After spending about 10 minutes on the phone making a reservation, getting assurance they would pick up and drop off and getting a confirmation number, the rep on the phone then told me to call the Enterprise office in Tucson to arrange the pick-up time. Upon calling I was told they had no cars available and it made no difference that I had asked to make sure they had a car and had a confirmation number. They could care less. I filed a complaint with Enterprise, but they didn't care.

I never call the 800 numbers that are central reservations - learned that when I managed motels. They will sell things that aren't available. So, I try to always deal with the location I'll be using. If I should use a central reservation system, I immediately then call the local location to make sure I got what I reserved. I do that only if I can get a better price.
As to what happened to you and them not caring - customer service keeps going downhill, sadly. And all it takes is one person to make the whole experience bad.
