PPL Motorhomes

Postby Wanderer2 » Sat Dec 06, 2014 12:12 pm

Hi all- I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with PPL Motor Homes in Houston TX?
They have a large selection of affordable motor homes that they sell on consignment. You have an option of buying as is or they will do a full inspection for $290, which I would do being a newbie. If they find anything wrong, they negotiate with the seller for repairs prior to sale. If seller doesn't want to fix you can refuse to buy or fix it yourself. Opinions?
I am having fun looking but it sure is confusing. But the more I look and read and read reviews, I am learning.
I am getting excited about my new adventure and can't wait.
Rainy day in NC today but not too cold. I can wait for that too:))

I have two friends who have sold their motorhomes through PPL. And Liz here on the forum purchased through them.

One of the seller's had to do some work after the inspection - or renegotiate - but the work was so minor he couldn't believe it was required (cost him less than $50 lol) ... and I'm surprised they could find anything wrong with his rig - as he is meticulous.

That said, PPL works more for the seller than the buyer - but you can not do their inspection and have an independent come in and inspect, then make an offer based on what that person finds, also. I do know they sell a LOT of rv's.

Good luck. And hopefully Liz will see this - maybe you could pm her, also.

Their inspection is a waste of money. Do your own inspection or get a trusted RV mechanic to do it for you. They will check everything off but give you no details in their "report." They tinkered with the generator on my RV and got it running for the wAlk through (a condition of mine). It quit working almost as soon as I left the lot. My Onan dealer discovered they had left off two washers when they tinkered which had dropped into the generator, damaging it beyond repair. Had to buy a new generator...not on my list of expected repairs.

You can get a good deal there, but be aware you buy as is, no guarantees, so know what you are buying. Often sellers are anxious to sell and will accept a low offer, especially if the RV has been on the lot awhile.

I am happy with my RV now, but have spent a lot of $$ with needed repairs and wanted upgrades.

Good advice Liz. I had wondered about them, as I had seen the name a lot of times.

Thank you ladies! Good to know about your experience with them Liz.
I will continue perusing all avenues as I am still in the looky lou stage. Gathering my info and making lists of what I like. There is an RV show in Charlotte in February. That is 3 hours from here so will depend on weather. Hoping to find one closer. I live in the sticks, so everything is further:)
