Martha, whenever my mother was hospitalized, I used to post big notes in black marker on her headboard or on the wall behind her bed with her allergies. Like "Patient allergic to penicillin" in really big print. That way if she was asleep or could not hear clearly or especially later when she had dementia, the nurses and doctors had the messages in front of them all the time!!

I did that after they had given her a TV test when I told three people she reacted violently to a TB test and not to give her one! Came back the next morning, and her whole upper arm was swollen and red from the TB test that they had given her! :x

Oh, and my doctor recently prescribed caffeine for whenever I had a migraine. Told me coffee or Coke or whatever, along with aspirin. I do agree about getting rid of the husband, however.

Caffeine is often prescribed, recommended - but I'm allergic to it and it can send me to the hospital - after first giving me a gigantic headache. I'd be the person who they'd give the caffeine to in the hospital like your story about TB. But I'm really careful because the only time I had more than a few sips of caffeine (all it takes to start me off with the headache) I took a non-drowsy pill or two (which were all caffeine) and my throat closed up and they had me on the way to the hospital before I finally caught my breath.

My Mother had migraines for many years when I was young. She took a prescription medication, but only sparingly. Mostly she just went to lie down with a cold cloth on her head. One day her migraines just stopped. Now I get them occasionally, sometimes in the day but just as often they will wake me up at night.Like you Beth, it seems a change in the weather pressure can bring them on. If I can catch them at the start, I can usually get them under control with Excedrin. But if they get away from me, I'm a mess. And opposite of what my Mom used (cold), I seem to need warmth, especially on my face/head. My Mom said my Grandmother wanted warmth, too, so I guess I take after her.

That's why I take Anacin, it has caffeine in it. Probably not near as much as a soft drink.

I get cluster migraines--none for months, and then I will get one every day for weeks at a time. It is funny, but usually they come at a specific time of day, like a 2:00 pm migraine every day. Luckily, I have not had one for quite a while, but migraines are one reason I made my mesh curtain for my cab. Bright sunlight is one of my triggers, so putting the black mesh up to break up the light often helped me.

One thing I did take years ago for migraines and was actually prescribed for my youngest son when he was 8 was an antidepressant drug. He kept getting stomach aches and nausea, plus visual problems, with migraines, and it kept him out of school quite often. He would lose central vision and really get sick. I took him to a pediatric neurologist who prescribed an anti-depressant drug. In 2nd grade he missed 30 days of school, but once he started taking the anti-depressant, and he took a small dose and only when he had a headache, he missed only 5 days in 3rd grade. When he would start to get a headache, he would go down to the office and they would give him a pill that they kept in their locked safe, and he would go back to class or lay down briefly. He stopped having bad headaches in middle school, so stopped taking the meds.

When his pediatrician saw what he had been prescribed, he said he was a bit surprised, but knew the pediatric Neurologist and said he could not argue with him since he was a top guy. Anyway, it worked and kept him in school when previously he would have to come home sick.

Maybe The Mayo clinic needs to alter their recommendations to include divorce for headaches :!: :)
Their current recommendations are, acupuncture, biofeedback, and herbs, vitamins and minerals. I am always for trying alternative methods before drugs and I know that hypnosis, which works much the same as biofeedback, does help some people. I personally was able to stop my migraines with self-hypnosis.

Mayo's suggestions for alternative treatment for regular migraines are very similar with the top 3 suggestions being the same as for rebound migraines. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-cond ... n-20026358

Hypnosis though, like acupuncture does not work for everyone but clearly they are well recommended options.

BJ, I got the Magnesium on board. Found that it keeps those pesky leg cramps away...... Though at 400mg it might not be enought toeffect the headaches. :)

I don't believe I'd ever had a headache until after the car accident that caused mine that stayed for years. And those started in one fashion and sometimes became migraines. We needed to work on the root causes... damage to my neck. That's why, eventually, a good chiropractor worked. Fast forward many years and another car accident! Xrays showed new damage to the same area. Difference in times, the doctor sent me to a chiropractor and a massage therapist and insurance paid for it. Worked again and I know the things to do, posture, etc, to not let my neck cause the headaches.

But, somewhere in recent years, I developed sinus problems and those cause most of my current headaches. I eat lots of spicy foods, which help. And for some reason weather related sinus problems normally are worse mornings and I'm better in the late hours. Another reason to sleep in and then stay up late, when possible. My weather app on my phone has headache indicators. I was always looking at the migraine ones and they weren't true for me. Finally discovered they also have sinus reports, and those seem to be. Supposed to be better Friday.

I think the return of more headaches is why I'm not enjoying reading as I normally do.

Went to a local vacuum store to try to buy some bags for my Panasonic canister vac. Trying to support local business and "shop small" but they were out of them. I think I'm the only one who ever buys them there. And they're scarcer than hen's teeth to find. So came home and found them online and ordered a bunch because they were so cheap but I would have preferred to buy them at the store.

Know what you mean about vacuum bags. I needed some and no one sells them any more. My vac is a Kenmore so ended up at Sears where they had one package. I grabbed it. Progress to bagless vacs I guess.

I was looking at a bagless vacuum a few years ago and the filter had to be washed and dried every time you used the vacuum. I thought yea right, I'm going to do that. Hopefully they have improved since then.

Yeah, I think you're right Carol. They're pushing us to the bagless types. My friend just bought one and it does seem to do a good job but I don't like having to empty it. The site I found my bags at was evacuumbags.com.

I was able to find vacuum bags for my old Kenmore at www.kwikivac.com. They were Eureka bags that fit. They also had bags for many older vacs.

Decided we needed a campfire tonight. I hate the short days. Only drove 200 miles today, but got a late start because I went to the Post Office and found a good bakery. Then I had to stop for gas and groceries on the way, and barely made it to my campsite before dark. I am at Hidden View COE campground on Hensley Lake. Not much water in the lake, but still a pretty place. It is northeast of Fresno, just at the foothills of the Sierras. Both dry sites and electric sites, so with the senior discount it only costs me $15 per night for cement and asphalt sites and lots of privacy. Actually, I am the only person here other than the volunteer camp hosts, but the rangers patrol all the time and there is a locked gate at night. In fact, I had barely set up and they came by to collect their money!

Decent Verizon coverage here also. So, going to try to slog through some things I have to grade. Semester is winding down and final exam is online, open book, and grades itself! Yea!!

And yes, it is warmer here than it was in Tehachapi last night. Was 65 during the day driving here and supposed to be in low 40s tonight. It is 52 right now.
