Good to see you open MC today, bet Sue is glad too, I'm sure she gets a bit tired of trying to think what to post for the days!

We have a slow gentle rain coming down here this morning and are supposed to have thunderstorms during the day. Wish this weather would cooperate so I can get out camping!

De-winterized Angel yesterday with help from DH and advice from friend Ed. I am slowly learning all the tricks of the trade!

Not too much more going on here today, probably should do some laundry as I see it's piling up again (I think it's like rabbits and multiplies in the hamper when I'm not looking LOL). DH went to the shop but said he'd be home around noon and would like to go to Sam's for some things.

Breakfast here is ham & eggs, toast and coffee-help yourself to some!

Good Morning
Well after getting a good bit done on Friday, yesterday was a bust - back and allergies did me in big time. Think I might tackle some paperwork today and maybe find another physically easy task to do. Need to start going thru clothes/ cleaning closets. I have a shameful amount of clothes that do not fit - need to donate most of those to local shelter. Just no excuse for them taking up space here yet I seem to have a problem getting rid of them.
More rain today and extending thru Tuesday so that will limit and further effort on porch project. Carol; good to see you got your decks done. I remember working on the back one one spring when Liz and I were there.

Good Morning Everyone !!! Looks like we may have a day like the weather people are predicting, rain. Yesterday, was really a pretty day after hearing the dire report of what it was going to be, it was a wonderful surprise. I had plans for working inside and I did but not as much as I had hoped for. Laundry is done, and some things sorted, but the big event of the day was the horse race in afternoon. We have another one running for the Triple Crown, in 3 weeks I think it is, I've almost given up hope on seeing that happen again, but I still keep watching these races. Love watching, and so glad I don't live close to anyone, as they probably would think someone was killing me over here, all the hollering I catch myself doing. (I think I get into them a bit) My biggest dream was to go to the Ky Derby one yr., but changed my mind as I came to realize that watching it all on TV, I probably see more this way as the cameras follow the horses all around the track and I don't think in the stands there, you could see it like that. If you can, please don't tell me, I'm satisfied with my decision on this, saving that money for travels

Just went and got another cup of coffee, needed an extra cup this morning, for some reason or other feeling really tired today. Doubt today will accomplish much, rest might be a good idea. Have a book, I could finish hmmm

Sarah, you snuck in on me, think you and I must have had almost the same type of day yesterday, my back really let me know it was there yesterday. Yes, I know you know how big that deck is, it has all the leaves, limbs etc. off and shrubbery around it cleared, BUT it needs a good cleaning as all this rubbish has stained it, that's a later on problem . The whole outside of the house needs cleaning, but needs to get a wee warmer here and I have other more pressing things I think need doing first. Good Luck on all your jobs there, your back deck sounds like its really going to be nice.

Good Morning... coffee gone here and had a fried cake (that is what we used to call them!), I used to make them and send them in my husbands lunch... long long time ago...
The birds are singing here... I saw an egg shell under the deck so someone either stole the little ones or the mom cleaned house...
I was up at 5 no relief... will not go to church today...
I have a loaf of bread rising on the stove... will bake it this afternoon...
Jane open coffee anytime you would like... it is for everyone to do... Sue seems to be the early riser and opens the door a lot... Sue here is a cup of tea as I know you do not drink coffee...

good morning ladies
such a busy day yesterday sorting and tossing and sorting some more. Did a little of it in the house going through drawers and also a little out in the shed. Laundry is done up, stripped the bed and washed the sheets. Now just need to get the stuff put away. We're getting all new uniform shirts next year so all the old ones are piled up ready to go to the textile recycle bin at work. We won't be able to wear any of the old ones so I certainly can't have them taking up any of my valuable space in the closet.
Still waiting for daughter to come get her cat, but guess as long as she gets her before I leave, its all good. The sun is shining nicely and I really need to get out there and enjoy the early morning fresh air. Ya'll have a great day and be safe.

Morning all! It's to be another cloudy day in 70's here in my part of northern Ca. Possible thunder showers if we are lucky. Yesterday I cleaned the large cabinet under my bathroom sink, amazing how stuff hides. Found dozens of mini soap bars and little shampoo and lotion bottles from stays at hotels, and we have not been in a motel in a decade! In a box to donate along with lots in trash. Have to fight my urge to keep when hubby keeps saying, " we might use that in the RV", esp since we have not taken a trip in a while. I mean how much soap does he think we need?! Feels good to no longer have to paw through stuff to find what I want. Much more to go. One step at a time.
Those in Midwest do be careful. Reports on weather are not good.

I enjoy watching the Triple Crown races too, not because I have any particular interest in horse racing (I don't - for many reasons, too numerous to list here) but simply because I love horses. I had horses, and rode almost every day, for about twenty years. Understanding horses, and what they can do, and what it takes to ride them, always makes me appreciate these great athletes - both the horses and the jockeys.

