Just paid $550 to have a nasty door dent fixed on the Subaru, worst paint job I've ever seen! Told the guy who owns the shop I wasn't happy and he said it looks fine to him. :( New to the area so it's live and learn, I'll find somebody better in the future.

Awww, Mickie. Too bad you didn't come visit back here in IL. We could have fixed it for you and done it right.

Whew! Got the last of my Michigan errands done today. Got refrig finally fixed, picked up prescriptions, stopped at IKEA, and dropped off my bike yesterday. Today, I drove 40 miles to get a mammogram and bone density test, went to the college to get some help with some software and meet my dept chair, stopped at Verizon store, and picked up my bike. Now am waiting for a friend to go out to dinner.

Headed to Ohio tomorrow. Will rent a car and watch my grandkids for two days. One of those days, I will take them to science museum in Cleveland to see dinosaur exhibit.

I need some quiet time to myself! :(

I'm really happy with my insurance company through this whole hail mess and more.

I got all the details on my car today and it is being claimed as a total. I have to call back tomorrow with my decision on my choices. They have the two amounts... first it gets totaled and they take possession of the car. Second, it gets totaled but I keep possession of the vehicle. I thought in the second scenario I'd need to re-title as a salvage, but because of the age of the car, I don't need to even do that.

I'm leaning towards the 2nd choice, 99% decided. It's less money, but both money choices were higher than I was expecting and the costs associated with finding another vehicle, setting up for towing, etc would completely eat up difference, plus it's highly unlikely I'd find another car with as low mileage as I have anywhere in this price range.

While all this was going on, one of the reps looked at my policy and asked if I'd taken the aarp online safe driving course. Ha, have it on the computer but never finished. She told me to finish it and she could lower my premium over $50. Need to find it lol, as my premium is due. She also told me to call after I make my decision on the car and see if we can change anything on its coverage to lower the premium based on what's happened.

Oh, and they direct deposited the amount for repairs to my RV. That's already in my account. They'll do the same for the car when we get everything needed for that. I think all I need to do is get them a copy of my title.

This is much easier than I was expecting.

Definitely interested in this as well.

Been with my company for 38 years and never made a claim, someone put a dent in my car in a parking lot and the agent told me it would be covered under comp (zero deductible) but after wasting a bunch of time getting estimates I was told "yeah, no, sorry, that's collision so your deductible applies". $500 deductible on a $550 repair, I just paid out of pocket... not too happy with my current company.

I shop insurance rates about every three years. When you first start with a company the rates are lower but then start to increase. It is getting more difficult as some places only want to do for 6 months and I don't want to do that. Find a good agent that offers multiple companies and have them find you the best rate or shop online, I like having a local contact though. This time I'm staying another year with Hartford (AARP). I am increasing deductible on HO policy to $2,500.and on the auto doing something called True Lane devise that tracks driving habits for 6 months for another rate deduction. So many things seem so much more complicated to keep up with.

I'm with Hartford through AARP. I pay annually. And I do check around a little, but make sure if you do that you're really comparing apples to apples. It's hard to do because they'll change little things (deductibles, limits) that really change things. I always print things out and compare side by side. Then rarely change.

You can check out insurance companies' ratings with A.M. Best, I think. After my wreck, I'm staying with my State Farm. Paid everything and actually gave me more for my 2000 Jeep than I paid for it. Of course, it helped that I kept it in excellent condition and that I paid less than KBB value for it when I bought it.

With my car (long sold), I scraped a pole driving into a self-serve car wash. $800 damage, but the thing that got me really irritated was that the insurance company (State Farm) not only doubled my insurance rate because of that and one small speeding ticket I had, but also reported it so it showed up on my record as a moving violation!! I was barely creeping!! It really made me mad that they counted that the same as if I had sideswiped someone on the freeway!

And I had had State Farm for almost 40 years! I will be very careful about reporting minor accidents such as that scaping of a pole again.

That's odd, Judy because since my accident I have not noticed an increase in my rates. Maybe because I have 3 vehicles, house and now MH with them? And because the guy who hit me had fly-by-night insurance, SF didn't get all it's money back from him. I know, because a collection agency sent me a letter telling me that they were now attempting to recover the rest from him.

And btw, you about wore me out with all you did, running errands, tests, stopping here and there! Whew!
