Snowy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Nov 21, 2015 7:59 am

Good Morning,

Looks like a snowy Saturday for some of you out there. Pat, Kathy, Cheryl, Eileen, looks like you gals are getting dumped on. Not sure about Melissa or BJ. Nothing going on here. Forecast calls for 1-3 inches today and maybe another 1 inch tomorrow. No big deal really. Lake effect is supposed to kick in but the winds will dictate who gets more than others. Hopefully it will settle down so I can leave on Monday morning.

House cleaning on the agenda this morning and then putting turkey in oven later on. Small bird, so won't need a lot of time. Will then cut up and freeze in portions for Thanksgiving and the weekend and the rest for probably Christmas week. Martha, you wondered if I will keep losing weight during the holidays. I probably will. I have no holiday parties or family gatherings as no family here. So I can just keep to my eating regime. Not even sure if I will do any holiday baking this year as I have been pretty much staying away from sweets and haven't really missed them. Not to say I don't have a donut after church on Sunday or something. But hey, Sunday is supposed to be a diet free day they say

Have my three logs painted for my log snowmen, so might work on one this afternoon. Will see how the day develops. Want to get the rest of my stuff to pack north together and also Molly and I need our daily walk.

JudyJB, sounds like you are enjoying NM. Hope you get the new computer program for work figured out and working the way you want. Liz glad you had a nice safe trip to GA. Anita and Carolb must be lost again, as haven't heard from them in a few days

Time to get moving here. Have a nice Saturday all :)

Good morning from the snow belt! Not getting "belted" much yet, though; we have barely an inch on the ground here, but the storm will last all weekend, so we may end up pretty white by the time it's over. A few errands today, but mostly tucked in for the weekend. Didn't get to the fabric store yesterday, so I'll think about that this afternoon while DH is rehearsing. Maybe go to a show "Damn Yankees" at the University of WI Milwaukee a mile or two away tonight, but not sure. Has anybody seen it? We have a class at 8:30 about our new iPhones, so better get going.
Stay safe out there,
Eileen

It's raining again. I hear thunder but I don't think there are any storm warnings. Today is election day. I will be so glad the ads will be off TV. One of the men running for Governor was involved in a prostitute scandal a few years ago. I sure hope he doesn't get elected. Our current Governor was such an ass. He finally dropped out of the Presidental race. He couldn't even have carried Louisiana. He started running for President when he got elected Governor and we have paid the bill for 8 years.

The Christmas campout for the Louisiana Belles is in 2 weeks. Most of the women have the vintage trailers and their Christmas decorations are so cute. Mine are kind of sad. I need to dig around and find some decorations. I saw on Facebook where someone had made a Christmas tree using an old pallet. I think even I could make one of those. I will have to keep an eye open for a pallet.

I don't feel like doing much today. Guess I could turn the Roomba on, that doesn't take much effort. I just have to pick up the catnip mice so it doesn't eat them.

Happy to say there is no snow here but we do have rain. Had lots of plans that changed due vet deciding he needed to see Andy this after hearing the video I sent of his cough. He's been on medicine that worked for several days then it came back. It's a wheezing type cough that has me really worried. First vet visit found his lungs clear so don't know what is up. Will try to get plans rearranged so my friend and I can get to some of the Christmas open houses at some of the small towns this afternoon. Hopefully it will have cleared up like the weather man promised by then.

Martha how do you like your Roomba?

Good Morning!

Not lost, Sue, just lazy I guess! Already envying your trip to the UP. Still so much weather to talk about! Rain here and thunderstorm overnight - makes for blah. I'm looking forward to visiting the small towns in Hill Country while they are decorated for Christmas. Hoping the weather cooperates. I, too, am wondering where Carolb is!

Chris (Red) picked me up Thursday - she lives less than 3 miles away. We went for lunch, then to her new house and a golf cart trip around her neighborhood which is lovely. So good to visit with her. We have tentative plans tomorrow to go to a cemetery to photo headstones for Find a Grave requests - my version of geocaching.

Today will be deep cleaning the 'bedroom' area in here.

