Do be careful not to catch anything yourself. Dogs and cats can get pinkeye and it is very catchable, so wash your hands well after treating the eye.

Sheila...Here are some other home remedy suggestions:
http://trupanion.com/blog/2013/02/curin ... -remedies/
I see they suggest camomile tea, but I would try a black tea compress. I have used this on rashes, bug bites, etc., with amazing results. I had a doctor who was into natural remedies and suggested it to me, for the tannins. I recommended hot black tea compresses to a former coworker, for a cyst she had on her lower eyelid. She had it for a long time and it got irritated. After using the compresses off and on, all day, it burst that evening and was completely gone, the next day! She was so happy 8-) It would be nice to avoid the vet bill, if something so simple works.

I agree Linda would be nice to avoid the vet bill if possible...not sure how long I could
get him to let me hold the tea bag on his eyes...he lets me wipe them but...
will have to try it
thanks everyone
