did at one of the only points I didn't have pics backed up to a second source. So, yes, make sure you have then in at least two places.

Yes, I had that happen once, too, Beth. That's why I have two big external drives. (I can learn from experience -- even if I'm slow. )

My photos are all on CD's and DVD's but just want them online to send to people, to edit and print. I have already had several of my Cali pictures printed (from Photobucket because they do have great specials) on canvas to hang on my walls.

Have you checked Flickr? Also, if you are an Amazon Prime member, you have access to unlimited and free photo storage with apps that auto-upload from your smartphone or computer. I agree about Google. I still have not got over them doing away with the iGoogle home page several years ago.