Sad news yesterday that BFF's son-in-law passed away after fighting cancer for 5 years - including running marathons while having treatments. Diagnosed with colon cancer before he was 50. Kansas daughter, who is apparently not really speaking to me after cousin's wife stuck her nose in, posted on FB my granddaughter has new health issues. This is the granddaughter with Crohn's disease. I commented and she replied but not about that. Will be carefully wording an e-mail - have to walk on egg shells again.

Wind is picking up so a bit of rockin' and rollin' here.

Everyone have a great day - stay warm, dry and safe!!

Hope you don't mind my jumping in here. I LOVE my Roomba. I've had one for at least 8-9 years. They've improved a lot over the years. Mine now is scheduled to clean every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2:00 pm. That's the way I like to vacuum!

Good morning ladies
I'm grateful we are having comfortable temperatures again. Wish all of you could enjoy this.
My big head honcho boss got a taste of the new kids parents yesterday and now
he understands what I'm dealing with. That day I've been waiting for finally arrived yesterday,,,,,,,,,the day the students missed the bus :D which is why head honcho got a call from the parents, and totally standing me on this. Head honcho says we will
fix this. Told him how the kid was giving me chest pains and I even went to the doctor
to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack,,,,,,,nope, anxiety but no meds cause I'm
a driver and learn to deal with it in other ways. (extra wine  )
No posts from Carolb lately, makes me worry, guess I'll send her a text. Hope
she's ok.
About time to get to the store, y'all have a great day and be safe.

Sunny and bright here. Supposed to get a little rain Tuesday and Wednesday but the big story is they say that it will be cold, days in low 50's and nights dropping to 32 for a hour or two. Time to move my pineapple plant to shelter! My Satsuma Mandarins are ripe if you are hungry. Otherwise I can make you a smoothie. Mel finished his 5th day of radiation yesterday and is ok so far. He decided he wants to do treatment next Friday and they say they will have a small crew there for those who want to come, so guess that's how I will spend Black Friday, morning at least. It's just 3 of us, so I'm planning ham and scalloped potatoes since only two of us like turkey. Hope to get some decluttering done today, if Mel manages not to call me too often to watch cooking shows. The four footed alarm is standing at moment on Mel's feet loudly requesting he get up and fix her chicken breakfast! So glad she likes him better. LOL
I chatted with my friend ( and member here) Brenda in NC last night via messaging and her life is settling down as she heals from a flare of her auto immune problems and she is hoping to head soon to Florida for a family visit. She says she won't use her RV for trip until she's stronger but is enjoying her new to her park model in a adult park in NC near her other home. She hopes to get back to visiting here soon.

BJ, I love my Roomba too. I could build a cat every time I run it. lol. After seeing the posts on Facebook about the Roomba spreading dog poo around I decided not to program mine. My cats don't poop in the floor but they hack up fur balls regularly and I don't want that spread around. I just run it when I'm here to watch it. It doesn't do a very good job on the area rug in the living room but it's low enough to go under the beds.

Ava, glad your boss got to see what you are having to deal with.

Anita, that's nice of you to add pictures to Find A Grave. I was able to find my Grandfather's grave because someone put a picture. While you are in the area you might want to make a pass through Old Town Spring. They are probably decorated for the holidays or will be soon. A lot of the small Texas town have trade day weekends. I seldom buy anything except food but I like to look. If you make it over to San Antonio before Christmas the Riverwalk is decorated too.

I have to get several plants in the old house because it's suppose to get down to 37 tonight and maybe freeze tomorrow night. :( I might have to dig out some long pants.

Martha, thanks for the suggestions! We did the River Walk at Christmas in 2002. I don't drive at night so won't see that again, but I will get there during the day! I Googled Old Spring Town and will try to get there.

It's starting to look a lot like Christmas...everybody sing! :D
Heavy stuff here today, but at least only maybe 1-3" by the time it's over. Glad I don't live farther north where they may be getting up to 10". Yikes. Eileeen, you surviving up there? Sue, know you love this stuff.

Still waiting to pick up Colt. As of yesterday, the wallpaper/wallboard came in to fix where the emergency window leaked, so maybe pickup Tuesday if it's done (supposed to be 40*) or next Friday or Saturday (some rain expected but doesn't sound like storms so far). Sure hope they check the leak with all the snow that's going to be on Colt.

