Going back to the island!

I'm doing the SNOOPY DANCE!!

I just heard from the volunteer coordinator on San Juan Island ... I'm going back there this fall. It will be so beautiful ... and COLD again. LOL. But I'm excited to see my friends there. I might even stay through the holidays ...

For those who haven't read about my adventures there, San Juan Island is part of a 178-island archipelago, between Vancouver Island and the northern Washington coast. I volunteer at a national park the commemorates the peaceful resolution of a conflict that nearly sent the United States and Great Britain to war in the 1850s. The people are wonderful and I have many friends there. This will be my third year there.

When will you be getting there? I don't have that on my itinerary - but who knows exactly how I'll drive down after Alaska? I just know I'll be broke Would be great to possibly meet up with you.

Beth, If you'll be broke ... please note it's a $300 ferry ride to the island. LOL. But a rendezvous somewhere along the northern WA coast would work.

Mike wants me to come mid-September, so Sheila, I'll be around with plenty of time to meet with you. In terms of looking up my "island" postings, I think my only ones were on the "old" women's RV forum. Sorry. If you're on Facebook, PM me and I'll give you my name so you can make a "friend" request. I have island photos there.

Great news I'm really happy for you!! Is the $300. ferry charge for RV's or all vehicles?!?

I visited friends on Vashon Island a few years ago and really loved the area but it was late May and lovely cool weather.

Hey Janice, lucky you...It is a great spot. My son and DH and I spent several enjoyable hours some years ago, talking to the folks at the little historical museum/info centre there. Even bought a little book on the avoided conflict. LOL, wasn't it all about a Yank shooting a prize pig or something?? How we laughed at the story...

Yes. It's called the Pig War. But it's really about who controlled the islands ... and the huge shipping lane between the San Juan island and Vancouver Island. The funniest thing is that the Kaiser got to flip the figurative coin and decide who "won the war. LOL.
