Mel has been in OR since 7:30 and under knife since 8:27. Might get update around 10:30 so half hour from now. I'm back at RV to eat and out away his stuff so I don't have to lug it around. I will report in tonight when I get back to RV.

I'm back at the RV, fixing supper, late but have not eaten since brunch at 10. Mel got to recovery at 2:30 and I got in a while later. Took several hours to get some pain control after multiple drugs and between drugs and anesthesia and pain he dealt with nausea for a while too, something he has not had in previous surgeries. Finally got to the TRU, which oddly stands for transfer and release and is kind of care more than the ward and less than ICU, around 7. I stayed and helped them learn the insulin pump regime I got endocrinology to consult on and headed out to shuttle for home a little after 8:30. The Dr said there were two obviously bad (.cancer presumed) clusters of lymph nodes, one set each side. They got those and all adjacent nodes out. he is cut ear to ear like a bad attempt to remove his head but I think the way it's in a fold a year from now you will hardly see it. I'm drinking a mock gazpacho and eating a salad. I'm pooped and hope to be in bed within the hour.much appreciation for the thoughts and prayers. what a long day which began at 04:30!

Thank you, I so appreciate the support. It's tough being an only child when you see someone my age with 14 plus family members in the waiting room for you and you know you are the only one there for your loved one.

So glad the surgery is over and done and the healing can begin. Hope you got some good rest last night, Velda, and that Mel had a good night too.

What you mentioned about being the only one in the waiting room stuck home with me, when my mom was sick it was just me and Mary, when I had my knee replacement it was just Mary with me. It feels very alone at those times.

Sending you both warm healing thoughts today.

Velda I hope you know your WRV sisters were all there in spirit with while you were waiting. If we could have been there in person, we would have been there too.
