Pros: Passport America. This campground was highlighted in an e-mail from PAAM during June 2014, and influenced our selection. This campground can accommodate any size or configuration of rig. Both pull through and back in sites are available. New laundry that is nice, but no change machine. Located a few blocks off from I-80 on Winnemucca Blvd/Rim Rock Rd but not much traffic noise.
Cons: This newer campground has growing pains. The sites are all gravel, but I expect that in the desert and is not a problem. I was on the end where there was grass and the sprinklers came on and off all day and night. Really messed up the rig by spotting it. Later it was difficult to get the spots off. Too bad I filled my fresh water tank with this water.
• Roads and sites: The roads in the park are very nice blacktop. To pull up on the road from the site you have a jump up of 2-4 inches in many of the sites. With tire costs in excess of $500 I cringe when I have to do this. This is caused by heavy RV's that compact the gravel into the soil. Just needs some maintenance. Owner/Managers are probably not RVers.
• Water: The water spigots are in a very heavily insulated round 'thing'. Probably one of the most insulated water line and spigots that I have seen in my 6 years of travels. The spigot faces UP. If you have a filter it is nearly impossible to make the connection if you use pressure regulator. Good during inclement weather but a PITA to hook up during non-inclement weather. Easier if spigots were facing down or sideways. I use the flat water hose and it wanted to 'flop over' unless water was present in the hose. (I had to use two water hoses to filter the water.) I normally turn off the water (if I remember) when I leave the site to prevent any accidental rig flooding problems.
• Sewer: The sewer connection is in a concrete surround but it is positioned in a way that it is very very difficult to make the connection. Owner/Managers are probably not RVers. They will have spills with this setup.
• Trash Disposal: Each bunkhouse has trash barrels. The RVers are to walk to the far east end of the park for the trash container. Ain't gonna happen! Just walk over to a bunk house and drop it in the barrel!
• This campground has probably over 100 maybe close to 150 "bunk houses". These serve the miners that work in the area or somewhere. It is relatively close for the workers to catch buses and be transported to and from work. This is common throughout Nevada. Some of these guys come in early morning (actually any time) with their radios blaring. Not good.
• Dog Play area: The dog play area is "ROCK". Come on give me a break. My friend took her dog in, took of his leash, she sat down on the bench and he promptly jumped up on the bench beside her. The Owner/Managers are probably not pet owners/lovers. Dogs do not like rocks hurting their feet!
Comments: The office was not staffed during the weekend we arrived. The site said PA was not available on weekends. However, there were no other folks there when we got there and we did get the PA price for two nights that weekend. They had some free folks too. You know if you don't staff or have someone checking, people pull in late, spend the night and pull out early. There was a phone number that you could call and someone would come to the office and help you. The office was totally blank....I mean empty. It looked as though it had just opened up for occupancy.
Casino next door will give you money to spend if you buy dinner above $xx. Or if it is your birthday month they give you birthday present...more money! However, we were not told this at check in. We just decided to go over eat and ask.
Looking for propane...we were going to gas and propane at the FlyingJ/Pilot. However, they were working on the RV pumps and we could not get into the propane area. We ended up going back to the Other RV park near where we stayed and got propane there. It was easy to pull up to it right off the highway.
I really hope that this is a newly, less than 2 weeks, opened RV park. It is iffy whether or not I'd stay here again. It is better than the local WalMart that was full of 18 wheelers and probably the worst WalMart that I have been to on the road. The campground is clean but the unspoken actions and accommodations are "RVer you are lucky we let you stay here." As I said earlier, I hope it is growing pains.
