North Dakota

Anybody out there from or familiar with North Dakota? On my Spring trip I've gotten myself as far as Minot ND but can't find a place to stay in Minot. There are a couple of RV parks but they have bad reviews. I'm coming North on Hwy 83 from Linton, ND. Suggestions??

There is absolutely nothing you want or need to see in North Dakota. Turn that rig around and follow the beautiful Missouri River through South Dakota and end up in the southeastern part of the state. That's a fact Jack! :D

Hopefully trip will end up with a visit to my other daughter in Washington state. Up to No Dakota, west through Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington to Redmond, WA. Then maybe, on west to Olympic peninsula and down 101 to Northern California.

Need to add No Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Washington to my states list.

I was through Minot this past August and stayed at Roughrider Campground. It was ok for an overnight stay. Nothing fancy, sites close together but everything was clean. The oilfield workers have taken up residence in every campground from Minot, ND through to Glasgow, MT.

Fort Peck, MT has a nice COE campground. I have stayed here on past trips.

Hope this helps.

I second this!

Maybe you could just barely skim the corner of the state to officially say you were there... no need to waste precious time there that you will never get back again. You could come up to Minnesota and then cross thru the SE corner of the state to get to South Dakota. Just a thought...

So it is OK if I don't fill in North Dakota on my travel map??

It is the only state other than Alaska that I have not been to west of the Mississippi. Or maybe I should skirt that corner.

I agree with everyone else, skip N Dakota. I would go thru MN, to S Dakota up to the NW and hit Montana. From what I hear the oil workers are everywhere! Towns have changed, more crime, very HIGH costs etc. I talked to many people this past year while working - there is not housing for the new people. So there are tons of MH and RVs wherever they can find a spot to put them.

I have also heard that some of the towns are like the "wild west" with lots of bars, drinking, crime, etc. Not a good place for a single woman with an RV. (Unless you are into that sort of lifestyle! ). I am sure there are nicer areas in the state to visit but not sure where those might be.

Maybe you could look at photos on-line of North Dakota and visit vicariously, so you could check it off that way! LOL! (We won't tell anyone! ;) )

**What's in Linton? You could always backtrack from there to South Dakota and over to Montana. Must be something interesting on that route. I don't think Minot has anything worth seeing, altho I have never been there, but haven't heard anyone else say anything much about it. Check the ND on-line visitors guide and see if they list anything of interest to you in that area. No point going somewhere boring just to say you were there, especially if it is out of the way.

I would probably agree with the others on this one. But be sure to give me a shout when you go through Coeur d'alene, Idaho. I will probably be there when you go through. A BEAUTIFUL place to visit.

OK ladies, I get it. Back to the Atlas and maybe head west sooner. There's a COE park in Linton. I tend to travel from small town city parks to city park or from COE park to COE park. I avoid big cities and interstates whenever I can. I love back roads and small towns.

Sorry Barb, but Minn is in the wrong direction. And oil workers are all over Texas as well. As for going into Canada, I carry a gun so can't go into Canada.

I love South Dakota so didn't realize North Dakota was so boring. I was looking forward to Montana, you know, Big Sky country - my kind of scenery????

There are not many roads going east and west across ND. If you didn't have your heart set on Linton (or if you do, you could backtrack), turn off just north of Selby and head west on 12 and that will take you thru the southwest corner of ND into Montana. Otherwise you could take I-94 west, just north of Linton and you would be in Montana in a couple hours and then get back on the smaller roads from there.
I certainly would not skip Montana! I would love to explore that state!
