Hunting Island (SC) Beach Get Together Oct 20-Nov 3, 2014

I've never been to Jekyll, but I'm booked in site G6, near the others in our group.

Just to clarify, G6 is Jekyll Island, Hunting has 1-200 as numbers.

Anyone else coming to Hunting Island? Check the reservations and come on down, it's an awesome place, there is nothing like it on the entire eastern seaboard.

Also there are two DIFFERENT state parks, one is Hunting Island the other is Huntington Beach. Hunting Island is near Beaufort and an island with an 8 mile unspoiled beach. Huntington Beach is a boardwalk away from the south end of Myrtle Beach.

Arrived yesterday and spent the evening chatting with Miss Mermaid. Found and met Crystal who is here with a t@b rally. How fun! Dell arrived today and we are gathering at Miss Mermaid's for the first potluck.

Slept late, watched a video, road my bicycle on the beach and met campers in two rigs across from me. One is a lady camping alone that I met when putting out my Happy Camper flag. Of course, she was immediately invited to join us and. Just lounging for a few minutes and posting this while Chicken Alfredo bakes for the dinner.

Definitely a very good day for me. Perfect weather, fabulous beach and good people. Thankful Miss Mermaid planned this GTG. I know some only want specific dates to be posted for a GTG, but the flexibilty of coming here when it fit my schedule made it possible for me to be here. Kind of a rolling GTG with people coming at different times, like the Silver Springs GTG.

Will post updates, but must rely on someone else for the photos as I have never had time to figure that out. Someday!

Got carried away and posted the same msg twice. Hazard of posting with my phone, but only option right now.

Miss Mermaid generously hosted the potluck at her huge campsite. She has lots of folding chairs and twinkly white lights on her awning. Pat is taking us shrimping tomorrow and maybe even crabbing. Dell is going to fish. And, more walking and biking on the beach. There are also ranger led activities every day. We certainly have lots to do.

This GTG is going strong. Cynthia & Dell spent several hours on the beach where they saw porpoise playing in the surf and a fisherman catch a small black shark. Pat went fishing with the man camped across from her and came back with a lot of fish and two stingrays. She said that once the skin is peeled back, the stingray has mild, white fish meat. I totally enjoyed the morning at my campsite, sipping coffee and reading.

Our potlucks have been great, but tonight's was our annual shrimp boil. There was a huge bowl of jumbo fresh shrimp with lots of delicious sides -- crisp celery with dip, cucumber black bean salad, marinated mushrooms, celery with dip, squash, asparagus, baked beans, home made potato salad, warm pears cooked with cranberries and black walnuts, and brownie cupcakes with cream cheese icing for dessert. We had real dishes and silverware, and wine. The dinner and weather could not have been better. And, we get to do it again tomorrow.

Wow, the potluck sounds more like great dining !!! The food sounded mouthwatering that's for sure. You gals are doing it up in style !!! Love that beach area, need to do it again one day. You all sure sound like you're making the most of your GTG there.