The most amazing Kentucky Derby I ever watched (I, like you, am happy to watch all the happenings on my television) actually the most amazing horse race I ever watched, period was the 2009 Kentucky Derby which was won by Mine That Bird with Calvin Borrell aboard.

I am posting a link to a short "overhead cam" of the video of this race. Everyone: keep in mind that Thoroughbreds are very large horses, and all of them in this race are absolutely running as fast as they possibly can, about 40 mph, especially near the end of the race.

Although the video picks up a few seconds after Mine That Bird begins to make his "move", he had been running dead last in the race up until that point - and the race was nearly over. He just basically blows by all of the other horses, and wins the race by several lengths. If you watch some of the other videos of the race on YouTube, you will notice that the announcer doesn't even mention Mine That Birds name until he has basically won. Even the announcer was shocked - Mine That Bird was running at 50-1 odds. The 2009 Kentucky Derby was one of the biggest upset races in Derby history.

I don't watch live horse racing anymore since I was watching a race once. I can't remember if it was the match race between a filly and a stud, but whatever, one horse fell and had to be euthanized on the track. This was quite a few years ago. Never again have I watched a live horse race. I'm interested in who wins, but not until I learn if the race went well and no one and no horse was hurt.

Just dropped off the grandkids at their parents and returned to the state park I have been staying at to find all the noisy weekenders gone!! Yea, to both situations.

Teenagers were literally whooping and howling (yes, howling) last night until 11:00 pm. Did I forget shrieking? Mostly teenaged girls, so you know what that must have been like. The site I am in is a major shortcut to the shower rooms, so there was a lot of people-traffic cutting through last night as well. Took grandkids to zoo yesterday, and ordered pizza, so they were in bed early and asleep by 9:00 pm. without problems. Everyone got up at 8:00 am, which is not too bad, and I fixed bacon, pancakes and blueberries. Then it was time on the playground and back to parents, who spent the night at a hotel, enjoying being childless briefly.

I can see the camp hosts cleaning up the weekend mess. I imagine they are glad to see them all gone also. Nicer the past week and now when only about 15% of campsites are occupied. I have a whole loop to myself with lots of peace and quiet, which is just how I like it.

I just got back from the campout with the Getawaygals. There were 60 something women attending. We had a great time. I get a gold star for this weekend because I actually used my surge protector. We had thunder and lightening off and on and a little rain. The campground is only about 70 miles from here but it took me 2 hours to get home. I was trying to find a better road to go Northwest from here because that is the way I go the most. I didn't find better. I found worse and had to go through 5 small towns. Some of the roads are so bad I was only going 45.

I missed the race yesterday. I had satellite but no network channels. Years ago I took my Aunts to Evangeline Downs several times when it was in Lafayette. That's too many nervous people for me. When the races were about to start they would rush to their seats or to the rail. As soon as the race was over they would rush to the betting windows.

It is really windy today. It looks like it could rain but the radar shows that the rain is still in Texas. Guess we will get it tonight.

Just discovered that the reason for all the howling, shrieking, and whooping last night was because the theme of this weekend at this state park was "Call Bigfoot." Thanks, whoever thought that one up. Reminds me of the late night treasure hunt that occurred in another state park which involved teenagers running around the campground and shouting to each other until 11:00 pm.

Also, about horse racing. I really have problems with the physically immature two-year-olds that race in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. Having such young horses compete for such high stakes is like sending a 10 year old to compete in major league football for millions of dollars. Dangerous and too much money involved for these poor "pre-adolescent" horses.

What a bright idea to be calling bigfoot. I hope it wasn't one of the rangers that thought that up. When there is nothing on TV I have watched the show Mountain Men about 5 or 6 men running around in the dark with shotguns looking for monsters. It's just a matter of time before they shoot each other or someone shoots one of them. They build these elaborate traps out in the woods. I hope someone makes them fill in the pits they dig.

I feel the same way. I remember a Kentucky Derby race where the same thing happened when a horse actually broke 2 legs and had to be put down right on the track. Luckily I didn't watch it that year. My mom never missed watching a Kentucky Derby, but that year her Alzheimers was so bad she wouldn't have understood it anyways so didn't see it. She would have been devastated to see that if she was lucid enough to watch it.
When I lived in SoCal, I wasn't too far from Del Mar Race Track. They have a terrible record there for having to put injured horses down, almost one per week, sometimes more! It is awful and I would never go there to watch a race. I think they have made some improvements to the track now, but still, one death is one death too many, as far as I am concerned.

Lots of storms rolled thru MN yesterday and today but most stayed just to the west of me. A few tornadoes too. Just had a downpour here about half an hour ago. Most of that will run into the lake which is good. Tomorrow is only supposed to get to around 45 for a high, with high winds and maybe rain. May not be playing golf again...

Long busy day at work today! Whew! My feet hurt!
