I can tell I am in the South: 1) saw an armadillo along the roadside, and 2) already stepped on a fire ant nest and got several painful bites on left foot! Those little guys are fast and apparently do not like company.
Took a Benadryl and put on some of my prescription bug bite stuff. I will be here in Poverty Point Reservoir for a couple of days and then headed into Texas. On my way to Texas on Friday, I will stop and get something for fire ant nests. Luckily, rest of site seems OK, so moved forward a few feet so I do not have to stand on nest to hook stuff up. Checked shoes and feet before I got back inside to make sure I did not have any hitchhikers!
Any recommendations from you Southern ladies for ant stuff to put down next time? I already am a traveling pest prevention service. I have mouse traps, ant traps for inside, flying insect spray, traps for fruit flies, and Deep Woods Off, but of course none of those helps against these tiny nasties. I do have some Borax I have been carrying around, but can't remember what I am supposed to do with it.
By the way, this is a new and very nice campground and even has some full hookup sites. Am looking forward to exploring on my bike tomorrow.
