Getting back on track

Postby HorizonSeeker » Sat Jan 03, 2015 6:05 pm

It's been quite a while since I've posted here on the boards. I have been checking in now and then to see how folks are doing. Trying to keep up with Beth and Liz's travels alone is a daunting task. Although I've been away from the forum for a long time, I am still out here on the road and loving the rv woman life. So much so in fact that I bought myself a new motorhome this summer. As soon as I can remember how to do it I will upload pix.

Good to see that all you ladies are still out having fun and enjoying the rv life. A girlfriend of mine in Nashville just bought a used Road trek and contacted me with questions. I sent her to you girls for info since I know some of you have or have had one and I know nothing about them. She enjoyed a couple of outings before winterizing and is planning some more trips when the weather warms. As for me, well I've been splitting time between volunteering with Fish and Wildlife in New Mexico and working for a national park concessionaire in Nevada and Oklahoma. Also spent some time roaming the road a bit taking time for myself. Spent Christmas 2012 in GA helping my brother and SIL through her bypass surgery. Unfortunately this past September I had to park my rig in New Mexico and fly back to Georgia to help him with her final days and memorial service. Got to return to the refuge and stayed until the end of their Sand Hill Crane Festival. Drove slowly across Texas on the southern route stopping in Aransas to see the whooping cranes. Am now home in Tennessee seeing my grands for the first time in 2 years. My how they've grown. Had planned to leave here by 1/15 but another medical emergency has me staying longer. My SIL had to have emergency bypass (starting to see a theme here? think I should stay away at Christmas) at Vanderbilt. Came home on Christmas Eve but had a stroke early Christmas morning. Back to hospital for 3 days. Now he is slowly moving forward in his healing. I will stay around to help with getting him to rehab for a while so my stepdaughter can get back to work. Isn't it a blessing that this lifestyle allows us to be there for times like this. But I'm looking forward to getting back to work for Fish and Wildlife.

Read over the boards and it looks like most of us had a good holiday time with very little disruption except Barbie. So sorry you're having to go through the health and home issues with your father. Will keep you in my prayers.

Welcome back Vicki. Sorry to hear about the family problems, but nice that you've seen the kids and got a new RV!

Keep us informed of your travels if you feel like it, but lurking is OK to :D

Welcome back Vickie, I've missed you. So sorry about your brothers wife, I know how much you cared for her. Life goes on, no matter what, though. Glad you're here, check in once in a while and let us know how you are!

Glad to know that you have been out and about these past years and able to do some of those things you wanted. It does makes taking time out to help when you are needed easier to do... The wisdom of knowing what is important when. :)

Good to see you posting, Vickie. Have missed you here. And my condolences on the family problems. But it's wonderful that you've been able to be there for everyone.

Beth, I checked on your blog to see how the job in South Dakota went and how you did getting out of South Dakota (the part that worried me). Saw nothing at the time so checked your posts on the forum and realized we just missed each other. Valley of Fires is just down the road from Bosque del Apache refuge. By the time I read that you were in Demming and I was in Roswell heading into south Texas. I did pull up your blog posts last night for Don. He's a big bird hunter and being down during the hunting season has been hard on him. He really enjoyed your pictures and posts about the pheasant farm. He's even hunted there a few years ago.

Vickie, another reason to keep in touch here. You would have known where I was! Teasing you. :-) Too bad we missed each other!

Welcome back, Vickie. You sure have been busy! Congratulations on your new RV. And I know what you mean about your house having wheels so you can travel far to be of help to others when needed. I did that myself last summer when my sister fell and broke her hip in MA while I was in OR. Do post those pictures and keep in touch.
