Brrrr Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Brrrr Thursday

Postby IrishIroamed » Thu Jan 08, 2015 8:06 am

Mornin' Ladies -

Definitely a brrrrr kind of day. Woke up with -8*. Not that I want tornado season coming any time soon, but this is nuts! Poor Zorro, even with his cold weather gear on, he barely runs outside to do his business & right back in.

Not else much happening here, but did notice, because of the sun yesterday, that it's now light outside until 5 PM. Thankful for small wonders at this time of year. Oh - I think I saw a speck of the northern lights the other day. It was pitch black outside & saw some cool pink lines running across the sky for as far as the eye could see. The closer I got to daylight, the quicker they faded. How cool! Saw them only once before around norther IL and that was back in the 70's. And no Kathy, they weren't from the Citgo refinery

Have a good day everyone. Stay warm (pretty much everywhere) and stay safe on the roads.
Cheryl

Good morning Cheryl and all,

Sorry to hear you southern gals have such cold. Looks like maybe you are going to have to go on line and order some winter gear. Can make a big difference I can tell you that.
Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings out for up here. Wind and snow by afternoon. Sounds nasty. Wind direction determines snow for here. Don't favor the predicted SW to NW winds right here. But if they stay west for long, then we get dumped. Did blow out 4 inches yesterday and got all drives etc. done, gassed up can so all set for next blast.

So first item of business is go to vet's office and drop off stool sample for Molly. She has appt, tomorrow morning for next puppy check up. But if weather is bad, may not get there. Usually take samples inearly to give them chance to analyze them and not have to wait so long to see vet that way. Also one run to awally World.

Neighbor's tractor froze up, so will go help thaw if son doesn't get there. May blow her drive with my blower. Shal see what happens. Also have a house check to do for another neighbor, so will be busy morning. Be afternoon before weather is supposed to change anyway.

Sarah, glad tooth is gone. Know how you feel as had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at same time under local. It will get bett. BJ, maybe you should have chiropractor check you out. There are dics and nerves in upper backs that can affect facial area. Might be pinched nerve.

Well, need to get a move on here. Have a nice day all :)

Good morning
Donna, love the FL gingerbread house and glad to know the PT is helping your back.
We have sun this morning but no warmth with it tho we might get from our low of 6 to about 25. No plans to go out today. In fact I woke up being thankful I did not have to go to work or walk Nicky in this cold. Nicky still asleep so haven't even had to open the door yet. He is the only dog I've ever had that did not always get up when I did.
Other than a somewhat restless night I seem to be doing well after the tooth ordeal yesterday. I had expected more of the swelling to go down but not much different and I have a slightly black eye socket now. Would really like a nice cup of hot coffee but have to settle for luke warm this morning - at least I can have my coffee - warm is better than none for sure.
Stay warm

Good Morning all, It is a frosty 0 with -6 windchill this morning. I just try and think, gee it could be worse I could be where Barbie is at. ACK. Glad to hear you are feeling better Donna. Sue you are a brave soul and a good neighbor. Cheryl how wonderful that you saw the northern lights. I can remember my dad calling us outside one time to see them but I only remember him saying what they were and don't recall what they looked like. :( Sarah glad you are better this morning and I hope the swelling goes down soon.
I can't believe it, I broke a tooth this morning at breakfast! It is on the other side but it has a huge filling so probably looking at a cap $$$. Got an appointment for Monday so hoping the other mystery pain is better by then so I can open my mouth. Sue, I want to give the acupuncture a chance first before I do anything else. We are supposed to go out to dinner tonight and I really don't want to go out in this cold at night... DH always wants to go though. It's funny, he enjoys it more than I do and it is my high school class.

Had a chilly night with both front and back furnaces running, but sun is finally out so that should warm things up. Supposed to not be so cold tonight and be warming up a bit for weekend, but then rain is coming. I unhooked my water hose last night and am going to run my fresh water tank dry so I can put more water in it. (Had super-chlorinated it last week and then added some fresh water, but it still has some chlorine in it I want to get rid of.) Will fill it with good clean Silver Spring water before I leave on Tuesday.

