Sandi, the reality is that no one "likes" the middle of the night phone calls or sitting around ERs for hours. It is what I call the "doing dishes and laundry" part of life. Some things just need to be done and there is no sense in compounding the event by grumbling. They can be times for remembering the important things in life. But maybe those are the philosophical conclusions that come with maturity and experience..... :)

To entice everyone, here's the first pic from the Quartzsite GTG - a beautiful sunset from tonight (If you click on it you should be able to see the right side that may be cut off).

Beautiful picture! I'm so excited about meeting everyone too. Had quite an experience today towing my Honda Element. My worst fear was recognized when my tow bar separated from the hitch. My girlfriend is traveling back to Tucson from Austin with me and could hear a noise then realized it was the car hitting the back of my RV!!!!! OMG! Don't know just exactly what happened but the pin was totally gone! Thank goodness she noticed it quickly. Minor damage (all things considered) to my car and none to my RV. I just unhitched everything and put in the back of the car and off we went with her driving my car. The safety chains absolutely did their job as the tow bar was dragging the ground. When you think of all that could have happened if the vehicle would have totally come off it is frightening!

Since we don't tow, I'm not real educated about this stuff but have heard people have had the pin stolen when they stopped say for lunch in a restaurant or went into store to shop so they don't have eyes on RV for a bit. Makes me wonder. Would that be the pin you mean? I have heard there are ways to prevent so will be watching this carefully for the experts to weigh in. So glad damage was not worse and you are ok. How lucky your friend was along. Is that on something others recommend carrying a spare?

Wow, many new forum friends to meet! And Sharon--our spaghetti squash queen-- will see you this weekend:) On my way to Q in a bit, find a place at Dome Rock. Did someone say the day rate includes dumping? Need to do that, so will pay for a visit on Thurs. Many of you already there! HOORAY :P

About Q...I am glad that so many of us are getting a chance to get together.....even if I am here in FL with a much smaller contingency. :) About the tow bar. When I picked up the car with its new base plate and the Blue Ox System from the trailer vendor I worked with in Cincinnati, he automatically added a lock and key for the pin holding the bar on the hitch. :)
