Peaches and I just went for a walk and I got a weather alert. Shortly after it started raining. The sun was out so I was looking the rainbow (which I never found) but because of my curiosity the heavy rains hit with about another hundred yards to go. We sprinted, but are both quite wet. Rains got even heavier after getting inside and now seen to be tapering off. Never found that dang rainbow!

Beth, your rains made it here this morning during rush hour and are scheduled to return during afternoon rush hour! Only good thing about them was that they showed me positively that Angel's leak has been fixed.

I had only intended to put a claim on the mh for my hail damage, but with the inspector coming out today, I added a claim for the car. It got the worst damage, and I have full coverage. Even though the car is 11 years old, the mileage is low and I should be able to keep it for several more years. That said, the adjuster told me that the amount of damage could total out the car. I do NOT want to be buying another now, so I'll have to see what can be done - where I get something and keep the car. Time will tell if that scenario plays out, or if the damage is low enough, cost-wise, to get fixed.

I'm actually glad that the mh damage is less. Dings on the hood and only damage to the antenna on the roof. Very lucky. I've got a card for a place in Rapid that does insurance work, and covers the deductible - will see how/if that pans out after I hear from the insurance co.

Beth, it might be possible to keep the car even if the insurance totals it out. A few years ago, my brother smashed my mother's old car (twice in 6 months, actually). Both times, her insurance totaled the car out. Both times, we had the car repaired, showed it to the insurance company, and had it re-insured. I think we might have had to show a mechanic's statement, too.

Did I mention my mother really loved that car? :)

Maybe your insurance company would be fine with that solution. Worth asking about, anyway.

Been going back and forth with my honey about how best to get back on the road and camping. Neither of us wants to blow money on an RV right now as the move to FL and me not currently working keeps the budget in "iffy" territory. So I started looking and found us an easy set up type tent, it's got the poles already in place you just unfold and snap them up. Found some taller air mattresses, added in some decent sleeping bags, and voila, back to camping!! I'll order the stuff up when we get back from her work trip in August and we'll be all set to camp in the Keys this Fall.

I am so angry! The results of my routine bloodwork are in. My doctor's office is recommending lipitor. Fortunately I made them give me the exact figures and used them in the National Institute of Health's worksheet. According to that, I have a 2% risk of heart attack in the next 10 years.

Boy, am I mad!! That is not good medical practice, and whoever sets the levels for their computerized recommendations should be fired. I have a phone request in to my doctor, so I can demand an explanation.

It's too bad, because I rather like my doctor. But she's bound by the guidelines of the practice, and it's pretty clear which way they lean. This isn't the first time I've had disagreements with their recommendations.

I guess I'm going to have to find a new doctor. Sigh.

Louise, another thing no one mentions is that statins were developed and tested on men. Lots of studies out now show that while statins will lower a womans cholesterol numbers, they do not protect us from cardiac instances. The exception to this is women who have had a previous heart attack. It's very frustrating that the people we expect to help us maintain our health don't seem to stay current on studies and simply follow prescription guidelines set forth by pharmaceutical companies.

I have a friend who is a senior research scientist for a Big Pharma company, the stories he tells are just frightening.

Beth, if the amount of damage is more than 80% of the car's value the insurance company will consider it a total and pay you accordingly. You can then elect to buy it back from the company and have it repaired at your cost. I am not certain of how it would be re-titled. Possibly as "salvage". Also, paintless dent companies can often get the majority of dents out for a cheaper price than an auto body shop. Too bad your car isn't here in IL, I can recommend a GREAT body shop! LOL

Louise, sorry you are mad at your Drs. practice but think of it this way; it is a recommendation that you take the Lipitor, not a requirement. I agree, have a talk with your Dr. and see if she can word it as such so your health insurance carrier doesn't rider you out.
