I've been wanting to make something three-dimensional with quilled snowflakes. This is my first try at a quilled snowflake sphere, and some changes are needed, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Lovely! Did you quilt the pieces and then stiffen them in some way or ?

I shaped the pieces on a foam mold as I made them, BJ, so that each one would have the necessary curve. Then I assembled the larger pieces, and made sure the glue had at least 8 hours to set. Actually, the thing that makes this an experiment rather than a completed sphere is that I underestimated how much reinforcement a nine-inch sphere needed as I was building, so this sphere is a bit too flexible. If I hung it, I think it would sag over time. The next one will be completely rigid.

And now that I have that figured out . . . oh, my, more possibilities! I'm thinking of quilled dragon wings . . . :D

I wonder if a inflated round balloon would work for the smaller, stiffer pieces? Then pop it when done and remove. Quilling is such fun. Before I knew what quilling was, when I got married in ''76, a dear friend of my Mom's framed our wedding invitation and decorated it with beautiful quilling. I treasure that gift. Towels wear out, pans get replaced, but that quilling is forever! You have given me the itch to start quilling again.
