There was a tidbit on news tonight about a group rescuing and moving a group of Manatees. Interesting.

That place is so awesome! It is really neat when a huge manatee swims right under your kayak! Looks very crowded around the springs entrance. We waited awhile and were later allowed to go into the springs, but with the cold weather they have been having down there, there are just too many manatees to let anyone in there. You are not allowed to kayak "over" a resting manatee, and with them packed in there now, that would be impossible.

The manatees that were rescued were on the Atlantic side near Cape Canaveral I think. They got into a culvert and couldn't get out (manatees can't back up). About 16 were rescued and are doing fine.

Love those arrowheads! Very beautiful!

Barb, I think the morning news reported that the final count was 19.....but that all were able to be released back into the wild and had no serious injuries. They also thought that they may have been in the pipe for a couple days before someone heard them.... :?

They look like huge Idaho potatoes with flippers!

Manatees are such sweet, gentle creatures but sure have a tough time in the winter and with boats.
