Heading over to the dealer in Orlando today, every route I've checked shows construction and traffic, so yay. :( Hopefully it won't be bad and we can get in and out quickly!

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Donna and all who follow,
Not feeling spiffy today, don't know what's wrong just really tired and allergies seem to be acting up. Sure don't need to get sick this week or next, too busy.

Sun's up here but there are lots of clouds in the sky. I never watch the news so can't tell if it's the precursor to rain or ? As long as it holds off til I'm done walking dogs.

Haunted Hayride was a lot of fun. Not very scary but cute and campy. My silly SIL wasn't going to go because her daughter told her it was really scary! Afterwards she was glad she went. Since it was kind of a preview night, we made some suggestions that we thought would help make it more enjoyable for riders, like scary music on the hayrack because it was too quiet and some pumpkin lights on the bridge you have to cross to and from the hayrack. My niece is one of those in charge of it so we gave our ideas to her.

I cleaned out a closet yesterday to get a box with a large Christmas tree out of there and now nothing fits when I try to put it back in again. How can that be? There's more room and nothing fits!?

A couple of days ago a mouse ran out of our living room and into the kitchen where all the dogs were eating their breakfast. I screamed but none of the dogs even moved or looked at it. It ran back into the living room and under the couch but came out later and ran right past DH's pup. Some retriever! He just stood there and watched it run past! Yesterday I caught it in a trap in storage closet upstairs. Hopefully it's the only one, I really hate the thought of mice in the house!

Everyone take care,
Kathy

Mickie, drive safely to your appointment!

Thanks for the morning laugh Kathy!

Hospice nurse came by yesterday with more syringes for Larry's morphine. He is allowed to take one orally whenever he feels more pain. Gets good pain relief from the morphine. A nice system from hospice.

Got my senior flu shot last night, so arm was sore for sleeping, but good this morning.

On SUnday, I went with my son and we moved a sleeper sofa and my entire bedroom suite to his new basement, but somehow I forgot the loose cushions for the couch. He is out of town on a business trip. So, yesterday, I drove the 90 miles back to the storage facility and found the cushions. Instead of logically putting them into one box, I had used them as padding for the bottoms of the big boxes containing china, and of course, three of the four boxes I needed to get into were high on top of other things and MUCH too heavy for me to move. I ended up climbing, on my big desk. One box I was able to open the top and bottom and then re-tape it. The other two that were really high, so I just cut a hole in the side of the box with my knife and pulled out the pillows that way, then taped the hole shut. Told son he would have to add a lot of tape before moving them.

Plus, I brought back a lot of crystal serving pieces that will go to my daughter-in-law in California, so I have to repack those in smaller boxes. They will ride under my rear dinette since I won't need to use that as the convertible bunk beds until California. So got lots of repacking to do today.

Heading to Michigan for five days tomorrow morning. Lots of dinners with friends and a college training session, and then on to Fleetwood customer service center in Decatur next week.

Gmorning all )

Lyn, thanks for checking in...think of you & DD/SIL's situation often...

Made appt to get new tires & house battery for HB. Thought I'd gotten a sealed cell battery when I needed a new last summer--didn't, & I wasn't watering it:( Then he goes to RV dealer for a new tank valve for the blackwater holding tank--last time I dumped, the hose was already full of you-know-what, literally!

Kathy, Kathleen, & Cheryl, a head's up for our early Tday dinner: I've delayed my departure til the second week of Nov. Bro & I have decided to do some additional repairs on the house. Will keep you posted. BJ, you're not that far away from Kathleen--join us?? Hope we can come up with a date that works for all of us. The Hallloween gtg sounds like fun, but I won't make it.

Another perfect fall day. I'll be mowing this afternoon...Y'all gave a great day & safe travels always!

My sister and I are camped in Sulphur, LA with some friends. Every one but us has gone off to see the Creole Nature Trail. My sister isn't feeling good and can't do much walking anyway. We haven't been doing much but eating lunch out and visiting. We are taking turns making supper. I made gumbo and potatoe salad for tonight. We are staying at a nice campground/motel just South of I-10.

I can't use my air conditioner because it vibrates and makes a lot of noise. I bet it's a mud daubber nest that is making it do that. At least it's not too hot and it cools off a lot at night. I figured I was pushing my luck because I made it to Florida and back this summer without breaking something.

What is the difference between a senior flu shot and a regular one?

The so called senior flu vaccine contains 4 times the antigen to provoke a stronger response in our senior immune systems which tend not to respond as strongly as a younger immune system. Said to provide better protection than the lower dose vaccine. Because seniors tend to get sicker and are more likely to die from a flu pneumonia, the experts feel the higher dose will provide a better protection. But talk to your doctor or at least a experienced, trusted pharmacist if you have health challenges for right dose for you. For instance, I have to be careful because in past my asthma has caused my lungs to go into war mode from a flu shot so I used to have to take a half dose then in a week the other half. Past two years the Pharm D ( PhD in pharmacy) who has known me for years used on me the quadrivalent NO Preservative ( no mercury) vaccine and I did well. Lots of choices unless you simply step in line a vaccine clinic where everyone gets same. The quadrivalent is 4 different flu strains not 4 times the dose. And of course, as always, hand washing is the best other step for flu protection. Time to put hand sanitizer wipes back in car to use when we get back to car each time we go out.

PS remember, you don't get flu from the vaccine as its a dead extracted virus. If you get the flu within two weeks of vaccine, you were exposed before your body could work its magic to produce immunity and If you later get a true flu ( high fever, very sick) then they did not hit the mark and you got a different strain than the vaccine had in it, or it is possible your body did not mount a strong enough response and might have become a statistic if not for your at least partial immune response.

Good explanation, Velda. I went into Walmart fairly late last night and got to chatting with pharmacist. He explained all four possible flu shots, but I already knew from my doctor which one I was supposed to get--the senior one. It is interesting to know about all the types, but of course I forgot what they are the minute I walked out of the store! You gave me a good reminder.

I've gotten a flu shot for over 20 years and have not had the flu in all that time. (Knock on wood!) The first 10+ years was because I had such close contact with my mother and then because she was in a senior facility that asked all of us family members who regularly spent time there to get vaccinated.

Also, it is important to know which one you should get because your insurance will pay for only one shot. No charge or deductible if you are on Medicare.

Got my senior flu shot Wednesday morning. Arm unusually sore but lady did great job administering it - didn't even feel it.

Kathy - cannot believe your dogs ignored the mouse. Nicky would have wrecked the house going after it. His hunting obsession has gotten him in trouble more than once.

Lyn - We were very pleased with the pain control hospice provided while my mother was under their care and that was many years ago.

Donna, let us know what you find at RV show. Lucky I guess that we don't have those around here. I may have to hit one or two in FL after the first of year.