Today I am resting up from my adventure yesterday. Shoulders and arms are a bit sore, but nice to have a day for just reading and relaxing.

Love the northern lights! My parents had a cottage at the tip of Michigan's thumb, so I saw them often. I remember one night driving home through the farm country with my son and his then girlfriend. The lights were so bright we stopped the car and all got out to just look. They were blue and green and even orange, and constantly moving. Amazing.

Crazy? Only if you think that I was crazy also when I played for 9 hours straight - perfect temps, a little breeze & the guys from the fire house kept bringing us water :D

It is snowing heavily this morning. I think it is above zero finally and they say we could be in the 30's (above zero!) next week! Yay! I can (kind of) deal with the cold spells as long as they don't last long.

I have a sister in law who has a masters degree in psychology and she is the most negative, cynical person who has no people skills, no compassion and no tact. She thinks she knows everything and everyone else is stupid. Anyways, she went to see my dad yesterday (so he wouldn't feel abandoned by the family, she said) and just ripped into him big time about the house and his attitude and anything else she could throw at him. I talked to him this morning and he was very upset (very lucid, so I know he was telling it accurately) and was embarrassed because she went into this tyraid in front of his roommate. I can't stand being around her for very long because of her attitude either. She sure didn't make him feel any better, that's for sure. I told him to try to ignore what she said. Hope she doesn't go back for awhile!

Gotta do some more of my on line cosmo class for my license, before I go to work later on today. The class is a joke tho. The screen shots only stay up for literally 5 seconds, not nearly enough time to read the whole page! Some pages have such tiny print that I can't read them and no time to get my reading glasses on before "poof" it is on to the next screen shot! They had one lesson which was 27 pages of OSHA documents that I only had 10 minutes to read! Really? Then I spent 15 minutes watching a video about Ebola and seeing people in Africa dying in the streets because there was no more space in the hospitals for them. Very sad, but what that has to do with my job, I have no idea! That 15 minutes could have been used to add 5 or more seconds to each screen shot so we could actually read them and learn something. Who came up with this course?? Hopefully, the quizzes aren't too difficult and I can pass them to get the course certificate!

OK, enough griping! Got quite a bit of cleaning done yesterday so my place is looking much better now. The manager is coming in next week to check smoke detectors so I want it looking really nice in here! Still nothing being done on the studio yet....(crickets chirping).....

Have a good day! :D

Hope everyone survives the cold temps. Stay inside and keep warm. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area we had record highs yesterday. It was 80 on my front deck in the afternoon.

Barbara, catch your Dad in a good moment and have sign a form (nurses should have one) saying she is not allowed to visit. She does not sound good for him and he is YOUR father, not hers so your orders take precedence. Best luck so sorry she adds to the trauma and drama.

Just a short hello... we are lucky it will only be 0 tonight... did get 12 above today... this will soon break...

Was busy getting a gadget set up that came in the mail yesterday... was listening to the nightly news and fell asleep in my chair... go figure... did make goulash for dinner and that was good... had nothing since my oatmeal and blueberries...

Barbie you sure did not need that added to your worry... I hope you can get the paper signed and put her visiting to a stop.

Take care everyone... so sorry for the bitter cold in the south... yes BJ think Spring!

While I agree that her visiting might not be good, I do know you said your brothers are better right now. You might lose that brothers help if you ban her. Just another thing to think about. And maybe her being such a witch will make your father listen more to you. Use it to your advantage, if you can.

Yes, I agree with you. My brother would be furious if I/my dad did something like that right now. I kind of doubt she will be visiting him very often anyways. She usually doesn't ever visit him when he is in transitional care. I have to be careful not to make things more complicated right now.

Our snowstorm didn't amount to much, just a few inches, but the winds are horrendous! It is almost white-out conditions and nasty being out in it. Feels like being sand blasted with the snow blowing so hard against you. There were over 600 crashes in MN today because of the icy roads from blowing snow. We are under a blizzard warning until tomorrow morning. Looking forward to sun and warmer temps next week!
