Let's start our day with a good morning here.

scary Sunday....

Postby grammynmaggie » Sun Jan 17, 2016 6:46 am

Good morning everyone... and scary it was my phone started squawking about 3:30 a.m. a tornado warning take cover immediately... grab stuff grab Pheebe and headed for the campground bathroom not far away got there just as three or four other people showed up... called Carol we had discussed earlier at campfire if I got alert I shouldn't go to bathroom and call her but at the same time Vicky was pounding on her door ... I tried to call Soos no answer on phone I did not have Margie's number... but by that time Vicki and Dave. Where pounding on doors and hauling people in their truck to the bathrooms in our bathroom all in all we had about couple dozen people in almost as many dogs ended up we were all safe but it was a wild PJ GTG in the bathroom.... and through it all with all those people and dogs you never heard a peep out of Pheebe... I am still in awe and cannot believe how she is acting like a normal dog.. well that's my tal for this morning I wonder what the rest of the day will bring...lol...have a good one...donna

Glad you gals were safe in the bathroom and had enough warning to get there. Yes it was bad. A tornado hit South of Tampa Bay and 2 are confirmed dead in Manatee County. A tornado warning is now in effect where my neighbor's who summer here, live near Jupiter. They are showing damage in Sarasota. One of our forum members, Dell, lives in Sarasota and I hope others in FL were not in it's path.

As for here, we are getting a blast of cold and another round of lake effect snow. This time last it will be short lived, couple day and then warming up. Debating whether or not to venture to church as winds are shifting and heavy snow bands will be moving in. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory till tomorrow at 10 a.m. So weather is very much on the forefront this morning.

So, you gals stay safe down there and have a good time. This will become the remember when we had the tornado warning and the PJ arty in the bathroom GTG. Glad Phobee did so well, but dogs can pick up on those storms too like Molly did when she woke me up ahead of the one in SD. And they can either get very nervous or remain very calm. As for everybody else, hope you have a better Sunday than it's starting for some us. Stay safe, warm, dry, whatever.

Thanks for the update Sue.. I don't have my TV antenna I think has a loose wire so I don't know what's going on and nobody is up and around yet... someone said when we were in the bathroom they brought up on their phone and said there were two that touchdown not far away... I always listen to my squawking phone when that kind of alert comes along the last time it happened in Pennsylvania the tornado touched down just 4 miles away...

Mornin' ladies ~~~

Very scary Donna. Glad too that everyone is OK with no damage done. And good for Pheebe. The furkids can continually amaze us. Hope the rest of the GTG is smooth sailing.

Not much happening here. Punkin training (like I really want to go out today in the cold. Little guy tried to get me up at 4 A.M., finally settled back down and at 5:45 tried again. OK OK OK. We got up and went potty. At least he knows how to ask, but the early A.M. stuff is a bummer when I could be sleeping late. Oh well, gotta do what ya gotta do.

Have a good day everyone, stay warm, stay safe and be careful on the roads.

Morning all. Wow, Donna, certainly not what you needed in the middle of the night! But glad everyone is okay. Pheebe must have known something serious was going on. Good girl. Hope the rest of the gtg goes well. Sue, we are in for some snow too. This morning there is a little bit on the driveway but the blacktop is still showing. Sounds like the next several days will more of the same, so far less then an inch at a time over several days. I'll take it! Glad to know Carolb make it to Ava's driveway and will be heading to Q soon. Have fun, Carol! And hope your date went well, Ava! Hope it warms up for you so you feel better. Not much going to happen around here today. Just another day to putter around here. Have a good day, everyone and travel safe!

Good Morning Everyone !! I have had my first adventure huddled in the CG bathroom with everyone and their Furbabies, I will add I'm glad no tornados touched down here, didn't want that part of the adventure. Traveling west and checking into CG's part of the info given is where you go in case of tornado, especially Mo and Ks, that are part of my usual route. Besides being a bit tired all are safe here.

Vicki(Oma) was knocking on my door about same time Donna called, I had gotten up and dressed when I heard hard rain and checked on radio and IPad what was happening. We knew bad weather was on its way, it started when we were setting around the campfire, we all scurried for shelter. I so appreciated Vicki and Dave thinking of me and picking me up, think they recused several in the early morning hours. I was dreading that hike to the bathroom, I am quite a ways, and I was more then a happy camper when I saw Vickie at my door, they are great people and so thoughtful of others !!

