Bald Eagles

Postby GlennaRae » Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:53 am

This is the third year I have watched baby eagles learned to fly. This year it is awesome. The Sutton Avian Research center has two cameras looking down in the nest. One eaglelet hatched the 21st and another is due today. Hope someone else enjoys this as much as me. If you would like to look go to wwwsuttoncenter.org/ and hit the camera.

Thanks, Glenna - I used to be able to watch them from their nest when I lived in WI - they are fascinating birds. I will be checking this occasionally.

Wow, talk about an eagle's eye view. It's windy up there! Thanks for sharing that website. I'll be following their progress.

Ava, make sure you scroll all the way down as the camera is towards the bottom of the page. I almost missed it too when I saw the one that said it was down.
So far all I've seen is the Mom sitting on the nest and what looks like fish parts near by. I guess I always miss the action every time I check, darn it!

I saw mama feeding the one hatchling and another time the male visited the nest bringing fish. You just have to keep checking back. I hope I can catch the next one hatching!

Mom and dad just fed the babe at CDT 1515. Now there are 3 parts of fish around the nest. Mom is still rearranging the furniture. At 3:25 dad came back and helped rearrange furniture - threw some stuff out, but kept the fish and looks like maybe pigeon parts. Then they switched jobs. He took over the cuddle job and she probably went to the market! Continuing....Birdie

I just checked on the eagle nest this noon and it looked like it was rainy. So i checked TWC's post for Stillwater, OK, and found this:

THE WINTER STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT SATURDAY.

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BRING FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET TO NORTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA LATE THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON. A 1/4 INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE PRECIPITATION CHANGES TO SNOW AND SLEET TONIGHT. THIS MAY CAUSE POWER OUTAGES DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS GREATER THAN 4 INCHES ARE EXPECTED... WITH THE HIGHEST SNOW TOTALS ACROSS NORTHERN OKLAHOMA... WHERE 8 INCHES OR MORE ARE POSSIBLE.

I hope our nesting family does ok in this mess.....

Looks like Mama eagle is getting rained on today. I was so excited yesterday that I finally got to see her get off the baby/eggs and feed the hatchling! Then she went back to sitting.