Have a good day everyone & stay safe on the roads.

Yep Sue…we got dumped on…like 11”! I drove to work yesterday and about a half block from the parking lot entry I almost went in the ditch going about 25mph. Needless to say I said “Self you are fricking crazy…go home!” So I called my boss and told him I was there but I was turning around and going home. He’s a 100 miles away and said it’s not doing anything here. Told him to get on the radio…all the schools in our area were called off. It took me from 6:50-8:20 to drive about 38 miles…it’s usually about 20 minutes one way. I was darn glad to pull into our garage. My highlight of the day was my boss calling around noon and saying “you weren’t kidding…it’s terrible here now!” Today it’s 19* but sunny, my friend Missy called me from Minneapolis just before she boarded the plane to go the Key West for the holiday. Told me that her sister was going to keep the winter coats so they didn’t have to bother with them…..I think I hate her right now. On the bright side Bronc thinks the snow is wonderful.

Not much new with me. Wish I could get some ambition to do something since I have Thanksgiving here next Sunday. We have to work around Ashley’s family and Sean’s schedule at the hospital. If the weather is decent…which it isn’t supposed to be, I plan to go to the nursing home with my sister and have Thanksgiving dinner with mom.

Dennis slipped getting off a tractor last Sunday and broke two ribs. So he’s a little (lot) out of sorts. He’s thinking of retiring from the part-time city job in March. The boys, his boss, and I keep telling him not to. Ryan doesn’t want him at the farm all the time and I certainly don’t want him around the house all day! Allen wants him to stay because Dennis can fix just about anything as long as it’s not electrical.

They finally advertised for my job replacement. They wanted my resignation on October 3 so they could start looking but didn’t put anything out until November 9 and closed it on the 16th. Only open to in-house applicants. Well in 1999 when I was hired they interviewed for two and a half days and I wasn’t an in-house hire. All the officers wanted the job because it would mean no shift changes, M-F work week and all holidays off. My name was on the top of everyone’s shit (sorry) list and to be perfectly honest I was treated terrible by some of the employees who had applied. That was back when the shop only had 10 employees and all we made were blue jeans, t-shirts and denim jackets. Now we also make the blankets, sheets, pillowcases, boxers, dress outs, black and white stripe uniforms for county jails, have the screen shop and the heat transfer shop and Braille shop. Plus we have contracts with other state, county and city agencies. Average inmate employee rate is around 36 minimum. Guess what…only one person applied. Now some of those same people who were mad because I was hired think it’s too much work! I have to help with the sole interview. The guy is nice enough but he has been my guard for several shifts in the past years and he is lazy.

Well the washer just stopped guess I’d better put that load in the dryer…..no hanging things out today! Guess this is getting a little long anyway…..but I don’t post often so you’ll just have to deal with it!

Best to everyone.

Oh Pat, I sympathize with you on your DH's broken ribs. It was rough around here for a couple of weeks. It was 5 weeks yesterday and Harold was on his horse. Things do get better. I wouldn't want him to quit his part time job either. Some days I wish I had somewhere to go. Harold always wants to help me do things and I don't want any help. It's a good thing our boys didn't want to farm because he would drive them crazy. As it is, I have to hear about the guy that has cattle here and the guy that farms his land.

I hope they don't do you like my boss did when I worked for a farm supply. I was getting married and moving and he fired my replacement my last week. I ended up commuting 80 miles several times a week to train someone else. They better hire a woman to replace you because a man is not going to do all that work. A man would want an assistant.

You can go ahead and keep all the snow.

Thanks Sandi and Martha for the Roomba reports. I hadn't thought about the sh** or upchuck issue  but if I get one will now have it turn on if I am gone!

DPF, I loved your long post! I think most of us share the opinion that men should be kept busy and out of the house at least a few hours a day. But then they probably feel the same about us. I know how you feel about all the extra work that was added to your jo over the years. When I retired they took half of the work I did and assigned the responsibilities to others, then hired a man at a higher classification that paid a much high salary. The director resigned the day I did making the statement he couldn't do his job without me. It's been years ago and I still get aggravated. I know you are counting the hours!