I said earlier we shared with many little four legged friends and a couple huge babies. Well little Pheebe looked at everyone and them and only one time barked and that was back at another one who barked. I'm thinking she just said "shut up" Her mommie held her close most of the time and she just leaned back onto her chest and watched everyone. I kept watching her , I'm still so amazed, Donna has done wonders with her in two weeks time. Not sure she wants any cuddles from ANYONE but she is sure feeling safe with her mommie and behaving great for her. And I am soooo happy for them both !!!

It's getting late, I need to get moving here. Hope all have a great day, stay safe, please,

Wow! That was a scary night, indeed. Glad to hear everyone is safe. Interesting about Phoebe - maybe this will be a turning point for her - she's now experienced how her mommy will take care of her no matter what. Keeping my fingers crossed. :D
Looking forward to pics from Quartzsite - hope you all find each other. Another year or so & I should be able to go.
Overcast here this morning. Gaby is coming up from San Diego today - always love having her here & send her home with some groceries for her empty cabinets.
I booked a flight to KS for mid Feb - Southwest fares are very reasonable ($180 round-trip for seniors) - Hooray for being 65!
Well, better get moving - perfect morning for a nice walk with Sadie.

Wow! What a scary experience! So glad Phoebe handled it so well. I am sure she knew something bad was going on and felt safe with her mom. Animals can feel the change in air pressure when tornadoes are nearby. I had a cat once I nicknamed Radar who always let me know the difference between garden variety storms and severe tornado weather. I always knew when to head to the basement just by watching her!

Just kicking back today since it is my birthday and of course, it is -11 below zero with a -30 below windchill. My birthday is notorious for being the coldest day of every winter.  Had so many parties canceled because of that when I was a kid. Next Sunday is supposed to be 35 above zero, so a nice January thaw coming! Not much to thaw tho, since we don't have much snow yet. Today I will just hunker down with the cats and read, pay bills and maybe do some laundry.

Hope the weather clears for the rest of the FL GTG! I remember the FL GTG many years ago that you all woke up to snow!! :o Someone made a mini snowman on a picnic table! Lol!

I was looking at Craigs List yesterday and saw a '68 Shasta 14 ft travel trailer. It is in really good condition and has been fixed up inside pretty good. It even has the wings on the back of it! I spent all evening thinking about all the fun improvements and decorating I could do in that thing! They want $4900 for it and, of course, I don't have that kind of money, it is just fantasizing at this point. But fun to dream!

Hope you all have a good day and stay safe, warm and dry! :D

Good Morning from balmy South Dakota! -3* with a -15* wind chill factor…but the sun is shining. I plan to keep my hinder right in the house all day! At least it’s not as bad as originally predicted which was going to be -15 and -30-35 wind chill. I had crazy stupid dreams last night that kept waking me up so I foresee a nap today as I imagine the ladies in Florida will probably do also after their stormy night. When the boys were little we had one summer that every time we went camping the rangers came through and told us to take shelter in the bathhouse. Not fun. On one of our girls only week-ends at a resort in Madison we told if a storm came up we were supposed to go the storm shelters on the premises. We were assigned #2! I’m attaching a picture. They were a little crude to say the least but I imagine that they would do the trick in a pinch. Being claustrophobic I don’t know if I would have been able to handle the close quarters. I know that if you’re driving and see a tornado you’re supposed to try to get into a culvert but I also know that skunks and other vermin also set up permanent residents in culverts.

Safe travel and good health to all of you.

So glad all of you are safe. Happy Birthday Barbie! We are supposed to have a pretty good rain storm coming through here later today and basically every other day this week, so Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday !
Those culverts, I think it's pretty clever they put piece of tire for head protection but i sure would wonder what else was in there ahead of me, but guess during middle of night you don't worry about anything but hiding from the storm!
I got my very first card from my two grandchildren yesterday so will spend time in craft room making cards to go back to each.
Have a safe day all. Stay warm too. Will be near 60 here I think.

Pat we are gaining on you! Now at -5 below with a -23 below windchill!

I would worry about those culverts in a tornado. It could suck you right out from the pressure change. They say not to take shelter under bridges for the same reason. Hope I never have to find out! :o

I and the two cats finally moved off the bed and onto the couch for the rest of the day! :D

Hope the FL GTG gals can resurrect the day from the storms overnight. I am sure they will figure out something fun to do rain or shine!

Barbie, I think he's asking way too much for that trailer. Just my opinion, of course.
