Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday

Good morning to All - where is everyone? Strange to find no one here. Going to be another beautiful day here in Vegas. Lots of sun and cool. We went on a little outing yesterday to the store. Surprised how fast I wore out! It's been 2 weeks today since surgery. Guess I'm not 25 anymore! Speaking of age - it is Bill's 79th birthday today. Everyday we give thanks that we are both basically so healthy. And can remain active and busy. He looks and acts 10 years younger since we got out of the allergy country.
No plans for today. I woke him up when I got up during the night - so he is now back in bed "reading" Not going to bake him a cake but will cook him a pie crust! Yep, just a pie crust with butter, cinnamon and sugar. His favorite sweet.
We have a pot of fresh coffee and croissants if you stop by.

Happy birthday to Bill! He sure doesn't look his age. Never mind the croissants...just pass the pie crust! Whenever my mother made pies, she always rolled the extra pie crusts with butter, cinnamon and sugar and baked. They were great treats! Thanks for that memory.

I'm sitting here waiting for Donna to arrive, she says around noon. I'll take her out today for a tour around the area, because it may be impossible to go anywhere with the vendors setting up all through town tomorrow, and then the streets are closed Saturday during the 1890s festival. Upwards to 50,000 people will crowd this otherwise sleepy little town. Thistle and I took our walk through town this morning and watched all the port-potties arriving, lol!

Ditto that! Mine never turn out the same as Mom's.

Good morning All. Yummy - that pie crust with cinnamon and sugar sure sounds good. But, does anyone bake pies any more? LOL

Carol, glad to hear Bill is doing so well, and that you are recovering well. LV seems to agree with you both!

Just took the kitten to the vet for her wellness checkup. Everyone there wanted to steal her from me! She just charms everyone she meets with her big blue eyes and great personality!

Some of you were asking about my dad's reverse mortgage. What we are doing is taking $125K from his equity (his house is worth close to $1M) and using that to pay off his loans, which will free up a lot of his income to live on without worrying about being in debt. He won't be paying his mortgage payment until the house gets sold (most likely within 5 years) and then we pay back the $125K plus interest which will still leave us with a halfway decent amount of money. The only thing we have to make sure of is to keep him from giving his money away to scammers, but if he isn't feeling desperate for money or afraid of losing the house, he may be less likely to do that anyways. My brother is in charge of his finances so that should help deter him too, hopefully!

Got the day off so it is laundry and housecleaning day :( Beautiful sunny day but only in the 50's. May go sit outside for awhile before the winds pick up later.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

My mother made those also!! Loved them. And yes, I still do make pie crust. Don't make pies because I really am not a pie person, but I make pie crusts for pasties--those things with ground beef, potatoes, onion, and rutabaga that originated in Cornwall and are very popular in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Cornish miners brought them to Michigan in the 1800s. Yum!

I like to make 5 or 6, bake them, and then cool and freeze them. Makes a nice, quick meal to heat up.

Please wish Bill a happy birthday from me. I, too, preferred those crusts to the pies. I'd be happy to come share them with him.

Diana made my cg her first stop on her way east. So good to see her. We sat outside having snacks for dinner. Chilling now, but will meet up shortly to take a walk before calling it a night.
